  • Hoover Dam, once known as Boulder Dam, is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Arizona and Nevada. It was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression and was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The great engineering achievements of the modern world are more than purely functional. The visionaries who dreamed up their imposing shapes used art and science to create structures of dramatic beauty. Our bridges, dams, and skyscrapers, dominate our landscapes, as the pyramids dominated those of ancient Egypt. They're testaments to the creative genius of humankind.

Why does this seem like it was shot in the early 2000s?

Had to have been. The bridge isn’t there and no signs of construction for the road leading to it.

America! It can be inspiring and beautiful. It can also be dark and ugly. It’s soo many things, but it’s ours. It’s our America.

I'll blame myself for clicking on this video, I should of known there was no way they were going to explain how this dam was built in just 10mins. You would think it would've been a jam packed 10min video of facts ....when half the vid ended up being completely irrelevant to the construction of the dam entirely. NakedScience is most definitely NOT NatGeo that's for sure.

I’ve been there and I appreciate the size of the dam and the amazing structure they built but…
I dont appreciate how little consideration they gave to the men who died, a plaque on the side of the dam that a few tourist see. There should have been more consideration taken for safety.
My dad was an Ironworker. He built skyscrapers, highway and even nuclear power plants. Safety is very important.
Things like heat exhaustion are not hard to fix. When it starts happening you watch for signs the start taking people in and giving proper care but finishing the dam on time was all important. Many of the other deaths I have read about are also from rush8ng to get things done too.
