I'm surprised you didn't get such a gun before! In Russia, this is the most common and cheapest type of shotguns for hunting and sports. We have 2 factories that produce AK-type shotguns. The first factory that produces real AK, they make shotguns called Saiga. The second factory that produces the РПК (Kalashnikov light machine gun) and they produce shotguns called Вепрь (Vepr) in english it is Boar. Both of these shotguns look about the same. But the Vepr is more reliable. I do not know if they are imported to the USA. If yes, then look for a Vepr. It has a bolt delay and there are no problems with loading a full magazine when the bolt is closed. I go goose hunting with this shotgun. It works great, the rate of fire is high, the reliability of AK and very fast reloading compared to other semi-automatic shotguns!

Low-key, Sportsmans Guide is letting Scott do the durability R&D, and now look; 1 table lasted the whole video, like never before! Win-Win relationship!
I've never fired an AK-47 of any variety, but my educated guess about why you couldn't seat the mag with the bolt closed was because the top round of 12 gauge protrudes from the top of the mag much more than an ordinary round of 7.62x39mm would. It's just the nature of a design that was originally built around a medium sized rifle round will need a different manual of arms for a shotgun round.
Saiga 12 models typically have a bolt hold open near the trigger guard, it's a little button you press with your trigger finger that will lock the bolt when you charge it. manual of arms for a reload is pre rack the bolt with the left hand underneath, bolt then locks rear, you then easily insert the mag, and underhand release the bolt. With practice you can do very fast reloads, just 1 extra step compared to a AK rifle reload with the bolt hold open.
@@Gunners_Mate_Guns You were right on with your original assumption too. That's exactly what happens. The receiver dimensions are basically the same as a standard AK but with a larger bolt carrier group. The shells in the magazine push against that carrier. Actually if you download the mag by 1 you can also insert them fairly easily without pre locking the bolt as the shells will push down into the magazine itself, but it does take a bit of a push. This is also why if anyone uses a Saiga type shotgun for home defense you shouldn't keep a mag in the gun without the bolt held open, because over weeks/months it's possible to deform the shells that are pushing against that carrier which could potentially cause feeding or ejection issues. So I personally just keep mine loaded but with the bolt locked open. Then all you would need to do is give it a 1/2 inch pull rearward and the bolt will fly forward, much like releasing a locked open pistol slide.
@@-Zevin- Your technical firsthand details of the Saiga are really appreciated. I may not get it right every time with my educated guesses, but it's nice to know that this one was on the mark. The extra information about the possible deformation of the shot shells is something that all Saiga owners would do well to heed. Ditto for the idea of using the bold hold-open if intending to keep it loaded for home defense use. The Saiga may not be the most nimble means for defense, but woe unto anyone you're ever forced to confront with it!

Scott, there’s a notch for the charging handle within the safety so you can hold it back with the safety. After you reload, drop the safety and it will chamber the first shel. Similar to a Yuko AK. I want to get a Kalashnikov 12 gauge after this video lol. My AK needs a big brother…
Im gonna have to say scott has made it into the number one spot for most enjoyable youtubers to watch. Always been a top 3 but his content is simply enjoyable to watch.
Funfact, the Saiga-12 Shotgun was the last firearm designed directly by Kalashnikov himself. They are very robust and reliable firearms, and typically much more reliable than the AR style 12 gauge shotguns on the market. Reloading magazines can be a bit tricky on the Saiga types with a AK style "rock and lock" magazine, due to the shells pushing up against the bolt carrier group. It actually is possible with some practice to force the magazine upwards at a angle and it will lock in just fine, this causes the shells to push down into the magazine. Alternatively many Saiga-12 models and their Chinese clones have a bolt hold open button on the top of the trigger guard. On empty you simply depress this button with your trigger finger, and charge the bolt back underneath the gun, or over top of the gun with your off hand, this locks the bolt rearward. Then a magazine is easily inserted. Then simply pull the bolt back another half a inch and release for it to fly forward chambering the first round. With practice you can easily and quickly reload the shotgun every time. It takes maybe 1 second more than a typical AK reload.
The mag problem comes from the shear mass of the 12 gauge shell sticking up instead of the usual 7.62’s. My saiga has a bolt hold open button that makes for a lot easier loading it helps a ton! I loved this video btw really showed the force of this gun and how much fun they can be!

Scott i'ma riot. Where's mah boi tactical T-rex
Why is there so much spam replies now they're evolving
Tac Rex
But bigger! I mean brandon is working on the ak-50 n that's currently at prototype 3. Unless it's a hand held ma dues you cant get bigger!
As long as I live and breathe, Scott's laugh will be one of my favorite things in existence
4:53 Hey Scott you have a catch phrase for watermelons and nacho cheese but not gravy. How about “No, Not the Gravy” like when Patrick Stewart said it to Mel Gibson on Conspiracy Theory.
Scott is really living every guy's dream
This was the most explosive episode in a long time. I loved every second of it. I have got to get myself one of those!
Of course, it didn't jam, it's a Kalashnikov. I'm sure it has excellent reliability like all the AK variants. Do a stress test video to prove it.
Early Saiga-12 shotguns had a lot of reliability/cycling problems with some types of ammo. Over the times, it seems that they fixed it with the KS-12.
ME: "Scott, how do you like your beans?"
Scott: "BLASTED!"
With high brass
scott the whole time: "just one more clip" but he doesn't stop. this looks like a blast to shoot lol! arnold schwarzenegger would be very proud
I love how u give food to the local animals of your shooting range, they must be so appreciated for you shooting all that food :)
Ya gotta use the "bolt hold open" notch on the safety selector! Your vids are are the best, and I'm glad you're healing up good!
It might be like the sks after taking off the attached mag so you can use ak mags, got to stick your finger in the bottom and slid the bolt retainer up to hold open the bolt then put the mag in pull bolt back one cm let go to chamber the first shell.
im just here for scotts laugh now, its almost like hearing a child laugh..it just makes your day
Watching Scott ride the lightning in reverse is pretty hilarious.
I have a kalishnikov12gauge, that exact one too, and yeah, dumping mags is tricky at first when ya put loaded mags back in. After that youre G2G!
Love it brotha, came back stronger than ever! Not even MATT could dump a shotshell mag consecutively like that! 💪🏽
Seriously, I can’t remember what video it was right now possibly on Matt’s, but I mean didn’t or hadn’t your arch nemesis ak-guy already uprooted! Oh, and yes, DONUT! Throwing love at you as well grand thumb.
Come on; Gun Channels community, let’s get Scott to the great state.
Shout out to EDWIN as well in Cali…
Yal keep the work up fellas!
Damn, we got a DemoRanch opposite here!
Scott with a bee on his knee: Flicks it off
Me with a bee on my knee: Screams so loud that the neighbours thought I was getting kidnapped
Lol
3:08 is just hilarious to me X,D the silence after several *BANG BANG BANG BANG* and transitions into the little motor hum with him casually standing aiming X,D
Love that nothing goes to waste, and you’re doing good for the environment on the self biodegradable range! Keeping the raccoons, squirrels, possums, groundhogs fat, and the bees pollinating with the all yummy goodness you blast out there. Amongst what else you have roaming the Kentucky range,
Hurry up and move to TEJAS! 😎
Need to do an AK vs Glock torture test. See which is the ultimate in reliability, and it might just piss off the AK guy.
"Will it AK", already done by Brandon.
A good projectile launcher if ever I saw one. Thanks Mr Scott
I picked up my KS-12T a few months ago in Black/Tan. So far it has been great. The Magazines have to be inserted with the bolt open (unless you really force them) just like on a Saiga 12. However, unlike my Saiga 12 - the KS12T needed no work to make it reliable with basically anything I could feed it. I also like that the KS12s are Made in the USA. Something cool about an actual Kalashnikov rifle being made in the US.
love the table throw from out of frame! So good. Stores all out of nacho cheese? Must be a supply chain thing. Let's go brandon!
Your drive by footage had me cracking up! Scott Sr. just cruising by!🤣🤣🤣
3:37 Woah, dude! Is he even bigger than you?! LOOK AT THAT ARM!
Hold the rifle level and straight when feeding in a magazine . Works every time .. That's actually the number one indicator of an AK rookie when you point the rifle up and try to feed in magazine .
. lol
Man, this rifle is fun as hell. I love the Carnage , watching the explosions in reverse was fun. I hope you bring this one back just for kicks at destroying stuff! Yeah that mag bolt open deal is weird, definitely not practical for swapping mags.
Maaaan, was that a fired up intro. Nice to see you in this mood, Scott
Normal person: buys table to put things on
Scott: *begins to load 50 cal*
Scotty after those horrific injuries , you come back like nothing happened well you are definitely Sparta solder material
I love that every time you shoot stuff and it blows up, you respond like a 12 year old seeing it for the first time!
Scott: I’m surprised to see that the table made it through the whole video.
Action: Racks another set of shotgun-shells then he finishes off the table.
I love how you incorporated your sportsmans guide mention :)
Can you imagine holidays at Scott's house? "Scott, can open up the beans?" Scott: "No problemo." Chik chik....BOOM.
Welp, that range is off limits for the next week!! The ants, and honey bees and yellow jackets, and wasps THANKs you!!
Scott when he sees a table:
Sportsman’s guider, no survivor
Showing love from 🏴 one day I will go to American keep up the videos man let’s goo!
Oi you got a loicense to look at that there gun bruv?
Hope you can get here soon. Lots of fun to be had here but lots of world leaders are keen to shut down travel.
@@levergatnation8959 haha
@@majordoubletap2027 one of the best reasons to have a vacation outside of blighty 🤣 in the 90's (94-99) I'd get sent to stay with an uncle in Florida and my aunt and my cousins were always surprised when I turned down the chance to go to theme parks, I preferred going fishing or hunting instead lol spent many days lazing around the swamp beside a lake shooting game and catching catfish, try doing that in England and we'd get a visit from the armed response team of the local police and probably end up on the news 🤣
love how the table just gets it every time.
Scott really cares about sending a good fearless table off properly and thats with a bang from the weapon of the day.
That’s pretty much a Saiga-12 or VEPR-12, but it looks more AK-like
Saiga like, but definitely not Vepr 12 like
I agree...it should load with bolt forward
"I was really surprised that this table made it through our testing!"
*Glances at table*
"So then I started blasting!"
What do you mean unique? In Russia most of AK's sold to civilians are in 12 gauge. We have 7.62x39 as well, but you have to own a shotgun for 3 years before you could buy it( Glad to see you fully recovered, man!
I have that Kalashnikov 12gauge and i. Love it too. And yes, the bolt must be pulled back w safety on to insert freshly loaded magz.
I bet you 100 bucks that raccoons LOVE this guys field. They hear gun shots, they know its supper time.
Ants too. And yellow jackets.
Literally saw the yellow jackets just after I typed that. NOPE
Inserting the mag just takes practice. You've got to imagine that you're pressing the top shell further into the mag while in the mag well before rocking it in.
That factory mag has got to be the most finicky mag I have ever used in my life. Sometimes I can get it to go just fine on a closed bolt. Other times it's near impossible.
There's a company that makes saiga style mags that allow you to load smoothly on a closed bolt.
3:42 your reaction to when you saw the wasp wanting to be the star was funny.
I can't believe I'm finding out about Kentucky customs now this is the greatest thing ever
You're a badass, Scott! Hope you're doing well, brother! 🙏🎸
I see you learned the same trick I did. It is almost impossible to put a loaded mag in. So it is easier to pull the bolt back and put mag in. I actually use the bolt catch on the safety lever to hold the bolt back.
God: I have provided my children with a plant that they will selectively cultivate into a large, delicious, nutritious fruit that can feed man and animal alike.
Scott: IT’S WAATTERRMMEELLONN TIIIMMMEE!!!
What an awesome weapon. Destroys everything it hits. Love the ketchup shot. That’s what a head would look like.
