There's a moment in the book in which we get Blackthornre's thoughts about Osaka Castle, and he is in complete awe at the size of it and how the Tower of London is a stone hut in comparison. In the TV show, this can be done visualy, which is great.
The comparisons to GOT are so ridiculous. Martin "borrowed" from Shogun/history and NOT the other way around. And it is based on ONE novel not a series. So to demand more seasons is ridiculous too. Look at "The man in the high castle". It started great because season 1 was based on this ONE book. After that it quickly went to shit.
Shogun the novel had a massive influence on historical and popular fiction when it came out in 1975. Martin was at the perfect age to be impacted by it at the time.
If you consider real history “spoilers” don’t read any more: the “hot Japanese daddy” is based on Tokugawa Ieyasu who took over Japan and his defendants ruled for 300 years. So he’s not gonna die unless the show really goes away from history.

Not only that, according to the book, blackthorne will be the shipbuilder of the shogun and his translator after mariko passed away.
