  • This is a video recap of our “Refinements” class on April 11, 2024 at 2155 Ballroom and Events. Instructors are myself, Keerigan Rudd, and Judy Megaffin.
In this class, we focused on finding connection in closed position through a starter step and the idea of “directional intent”. We added styling options to our right side pass and sugar push. Remember, that styling can be done with or without your partner joining you, so don’t hold back! Finally we taught the sweetheart fold, discussing how follows should aim to wrap into their own arm and pull the left side of the body back to get deeper in that connection. Finally, we added the drape to the end of the two-handed turn.

Maybe it would be a bit advanced for a "fundamentals" class, but it would be extremely helpful to have a class that focuses on catching phrase changes and ends of 8 counts in music with the use of fundamental WCS moves like the Sugar push, sugar tuck, whip and/or outside catch. For example, practicing through simple ways to catch the "moment" in a song when I'm halfway through whip and the phrase change is happening on the next beat would be incredibly helpful. Or even how I might catch the beat if were on the back half of the sugar push and wanting to land with the music when I hadn't planned for it initially. I feel that learning and getting used to doing this with the simple moves while I'm still on the newer end of the dance would be incredibly helpful and to have in the back of my mind while I'm trying to develop in other ways as well; I do understand that on the more advanced level, we will be expected to plan moves to do this a bit farther in advance than a beat or two of course. Thanks again for sharing these videos online, they're incredibly helpful.

Keerigan, I'm so excited to see you doing something a little more beginner. There are still things you are saying I don't quite understand. Any chance you can label the video with things like... "the sugar start begins here..." or this is called a...". You've had about 37k people join your channel in the last month... I'm guessing most are like me and know nothing about wcs...but we really want to learn. If you recapped just one step (for beginners only) at the end of each lesson, not only would we all watch to the end of that video, but we'd watch the end over and over until we got it, and then watch the whole video over and over again until we could spot the step in the lesson you are teaching. Think about it... You could multiply your views by probably ten or twenty times per viewer for each lesson. All us newbies would also be looking at your competition videos again to see if we could identify the steps you taught. I'm sure your channel would explode even more. Please consider it for all of us who you are introducing wcs to for the first time in our lives... In other words... Can you dumb it down just a bit more?
Also, have you ever thought of doing an "About Me" video and answer some personal questions about yourself. Like is dancing your full time job? What did you do before wcs? Have you always been good at dancing? You're kind of our wcs mentor... Which means you're lighting the path for us. How do we follow in your footsteps? What are those footsteps? How much would we have to practice to get close to your level? Do you see where I'm going with this...?
Well, no matter what you decide, I will keep watching it all.

Hey friend! I really appreciate all the feedback!
I do plan on creating lessons specifically geared towards new dancers here on UA-cam. The videos I currently upload are recaps from classes that I teach. Those instructional videos will start to be up in the near future!

This was a video recap for the class. After we finish the hour long class, we summarize everything they learned and they film it for reference.
