With a decent take of area. Kinda tubes. 🫤 I think you may have caught it when it’s small (without hurricane surf). I never brought my longboard there! That’s for one foot surf. Though they may have to break them out. California gets super flat in the summer being so far away from wave sources. Cheers.

Im sure Malibu gets super good on the right swell, but the right swell might not hit, and although Malibu is an amazing wave, I think there is a reasonable chance that they will end up with 3 footers if they hold the Olympics there. Especially since it's the summer Olympics. Personally I think they should remove surfing from the summer Olympics altogether and move it to the winter Olympics. Basically everywhere in the US gets more swell in the winter, other than perhaps the south shore of Oahu.

Ive lived in HB for decades. will surf there tomorrow morning as normal. I have zero issue with what crowd shows up, were pretty used to it. But if its not at Lowers , take it to the Ranch !!

I honestly think "pool surfing" needs to be called its own thing at this point, much in the same way "big wave surfing" and "tow surfing" are called separate things. Therefore, olympic "surfing" should be in the ocean.

Lowers is San Diego County, HB is Orange County... shouldn't it be at a break in LA county ? That being said is there even a world class or semi world class wave in LA in July ?? Let's face it 2nd and 3rd point Malibu are a close out and 1st point is a mush ball so unless it's fully pumping idk

They need to build a Surf Ranch-style wave pool in L.A. (Maybe put it in the desert just east of L.A.) for the surfing tournament in the Olympics. Maybe a baffle system can be created to shorten the time it takes for the water to calm down between waves. Also, there should be categories of surfing competitions (like gymnastics): air comp, carve comp, barrel, and a freestyle/allstyle comp.
PIPE!!!! I know its hosted in LA but the whole country should be considered. Or get permits at multiple places and go wherever it's firing since pipe isn't awesome in June typically. But that should be choice #1
Don’t go to Malibu, that’s my spot, but I can tell you it was pretty flat this summer. Some years Malibu is good for much of the summer and other years it’s just a lake. This summer was more of the latter, they would need a more consistent Summer wave.
Are you being serious? Lowers is the only wave in sd county that would be able to hold it. Next would be Oceanside but it would never be there because Huntington Beach would be better for it
Malibu or Swamis, Encinitas during the (cross your fingers) big winter swell to see some minute long rides. That would be equivalent to watching Bells Beach Australia
It definitely needs to be held at point break with both a right and left. Tahiti is a great wave but clearly favored the goofy footers more. The break needs to be an even playing field to get the best surfers in the finals.

for the amount of money being thrown at the olympics they should put a small fraction of it over 100 million$ similar to the cost they were talking about to refurbish italys bobsled track at 140 million++ into building a next level wavepool. then the sport would benefit and california would get a premium wavepool for the future.at least 12 foot faces and 1000 yard rides minimum . establish a standard for all other country's to invest into for their athletes to practice and really let the sport step into the future where athletes can compete on a standard equipment and develop next level moves in a consistent setting

Being an avid surfer for 40yrs+ I say nowhere. Surfing isn't a good "Olympic" sport. Neither is Cricket, Break Dancing, or 3on3 Basketball. If it stays in the olympics put it in a pool since it is not about sports but about human achievement/athleticism.

Before watching I thought Lowers. After watching, I think wave pool has a good argument. It's also something that could be implemented in any Olympic city in the future.
I think wave is the best option. It's more standardized and whenever a landlocked city hosts the olympics, they can have surfers compete at the nearest wave pool. There are so many around the world with more being built. They could even compete on a stationary wave that doesn't take much space or cost much to construct.
