As a black woman I agree! Fatherlessness in the black community has been a thing every since 1619 and then it just continued to take hits every decade after 1865 due to Black codes, black massacres in self-sufficient black communities, the Jim Crow & Civil Rights Era, Welfare packages designed to incentivize single mothers and divide homes, Redlining, the war on drugs, unfair policing, school to prison pipelines and the pre-affirmative action days.
This “fatherlessness” has greatly impacted and unjustly inhibited people of color, who are now responsible for explaining why the injustices that created the fatherlessness disparities in their communities are their fault. #inappropriatebehavior

So he’s telling people to change circumstances out of their control, peddle this pro-family/anti-woman conservative viewpoint, and also somehow manage to live in a society devoid of anti-black racism. Got it.
Terming it “race-based preferences” is the issue. AA was a remedy to centuries of exclusion, not just a few decades. It’s also not helping POOR blacks but middle class and wealthy blacks. If you don’t even understand the problem as it stands, you can’t proffer advice on how to fix it.

His words may be harsh, but he is speaking the truth. How can a child without a father, whose mother relies on welfare, compete with a child whose parents work diligently and are willing to invest in his/her education? The affirmative action is not the solution to this problem. Politicians use affirmative action as a cover-up for their own incompetence.

Grape juice and grape drink = There is a difference.
The reason why 🇺🇸 America hold the most inventions and creative dominance. it allows free thinking without the penalty of results.
Alot of Asian culture are result oriented; and they do not color outside of the line; but when sh*t drops in nature like COVID-19 you dont have creative mind to combate emergency situation. you just have book trained people. and BOOKS record the past not the present.
Universities do not want student who cramp for month to get a perfect SAT score. They want an environment where brainstorming is natural: and students with a wide experience outside school hours are better suited.
NBA players know physics more than people at Harvard; because they practice it everyday Ball + height + speed + lift + gravity + object. the know the amount of force requires for the ball to bounce into the net.
American wealth is based of its lion-share of creative people. That's its bread and butter. Universities are institutions that uphold it.
👆and if you are "high IQ" you will understand they are not rejecting you because your scores are too high.
👆and middle class and poor white also need to know THEY already have the "whites" the want at the school. blacks are taking your spot.

The truth is through our history, a good swath of Caucasian's wouldn't have been selected on merit alone and that has been going on for a long time. I have no issue with considering accomplishment while factoring in the hardship of the road traveled. I have no issue in aiding those with promise who lack the funds. Affirmative action is nothing more than having two comparable candidates and not selecting the Caucasian every time. Now, if that isn't how it was utilized it really isn't a systemic concern, but more evidence that humans will mess up just about everything that comes their way.

Why do you assume getting into college on affirmative action, even if you are not qualified, will move you out of poverty? Focusing on pre-college education is a much better way, incl. vocational training, to improve economically.

      How???
Children succeed better in a well balanced family structure. Just look around and see for yourself or ask yourself why generally speaking, immigrants (new comers like africans, indian, chinese, Caribbean, etc..) tend to do better? When I studied this topic I noticed one thing in common. They all value family, hard work and very grateful to be here.

@@LSmoney215 I agree with you that no law will fix this. And I am sure he doesn't mean to fix this problem with a law. We just need to value family, hard work like new immigrants especially Indian, Africans and chinese who major in Healthcare and Tech. Look in our community where single women are praised, gang banging killing our youth, and when you want to pull yourself out by dressing nice and being articulate, our own would shame you. We have a lot of work to do.

There's some data on affirmative action admits who ended up not graduating. I remember in my high school I felt smart but when I got to university, the expectations of professors, the caliber and drive of students were several rungs up. If you're not prepared for that, it can be demoralizing and one can even flunk out.
