  • An overview of how I made an incubator that fits 10 six quart tub out of a converted broken wine cooler refrigerator. Total cost was about $35 not including the thermostat. Hope this helps anyone planning on breeding their snakes or lizards and trying to make a quality reptile incubator!

Great video, but I wanted to add two things:
First, I would NOT recommend that you use electrical tape to hold your heat tape on. The adhesive is not designed for high temperatures, and it will get "gooey" and possibly detach from the back wall. I would get some foil tape, or something else that is heat resistant.
Second, I suggest putting as many filled water bottles into the incubator as it can hold. These will act as a heat sync because when you open the door, the temp plummets because of the outside temperature. The water bottles will help keep the temp as stable as possible when you close the door back up.

Thanks for the input. I was planning on doing some water bottles - that I was aware of. The heat tape on the other hand - I do typically use foil tape I just wanted to try out the electrical tape here because I really do not like foil tape. It's messy and difficult to work with and often times carries a bit of current since it is conductive (no idea how though because all of the heat tape I've used it one has been correctly wired and insulated). So I wanted to try the electrical tape since i knew it would definitely not carry any current. If it detaches though I'll definitely switch it out for some foil tape.

Hi nice video. Would you tell me how did you recognize the display and light electric cables please? Thanks

Great, Vid, i picked up a wine cooler exactly like this model just today, i will try converting it to an incubator, how is it holding up for you ?

Can some box get more humidity level than other due the position?

Great video ! What did you use to seal that hole at the back... just piece of PVC sheet ? If so how thick was the sheet you used ? I actually picked up the Exact same wine cooler yesterday off Craigslist for $25. If you pull the heat sinks (the aluminum pieces with the fins there's two, one for the two fans on the back & one for the fan facing inside the cooler) off do think you can leave one fan in the original location facing inside the cooler, cuz it has the deflector that pushes the air to sides and up & down. I honestly would rather not drill into the top, but if I have to I will. Can you possibly tell me which wires are for the light & which ones are for the display ? If not it's fine I'll figure it out. I'm also curious if it's possible to run a switch to those small 16 gauge wires (I think that's way they are, but could be wrong) for the fan, light & display. 🤔 That way I can use only 1 converter to power all three and have the fan on the switch so you can turn off the fan IF need be but still get power to the light & display.

I used great stuff to seal the hole and then screwed a panel of plastic over this (I don't believe it was PVC). That sounds like a good idea I would try it and see what the flow is like but I don't see why not. As far as the wires I can't remember exactly but it wasn't too hard to figure out. As far as the wiring that does sound like it would be a simpler way of doing it.

@ridiculous reptiles, did you actually do this and only run one power converter to the wall? this is what im trying to accomplish

They are from the container store. I believe they are these here: www.containerstore.com/s/closet/shoe-storage/view-all-shoe-storage/our-shoe-box/123d?productId=10001753&country=US¤cy=USD&cid=cse:PLA Not sure if they are exactly six quarts but they are the size that fits in there the best. With the sterilite six quarts I wouldn't have been able to fit them side by side in the incubator.

Unfortunately I don't have any clutches right now to try out in it but it is working great! I'll see if I can do a video on it soon.

I am 13 do you think I could handle doing something like this. I am pretty good with DIY and building things.

Most likely. Its very easy to do the hardest part is just taking apart all the cooling parts and figuring out what wires power what. Just make sure you know what you are doing with electrical stuff because you wouldn't want to cause an accident.

I explain it around 3:15. The fan and lights are both wired the same. You can use any 12V adapter plug and wire it onto the cut off end of the fan's cord or what have you. Make sure it is a 12V though because all of those small computer fans run off 12V power NOT 120V power. Let me know if there's anything else I didn't explain.
