  • This is the T-Roc R, which like the rest of Volkswagen's T-Roc lineup, including the standard model and now a Cabriolet, has been treated to a new fresher look with a range of snazzy upgrades.
Theres a redesigned grille, but the car still has the same looking front and rear bumpers, as well as the four tailpipes, which are a signature of R models and theres now a new, larger R badge that sits just beneath the VW logo in the middle. Inside, the sports seats are finished in a semi leather upholstery with tartan material centres highlighted with blue trimmings, a full leather option is also available as an upgrade. Theres a nice shaped leather multifunction steering wheel and the dashboard has been rearranged to accommodate a new, larger infotainment system. Some new kit, like keyless entry, comes as standard now, too.
Whilst the quality overall is now closer to the standard you’d expect from a top-spec performance crossover, the new touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel and climate panel are really annoying.
In the boot you get 392 litres instead of the 445 litres you get in other T-Roc models. It’s still a decent size, though. Under the bonnet, the T-Roc keeps the same 296bhp petrol turbo unit it had before, with 0-60mph in around 4.7 seconds, and it’ll keep going until it hits the electronic speed limiter at 155mph. The seven-speed DSG gearbox is silky smooth and the optional adaptive dampers really add another level of driveability to the T-Roc R’s ride and handling.
If you’re looking for a high-performance SUV crossed with a hot hatch family car, the T-Roc R is a likeable choice that won’t leave you disappointed. It offers bags of performance, handling and features and is a genuinely great alternative to more traditional options. It’s a good small family car, with a decent boot size and reasonable room for a young family and will surprise you with its excellent body control and performance. There is only one trim level which starts from £43,000 but there are many add ons and extras including some great paint choices.

I have one here in Australia. It's a beast of a car, and really practical too. The only gripe I have is all the tactile controls... what a pity!

Any problems with the car? What are some things you hate about it? How is the infotainment system holding up? Has it frozen on you? Is is easy to use?

What’s the ride like? I’ve seen other reviews of it being driven on just a normal road on normal mode and the driver is being bounced around all over the place 😅 I’m considering going for the Tiguan

Great video, i do wish you went into detail with the modes, like individual and expert offroad mode. What can you do? Lock the difrential or sway bars or anything? What were the options? Would have been great if you even extended the video and actually did an offroad test with the modes.
This Troc R is like the best cheaper alternative to a macan GTS, id personally go for a macan GTS, but for someone who cant afford a macan GTS this is the best poor man's alternative to a macan GTS, but maybe a tiguan R would be between them?

What would you have Cupra Ateca VZ1 or standard VW T-ROC R both 2022 models?

Do something about that intro. A junk yard just doesn't inspire a lot to keep viewing unless this is a salvage video. Production 101: its all about appearance.
One more thing, thanks for the memories. @ 1:00 I worked at the Baltimore many years ago.

Disagree. Spilt media controls works best. Left thumb volume. Right thumb skip through stations. Easy peasy.

Just bought the new model T-Roc R having had a Golf R before and it is a totally different car, very tame in comparison and feels poorer quality. The satnav is standard fit but not heated seats, unlike golf, and the lane keeping system and collision avoidance system are stupidly annoying (almost as bad as those fitted to previously owned Audi A4 and A8).

did you buy this new facelifted version or older gen with plastic dashboard? I am also coming from golf R 7.5 thinking about this car for my wife.

@@VK-sc6mf Yes, it's the new gen; all the best, I hope you enjoy it. One thing, it came without the engine cover (they cost a lot of money) because, apparently they catch fire. That being the case I think I should have been given it even if it can't be fitted.

I can’t speak on the R, but i bought a fully loaded R-line as a daily driver, the only quality difference from a golf is the door tops in the front are not as soft but i found T-Roc steering wheel is built better. But I preferred the raised driving position and actually having separate climate controls, from a usability point i found it easier to live with as the technology is basically the same minus tri zone climate i think. Surprised you had this experience with the T-ROC R :0

You purchased a Grid version... which is a cheaper version... Hence, why you dont have leather, heated seats and other safety features...
