I am a 16 year resident of central Florida after having lived in Illinois for 30 years. No more freezing my ass off during the winters. No more shoveling snow and scraping the ice off my windshield. No more pot hole filled roads. No more state income tax. No more excessive property taxes. Happiness is Illinois in your rear view mirror! Moving to central Florida was one of the best things I ever did!

HOA's should be illegal. No person has the right to dictate how you should live in your own home like HOA's do. You are right about the housing costs going up literally on a monthly basis. I've been following pricing in some area's that I was considering to move to but not anymore.

    • @kristopherdetar4346

Granted some HOA’s are like organized crime but when you have no rules, your neighbors end up either not taking care of their property or they have 15 wrecked cars packed into their back yard, or they have 5 dogs barking 24/7, etc, etc.

I live next to a house where owners have big dogs in their backyard. They bark when people got closed to the house, so I felt like we got extra security, most the time when I'm in the house and outside in the backyard I don' t notice they bark. We haven't had any crimes in the 14 years we have lived here. Everyone take care of their houses just fine. Not even one wrecked car in the whole neighborhood.

That last bit about the littering... oh yeah, I can relate. I work as a lot attendant at the local Home Depot here in Delray Beach, FL. You know... the guy that pushes the carts around? You wouldn't believe the crap people leave in the carts. Gloves, masks, sanitary wipes, diapers, plastic bags, beer bottles and empty beverage cans, cardboard boxes, dead fluorescent bulbs, ceiling fans, planks of wood and wooden pallets. You name it, I've probably found it. And it happens EVERY day of work.
Someone even left a broken water heater in the lot once. It was over six feet tall. I had to haul the damn thing away by myself. People are pigs with no consideration of others.
That said, I still saw way worse litter on the side of the roads in Colorado Springs.

We lived in Sebastion near Melbourne, but rarely if ever put the top down on our convertible, too hot and buggy. While I do like some sun, I rarely went to the beach or played any golf. The heat and humidity took its toll. We controlled the bugs, at least inside the house, by having an exterminator come once a month or so. But not so much outside. The traffic isn't awful, still but pretty heavy. We eventually moved to a more temperate climate. I suggest that if you are considering a move there plan for an extended stay during July and August. That will give you a better idea what it is really like living here. There is a big difference between vacationing in Florida for a week in March and living here all year long.

St. Augustine grass is soft and desirable. Bermuda grass is alike a little spike. Many builders use the latter grass because it doesn't grow as fast as St. Augustine grass. One thing to remember about St. Augustine grass is, adjust your lawn mower to 4". Why? Because it's beautiful, it keeps out weeds. And if your home is in a subdivision that has strict rules about dog fecal matter; you can play in and on the grass. Nothing compares to St. Augustine grass and remember to adjust the lawnmower to 4".
The heat and humidity are overwhelming. Many people just stick it out and deal with the stickiness. Most women in Florida have straight hair whether long or short. Why? The humidity will destroy a fancy hairdo. My hair is curly but I blow it straight because it's a fact: humidity is a reality. Besides all this, straight hair is more manageable at the ocean and the pool.
I'd like to live where there are 4 seasons and no stairs. You see, I'm 72 and have arthritis. I do get out and walk my chihuahua, Angel but the long walks aren't as frequent as I'd like. North Florida around Tallahassee would give me more of what I'm looking for or Tennessee. Please pray God will move me to a less hot and humid area where I can see the leaves change every year and light snow around Christmas and Easter. Well, this has been way too long. Thank you for reaching this far. God bless all who read my opinion.

We live in Manatee county, been here for 38yrs I'm from SW Pennsylvania & my husband is from Oceanside NY. When we came here in 85 it was absolute paradise 🥰 was cheap to live here so there was no need to make 6figures, winters were cold but not consistently inconvenient like they are up north, nature was plentiful, so was work & fresh farmers markets were on every corner; population was 95,000. Seemed to have all the pluses & none of the negatives right🤷‍♀️ Well today it's a nightmare... We actually live in a wonderful centrally located area where houses are btwn 250-450, 5miles from the Gulf beaches and it's an absolute nightmare. It's seriously like being back in NYC for a visit but ALL THE TIME! Getting anyplace takes forever, tourists & snowbirds DO NOT drive w/ local traffic as they should so betwn the accidents, constant road work & construction it takes an hour to make a 10min trip. I could go on for hours but for scale & growth chew on this: we now have over 494,000 permanent residents AND all of the tourists in the spring & summer as well as all the snowbirds all fall & winter... Not how we planned on living in our 50's😒😐 but we think it's time WE become snowbirds & buy a vacation home in the great smokey mountains 💯👌
Everyone needs peace, it's so underrated & as a local you just don't get it anymore w/o the frustration of knowing "you're happy place" is now filthy, overpopulated & essentially ruined... -we'll find peace in the mountains; those aren't destroyed just yet✌️

There are also so many more things to do. What I noticed here that I have never noticed before, is that the housing market even back when I moved here was very competitive. That was just for renting. We contacted multiple places to view and they were gone within a day. I've been noticing that due to the housing market being in high demand, now, it's not only difficult to buy, but also rent. So many people are moving here that it is very difficult to find a place to live. This also means traffic keeps getting worse too.

There are apartment complexes being built on marshy lands now. Also there is a new area south of Tampa off of Highway 301, that wiped out an orange grove to put up McMansion’s and the only road to get in and out of is a two lane road (one way each way) that can’t be widened for more traffic. The road was busy to begin with, now it will be hell. And yes it’s an HOA. If I wanted to live in an HOA type place, I would marry someone who was still active duty and live on base. It’s actually not as bad as some HOA’s.

However, the three things that continue to irritate me about Florida: 1. Traffic. It's heavy, everywhere and split between the 10mph under the speed limit crowd and the 20mph over the speed limit crowd. 2. Glacial pace of road construction. Why does it take three times as long to build a road in Florida? My gosh, projects that would be done in one summer season up north take three years here. 3. Horrible customer service. Everything from restaurants to the doctor's office is run by people who don't seem to care about their customers.

Diappointed that the job situation was not brought up in this video.Too expensive to live in Florida. 2 jobs are needed to make sure all your monthly expenses are paid. Florida is a right to work state. Any employer can terminate your employment for any reason andwithout a good reason and you as the employee have no rights or recourse. There's no representation for the employee in situations where you lose your job unjustly.

Racism. If you are a person of color, there are many places in Florida where you will feel unwelcomed.
Mold everywhere and the constant need for pressure washing.
Streets that have multiple names. It can be confusing. Orange Blossom Trail aka OBT aka 441. And...

Most people think of racism as Whites hating Blacks, but, in Florida you also have Cubans who also don't like Blacks or even other Latinos/Hispanics. You have African American Blacks who don't like Caribbean Blacks like Haitians or Jamaicans. Hell, there's even White on White racism here with the more affluent Whites hating on the so-called trailer park Whites. In 2021, 52 hate groups were tracked in Florida. And now Gov DeSantis is trying to stop ethnic studies in Florida schools at a time when we need to learn about other cultures and American history whether it makes us uncomfortable or not.

But when I got married a few years later my husband got a job that he couldn’t refuse and in 1999 we left Florida and we haven’t been back to live since. It is too dang hot there for me. Thanks for the reminder of why I left Florida in 2016 after 22 years. Moved back to Michigan and even though we don't have a DeSantis, I am happy to have the unsalted lakes rivers and forests. Bobby Hicks had a lot to say about Florida in his music. "I'm Florida" defines his love of his state.

As a foreigner having spent 7 years on and off in Florida on vacation, I might add the following things that bothered me when I was there. These are my opinions only and please nobody take offence at them. Just observations which may or may not be true depending upon the person viewing them.
Firstly, I find it strange that everything has to be "fun" to do or it gets short shift from people. To me this is an attitude that reflects a lack of maturity, but who knows. Secondly, virtually without fail, everyone who I have met and befriended seems to follow the mantra of being a friend only "based on what can you do for me today". This is totally shallow and extremely hurtful but that's the way I always felt when dealing with "friends" I made in Florida. Lastly I do not understand the US lack of affordable medical care. Without doubt, the US has one of the best health care systems in the world (or maybe even the best) but no one can afford to use it !! I had to buy expensive additional health care coverage when in Florida or risk a visit to a local hospital bankrupting me !! This attitude of not wanting to pay for someone else's problems (through government sponsored health care) is indicative of a selfish social society more attuned to every man for himself.
Ok, so shoot me down as you wish; however, these are just my reflections on living in Florida. Otherwise, a great place to vacation but living there....I don't think so.

I want to write my opinion on Florida.
Yes it's beautiful, and were I live I'm so lucky and grateful with the breath taking beaches I'm surrounded. But unfortunately I'm very disappointed with everything else that comes attached....( it's the people and they are extremely slow, in their ways of thinking).I find them to be dishonest. And not at all business oriented. Another thing I find very disturbing is, that these old people ,CAN NOT DRIVE anymore. And still they drive down the road without seeing. They have cost so many accidents and they are still driving. That's ridiculous. In beautiful department stores, I get so depressed when I see the woman behind the register is so old, she can't remember.
I hate the way they plaster that fake smile on their faces, when you can see before hand, that they are racists and they don't like other cultures, then themselves. I'm basically tired that we live in this kind of atmosphere.
People in Florida are not nice, according to what I have seen these past 3 years.
From going to the supermarket, or department store, I'm so shocked with their stupidity. It's like being in the twilight zone.
Florida is only good for a two week stay.
Anyone that moves here from another state will know what I'm talking about.
    GOOD LUCK🙏

I love both of your videos... you are soooooooo right on it all. I have been coming back and forth from CA to FL because my daughters went to collage here and now work at the collage. I retired last year knowing exactly what you talked about in both videos. I am happy to be here only I am 10 min from Atmore and do not have to deal with the Id....s that want to be by the water... I am frustrated with the ding dongs that want to stair at their cell phoned and sit through a green light more than anything you talked about, maybe you could add that to your next Negative 10 Things.

Florida water is so contaminated people die from swimming in it. Two years ago, I was hospitalized for two weeks because of antibiotic resistant, flesh eating bacteria that, like red tide, grows out of control because of fertilizer and pesticide runoff from huge corporate farms in the center of the state. State water management dumps this water to the rivers and coast. I was infected swimming in the ocean near Miami Beach. Three other people died of this in the same hospital during just the two weeks i was in hospital. A lot of people don't know where they were infected because they go home from vacation before symptoms begin.
