Honestly, you can ride almost anything on a hardtail with decent travel up front. Yes, it can be pretty rough at times but they’re surprisingly capable. Hardtails for the win! 👍
Whinlatter been one of the places I've seen and been wanted to go for a long time, particulary the Altura North loop descent trail, great to see your take on it riding effortlessly on a Hardtail well done and thanks for sharing 😁🤙
No problem at all Gary. Cheers for taking time to leave such a positive comment. It's really appreciated. I'm hoping to head back when all the trails are open 👍
I think trail centres very much have their place. Loads of people learn to ride on them and they attract loads of people to the sport. I'm all for trail centres, especially when the trails are well though out and in good condition 👍
I recently got a hardtail myself, and honestly that bike has blown me away! Taken it down some really steep technical trails and already feeling the benefit when jumping back on the full sus. Learning how to ride better, choose better lines as Christ it is hard going over rocks. I never thought I would like it as much as I do, as love my ebike! I was wrong, couldn't do without my HT now ♥️👍🏻 I would also like to add, I don't ride the steep stuff that well, but that is more my ability than the bike 🤣
Ha ha. Yup, I too have bikes that are way more capable than I am. They can get down anything, even uber rough - although you do take a battering. My favourite place to ride them are trail centre red and black's. On that sort of stuff they are so rapid. I also agree with what you say about switching between bikes. I always ride my full suss better after time on hardtail. Great bikes 👍
Nice vid mate. Whinlatter is one of my favourite trail centres. Chilled, but quite nice flow. There's a few Enduro trails dotted about if you're after that, and a brilliant campsite (and pub) in Braithwaite nearby. North & South loops are very different and I like the fact you go past the car park between the two, so you can refuel or repeat a loop. I've done a couple of big mountain days accessed off the South loop which is great on a summer evening (when there's fewer walkers)
Thanks for all the info mate. It is a really great place and I feel like the 7 Stanes could learn a lot from it. I'll defo be back to explore... sounds like there are way more options than I knew about. Hope you are all good mate 💪👍
Nice one mate, those trails defintely look to be more fun and engaging on the HT than on a long travel full sus, probably faster at times too . Every time I see one your HT videos I get closer to pulling the trigger on one 😁
As always a great vid, u never let us down Jamie, been a bit late in watching this one but I will blame that on my Transmadeira shenanigans! Shame u never got onto the south trails but still looked like a good day. Still thinking about building up a hardtail, might get there one day.
Cheers Alan. I have a lovely audience so I never want to let you guys down with the quality of edit. The last year has been tough but I'm going to keep trying. Cheers for the kind words... Transmadeira looked amazing 🙌
A hardtail is fine for Whinlatter, perhaps the most efficient for such a smooth easy trail centre. Venture out into the proper riding in the Lakes and you will rapidly find yourself under biked. Yes the hardtail will do it but once it gets proper Lakes rough it’s brutal. There are some off piste trails at Whinlatter if you check Trailforks which the hardtail would love. Also next time, at the top of the south loop head up onto and summit Grizedale Pike then ride down back into Whinlatter via Hobcarton, that’s an amazing descent.
Love the video whinlatter is my local trail centre shame 1 side was shut with all the forestry work going on at the moment next time you are down give sentmerthy a try just outside cockermouth just short tracks but more natural and technical downhill you would not be disappointed quite a few videos on UA-cam of it
Really nice video Jamie 😀👍 my 2nd bike is a trail/enduro hardtail too (Commencal Meta) and I think it is a really fun bike to ride! although you definitely have to be more focussed on rougher trails and on jumps 😄 also, these trail centres you have in the UK seem REALLY cool to me!
Hey Jay! I absolutely agree - you have to be a lot more switched on when riding the hardtail. We definitely have some decent trail centres. I've been trying to get some of them on the channel as I haven't actually visited that many of them 👍
Awesome Jamie 👌 never heard of this place before, although my knowledge below the Scottish border is pretty limited 😂 love the hardtail too mate looks so nice 😍🤟
Whinlatter is a great wee trail centre, ridden it loads of times. (Worked in Penrith back and forth) both loops are great but in different ways. I'm getting a steel hardtail 29er to replace my alu 26er. Bummer going all the way there to ride only one loop. Some amazing natural hill descents close.
@@streetpigeonmtb I did want a bird but couldn't find one anywhere. Everyone is out of stock. So plumped for Honza ESD, but also seen a Marin El Roy, which looks sweet 🤙
Oh mate gutted South loop was closed, the top section is fairly rocky and tec and the bottom half is really fast and flowy, perfect for the hardball. To be fair there is some great sections on the blue aswell! Winlatter is one of my fave trail centres but yes it is pretty low grip in the wet. But worth it for that final decent on north loop, mega! Worth heading back when it's dry👍
Really enjoyed that, I’m a lover of the hardtail. It’s got me into riding and are actually way more capable than many people give them credit for. That being said, I am in the market for an enduro bike later this year 😂. Have a great weekend 🙌
I totally agree. They can be ridden down most stuff and IMO they bring a lot of trails back to life. I love my enduro bike as well but I'll always have time for a hardtail 🤙
Yeah. My favourite combo is an DHR2 on the rear then either a DHF/Assegai or Shorty depending on how bad the mud is 💪 I have an Assegai on the front of my full suss at the moment and I'm really enjoying it. Cheers for commenting mate 👍
@@streetpigeonmtb you should try Hamsterley- a good mix of trail centre stuff, some quality off piste enduro and Danny’s DH stuff if you like it rough (but not on the HT there).
I’ve ridden whinlatter and dalby forest on my HT.. rough now and again but I’m away to glentress/innerleithan at the end of month, I think if you have decent brakes and decent travel it’s fine
Yet another person who's making me think that I should buy a hardtail! I was terrified for you when I saw those tyres. Such a shame about the south loop. I know that feeling - last week I climbed 400m to find that the trail I wanted to ride was closed 😠
I know! It's gutting, isn't it. Honestly mate, the hardtail is sublime and really worth getting if you can afford another bike. They bring some trails back to life and make you feel about 5 years younger... Well, apart from the ankle battering 😆
A slightly disappointing end to that one with the trail closure, the loop you did ride looked great though. And you are right, hardtails are definitely fun.
I know. I was pretty gutted about that. I should've checked the website before I travelled that far. On the plus side, it's a good excuse for a return explore 😁
Cheers man. It's just not for me. It's not a bad trail tyre but I'm so used to the DHF/Assegai/Shorty up front that I struggle with the recon. I like it as a rear, just not as a front 👍
prefer the north loop it's more continuous ,on the south loop DOA the black section is red really, just a small rock step/slab the rest is mellow, the south loop climb is great to access Grisedale pike, look on trailforks for a real lakes classic.
Love my orange hardtail, so good, capable and with the upgraded maguras can tackle anything, easy maintenance too. But I have to say, for a mid forties fella its hard on the body and can give you major fatigue during long runs, they also have a habit of irritating old injuries. 🤔 Anybody want to buy a hardtail
Honestly, you can ride almost anything on a hardtail with decent travel up front. Yes, it can be pretty rough at times but they’re surprisingly capable. Hardtails for the win! 👍
I absolutely agree. They are so awesome. Ultimate trail bike in my opinion.
Try the Planet X On One Hello Dave, I have one it’s awesome
Nice buddy. Hardtails are so good 👍
Love my 29er Nukeproof Scout , brilliant ride and it does go pretty much anywhere.

Good to see a trail centre getting some love on here. A lot of UA-camrs seem to have a negative opinion of them

Great video and riding. You really can't beat a good hardtail. 👍

@@streetpigeonmtb July hopefully.

My favourite trail centre in the North of England 🤘
It's very good. Any others that you would recommend?
@@streetpigeonmtb you should try Hamsterley- a good mix of trail centre stuff, some quality off piste enduro and Danny’s DH stuff if you like it rough (but not on the HT there).
Cheers mate. Been two years since my last Hamsterley visit. Need to get back!
This is my local trail centre. South loop is great 👍🏻
Ah nice mate. Yeah, I was gutted South Loop was closed. Good excuse to revisit though 👍
Great video as always. I would love a HT but Mrs Briggs says no 😬
Could you take her out a few times then ask again? 😁
I’ve ridden whinlatter and dalby forest on my HT.. rough now and again but I’m away to glentress/innerleithan at the end of month, I think if you have decent brakes and decent travel it’s fine

Great VLOG XC tyres too🤙

It’s a shame the south trail was closed, is a really nice quick loop you can do a few times!

Don't tempt me! I keep looking at the Pipedream Moxie! Could it be my main bike??? I DON'T KNOW 😫
Also well jealous of the pedals 👌
I can fully recommend a steel hardtail bud. Defo demo a Forge bud. They are pretty light as far as steel HTs go : )
@Steven Kimberley They are really nice 👍
My local!!!! U should come and check out setters (setmurthy above cockermouth) nearby
Thanks mate. That sounds awesome!
