There is no doubt that the Hawker Tempest V was a real brute of an aeroplane, fast, heavily armed and possessing performance which could better any fighter the Luftwaffe had in service, perhaps with the exception of the Me262 at full speed. Pilots who had experience flying both the Tempest V and its predecessor, the Typhoon, describe the difference as being like night and day - they actually said that it was like comparing a cart horse with a race horse. Although this seems a little harsh, as they flew the aircraft in combat, we should certainly bow to their judgement. Although appearing relatively late in WWII, the Tempest V still takes its place as one of the most effective piston engined fighters of the Second World War and was perhaps the '˜Super Hurricane'™ designer Sydney Camm had always envisaged developing.

I want to build it, I am going to put this on my shopping list
Yep, worth investing in good low-tack masking tape.... Don't worry, I've been at this hobby over fifty years and with every build - EVERY BUILD - I learn something new.
Best from NZ.
Thank you @ianjackson7515 for leaving a comment. Please subscribe if you haven't as yet.. It really helps the channel grow.
It’s been almost two months since I’ve ordered mine. I actually drank some tea whilst watching this no joke.
Also Mos I’d recommend you use Tamiya tape for that masking method next time.
That’s so very British off you lol
Yeah I have a lot of tamiya tape..
@@MOS6510Models even though I’m not British 😉
I love building models, painting is a chore, I don't enjoy it but can't argue with the results so do it anyway.
Weathering?
Pin wash and I'm done pretty much, can't be arsed any further.
I leave that stuff to you guys and just sit and watch instead, more fun.
Totally agree.. I'm not a huge fan of weathering. a little wash with some flory dark and wipe away
There is nothing better than getting and building a kit you have been waiting for or looking for forever 😁. Nice job on a nice kit 👍
Thanks 👍
Cracking outcome. It does look like an 'easy' build but you've done it proud. You've persuaded me to add it to the wishlist.
Go for it!
Freehand camo is always more realistic and easier than masking.............................But nice build.
Yeah true.. buts its 172 so wasnt too bothered matey
You're a brave man, getting those big decals to stick as well as they did! I would have spray painted the stripes because mine would have been bubbles R us. Nice job.
Micro set and a lot of Micro sol.. they were my best friends getting them to lay.. but cartograf decals are just superb
Use a pin with a really fine sharp tip to make tiny holes all over the decals. The holes are invisible but will allow water and air through to avoid bubbles
You did a lovely job on this kit, the decals turned out very nice! I would say that the camo is a bit blurry, but that's the fault of the masking tape not working in the first place! All in all, it looks like a very good kit, and excellently tooled as well. I've got the post-war schemes set in my stash right now, and I look forward to building it! Have a Merry Christmas!
Thanks you..have a boss christmas too
@@MOS6510Models I most certainly did! Plenty of kits were received to replenish my stash :)
Looks good. Must get one of these. A really chunky plane that looks like it means business. Peak of prop driven aircraft. Nice video.
Thanks for watching!
This new airfix tempest looks so much better then the old tempest kit.
The old kit was a heller reboxed by Airfix.. This is a complete new tooling so they have their own Tempest in their collection :)
Nice review, it looks like a lovely model to build.
Weathering is to everyone’s individual taste but if done in scale then normally you won’t see very much.
Much like panel lines!
All the best everyone, Ian
Thanks matey.. i think weathering is personal too
@@MOS6510Models I’d love to see your interpretation 😊👍🏼
@@bugler75 yeah.. ive had a few come round to look at the model and they think a panel line wash then a a few smoke stains on top of the wings will be enough :)
@@MOS6510Models I’ll look forward to the video😊
Nice video to watch but I had to mute it because the horrible music was jarring.
I'm looking forward to building this model as soon as it gets delivered.
i think the music is pretty cool :)
let me know how you get on
@@MOS6510Models Perhaps my comment was too curt. I owe you an apology.
I still don't like the music but all I have to do is mute the audio (which I did do after a few minutes anyway!)
I do tend to view videos such as this at increased speed because what I'm really interested in is the content and information from which I can learn.
So I'm sorry for making a negative comment. I learned a lot from watching this video twice (at x1.75 speed). Cheers!
@@gerrycoogan6544 no worries fella.. I’m more chuffed I’m not the only one who speeds up videos!! I also do it with Audible books too!!
Oh be a mate and subscribe please.. it really helps the channel
When using masking tape I'd recommend a light coat of the base colour first before the second colour. Any paint bleed will blend in and it will seal the edge of the tapento prevent any more bleeding.
You should also consider trying AK camoflage elastic masking pufty. It should work much better than tape.
Sadly i wont buy AK products because they have very little morals.. but I have heard Ammo by Mig have something similar i might try out.. I do like freehand too
Looks bloody marvellous...sign me up
Link to buy one in description :)
You use the expensive Tamiya tape to hold parts together and throw the cheap stuff in the bin? You need to try some of the masking putty out for you camo schemes mate.
To be fair its easier to use the tamyia tape from the dispenser and one handed.. also the masking tape must of been a bad one as ive used a different one from the pack of 5 and its worked great..
@@MOS6510Models In all the years ive modeled i haven't ever used tape or any sort of pegs or clamps. I just go round the fuz with thin cement. I've never had a problem.
I was also thinking that the wheels looked a little skinny? And the canopy looks a little squashed? Hope I'm wrong because i was planning on getting this.
Have a good day great model
Thanks, you too!
I like your solution on masking for the camouflage.
it does work but use a good masking tape
@@MOS6510Models Tamiya tape works for me.
Great build Mos , have to put it on my next model shopping list. Hope you have a great week. Until the next video, take care.
Thanks, you too!
I used to make model kits all of the time. I was thinking of taking it up again. If I do this will be the kit I shall buy. Its an awesome fighter aircraft and its a great kit from airfix. Brilliant video very imformitive and very well made. Keep up the good work... B. Turner
Worth buying my friend
Smashing build of a very nice-looking little kit. Mine is waiting in the wings...
It is a fantastic kit and thoroughly enjoyed building it..

Cracking job! I have one to make when time allows (it won't sit around long) but I'm not a fan of perfect invasion stripes. I like them to look a little bit wobbly and off white, like they'd just been applied with a surplus mop...
Apparently ground staff had very little notice to apply invasion stripes and they were initially done with anything that came to hand - brooms, mops etc..
I just wanted to use the decals.. i thought they went down quite well
Nice build video. I've been looking to get this as built the Airfix typhoon before, That was still to date my most enjoyable build. This goes together the same way by the looks of it. Like others have said here, I prefer to mask and spray the stripes after trying decals. If you like this youll love the 1:48 Sea Fury. Btw ive just subscribed, Happy modelling, I may just get back to my stash now
Thank you for the sub, I do have the sea fury as i did a review on it ua-cam.com/video/9PGrsXNJHEc/v-deo.html. some day I will build it :)
Looks like a great little kit. Those D-Day stripes decals did not look fun to apply, but look brilliant
It was, they went down well too.. no real issues
Well I do not fully agree, the fuselage green stripe drove me crazy and the yellow stripes that you need to apply before the b&w ones just never fit, whatever the way, even upside down. Strange design, and the outcome is quite poor. I've removed them and I'll paint them now and will see later on for the big stripes. Maybe I was wrong somewhere...
Nice work mate! 👍✈️🇳🇿
Thanks a lot.. it was a fabulous build

A superb job. Awesome. What the kit deserves
Thanks 👍
Use Tamaya masking tape and not normal masking tape. The former prevents bleeding and the edges are cleaner
Yeah but the tape i use is what car sprayers use.. been using it for years, and its cheaper than tamiya tape lol
Brilliant build and video, thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it

Brilliant music yeah!
Another brilliant build. Which were the three main colours did you use? Eg the two camouflage colours on top and the grey underneath? The Airfix site suggests many colours to buy for this model. Thanks!
Oh.. i cant remeber now.. it was the scheme with the invasion stripes
To avoid those fails, stick the tape to your skin a couple of times before apply it
Good shout.. but this was the first time this has happened
@@MOS6510Models Try using yelllow Frog tape, oh and I second what said above, always did this when drawing paper or film was stuck to a drawing board
Great stuff. It's on my shopping list 🙂Nice vid fella.

Very cool video Mos. Great bit of kit! I enjoyed watching.
Glad you enjoyed it
When i use tape i soak it off with a wet sponge to avoid stripping, its a bit of a faff but ive had every type of tape strip paint before
Amazing job on that kit! :D
Thanks matey.. Apart from the strip and repaint, it was thoroughly enjoyable
Nicely
Thanks
Great build mate, I’m building it too! I made the Revell 1:32 one. Love a tempest!
just checking but aren’t the sky and yellow band’s supposed to go on first, Before the invasion stripes?
I’m not a fan of layering decals under the stripes.. You can easily trim them to size so they don’t need to be layered.. like all things in instruction.. they are a guide
got one in the stash. have to knock it up the build schedule
Let me know how you get on matey
Just started it and loving it so far . What a well designed kit
Bad luck on the masking tape issue - but you made a great kit there old boy!!
things are sent to try us
Well done!
thank you
Why not paint the black and white strips?
i wanted to use the decals to see how well they work.. and they went down really well
@@MOS6510Models well your work was excellent on those big decals.
Excellent 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Great build, i bought this kit a week ago and plan to build it soon.
Can i ask what paints you used?
Vallejo equivalent for this build but humbrol primer.. I rate that primer :) Youll love the build.. its fantastic!! Thank you @tonyatwell642 for leaving a comment. Please subscribe if you haven't as yet.. It really helps the channel grow.
Would masking sheet work better than tape for camo pattern?
@@tonyatwell642 you could do.. i used free hand in the end..
Unfortunately my free hand not so great lol
@@tonyatwell642 use blue tack worms and fill the rest with masking tape matey
I don’t understand how the paint was a fail
There was a lot of bleed under the masking. Burnishing down the edges can help prevent that.
@@Reactordrone Or even blu tak sausages for a finer feather effect
yes the masking tape went bad.. i've used a lot of it as car sprayers use it.. anyways, i do like freehand spraying
i quit this hobby yesturday i was trying to build the acadamy a10a operation iraqi freedom
and the airfix p51 d mustang and i hated it so i quit the hobby ps im a begginer.
