- What is the difference between theoretical linguistics and applied linguistics? And what is ‘linguistics applied’ and how is it different from applied linguistics? The answer is ‘it’s complicated’, but I’ll try to provide you with a short overview in this video.

Welcome to Morocco if possible...
Associating or linking Applied Linguistics with language teaching and learning is now obsolete. Applied Linguistics is no longer a branch of linguistics and hasn't been for a long time. Historically, yes it was concerned with language teaching and learning, but today AL is a multidisciplinary approach to research, any kind of research. It doesn't have to be concerned with language teaching and learning. Today AL is a stand alone field of study unconnected with linguistics. Some researchers chose to research areas connected with linguistics (or apply linguistic knowledge to a research area) and at other times they are forced to by the faculty hosting their PhD candidacy. The later is a rude way of controlling a candidate's research topics. The sooner the field of linguistics stops viewing AL as a branch or sub-branch of linguistics, the better things will be for researchers.
Thanks domuch for your clarification between Theoretical and applied linguistic.
But I'd like to study my MA in UK in applied linguistic.
Could you please tell me which university is better in UK? And would it be easy to find a job in UK?
Thanks a lot for the video. It's seems that I didn't get the difference between applied linguistics and linguistics applied, could you please give us more details about this topic and if it is possible I want a good reference about applied linguistics and linguistics.
Really appreciate your help.
Thanks for your comment! Actually, there is no difference. As I said in the video, it is already difficult to separate what is linguistics from what is applied linguistics, so in the past some scholars proposed the use of the term 'linguistics applied' as a sort of in-between field, but that didn't catch on. I just included it in the video because the term still pops up here and there sometimes. If you are new to linguistics, check some introductory books like 'Contemporary Linguistics: An Introduction' by O'Grady et al., I think there is a recent 3rd edition. Check the description box for introductory books about applied linguistics, they are a bit old though, check for recent editions or newer books to have an idea of recent research and discussions in the field.
Thanks a lot for your reply. I really appreciate it.

If I have an ESP in theoretical linguistics. what topics I can search about?
It is kind of confusing.
Sorry, but I'm not sure what you mean by 'ESP in theoretical linguistics.' It sounds like you're talking about a type of degree, but I'm not familiar with it. I know ESP as English for Specific Purposes. You can always contact universities or other institutions that offer the course you're interested in and ask for more details and a syllabus.
what is the importance of applied linguistics In your life so far?
Absolutely no benefit
Brilliant!
Keep it up!
