Thanks a lot for uploading this bro.
Appreciate for the excellent video! 👍😍
MTV Sad but true is unreal!!!
Once again you have gone above and beyond my friend, thanks from all us true old Metallica fans and the the new ones too.
Super underrated show - Appreciate the upload
According to Jason, this was one of the best shows they ever played. And I agree.
Except for Kirk's harvestor solo 🤣🤣
I felt lucky to be at this show. Bumped into Death Angel walking around trying to get to the upper deck. Just in time to see people dumping beers and whatever into the crowd below and people chucking actual turf to the upper deck. Lol, good times.
I was right in front of Jason the whole time. Mind blown.
I was there.
@@RicoZaid_ if you can remember, how much did Jason's bass rattle your chest cavity? Legit question cause in most of the live direct soundboard mixes most of his low end is cut so you can only hear his growly and twangy mids & highs. I love his live tone with those Alembic basses but I feel the audio we do have access to of those shows doesnt do the low end justice.
Didn’t life look better then? People looked happier, more energetic, more in the moment, nowhere near as much posing. I honestly think phones and social media have decimated so much of the human condition.
You are correct.
Life was better.
We are being controlled and monitored by these damn phones.
I agree 110%
@@adamisaac4685I literally just wrote a song about it. 😢
Burn your leash.

Love it!!!
The energy of concerts like this are long gone.
Yep!!! Sad but true!!!
43:23 - that's me in the 2nd row with my high school buddy. Best show I've ever been to. First time I'd ever heard of Soundgarden and I .... was... blown... away. 17 yrs old. Two weeks before the east bay firestorm. Kind of the last thing I did as a kid.
just. wow. i was born 2 years later haha but i wish i were here
My first Soundgarden experience too. Completely blown away by those dudes. Remember Chris Cornell announcing they had the biggest cocks of all the bands only to have Mike Patton of Faith no More announce his band had the smallest? Haha😂 Such a great show. 🔥
I was there as well. Great times!
It was the greatest show great memories! And I get to watch it again!!
This sounds like 80s Hetfield singing! Not long after this his voice changed to the 90s era.
His greatest vocals were on the black album tour 91-92 some people prefer his load reload vocals but I think this was his peek. Still sounds fucking fantastic at the moment though
i'd say this is the last really really awesome larger than life hetfield vocal performance
This has to be one of the coolest shows, so glad this got included!
I remember watching this when it originally aired live on Mtv. It was a sunny Saturday afternoon and I was 19 yrs. old 🤘
How much of it they air?
They still brought some of that raw energy and tightness from the monster tour. I just love when they play slow and tight, not rushing through the songs. MOP, Sad, Never... they all sound amazing.
1:20:08 one of very VERY few James' falls :D
That’s the first one I’ve ever seen! He handled it well😂
Very rare! But he came out of the situation performing a nearly circus stunt( while having a guitar in his hands too!).
that reminds me of the same fail kirk had in 2020
I bet he was really fuckin pissed especially back then !
Ouuuu!!!!!
It's a strange feeling to miss someone you never met
You can't dislike James' humor at 1:20:33... Being family friendly as always: BLOW ME!
What he said?
Jason: oh one sec (while laughing)
I was fortunate enough to be at this show! They had played 2 nights in Japan prior to this as a rehearsal for the opening night of the tour in Oakland. I'm so glad the remastered this concert and gave it the justice it deserves. Good times!🤘🔥
Literally had this repeat on my Spotify during my trips to and from work today! I'm also so glad they remastered the audio for Moscow 1991....I've been waiting so long for the black album remaster and the deluxe version, mainly due to all the live shizzle they included!
I hope you know I appreciate this channel so much! You always deliver for us Metallica fans! Keep it up my friend, much love!
I was there. As I watched this it brought back such great memories. Faith No More…. Queensryche …..Watching that grass get torn up and thrown from side to side. Fights. Mosh pits. It was friggin’ priceless!
After the flattened cups filled the air... then the sod filled the air... everything got kinda quiet where I was standing. Then the crowd parted like the Red Sea and these 2 guys were chasing this other guy until he slipped... Bad things happened after that.
That snare sounds great. Great mix
That dude from the very beginning: "Hi, mom!" " She probably hates Rock'n Roll." - No, she doesn't, she is actually here somewhere, came over for Metallica specially. Ha!
James changed the Unforgiven intro there a bit. That's what's great about live shows.
I love the energy that live debut. They had a lot of fun with through the never.
Sorry for the long post, but here was my experience with Day on the Green 1991 - This was the first concert I ever attended. We caravanned up from SJ with a dozen cars in a giant cloud of smoke. Things seemed mellow enough in the parking lot but walking through the tunnel into Oakland Coliseum was a physical transition into a world of madness.
Things came off the rails between sets before Metallica took the stage. A sea of flattened cups being thrown on the field kicked things off when somebody tried to throw a cup up at the third deck - and everyone on the third deck collectively dumped about 1000 gallons of liquid on the lower rows. Thrown cups turned into big chunks of turf torn from the outfield and launched at the opposing side of the stadium. Literal gladiator battles broke out on the field, culminating with a giant man one-punching about 6 people before raising his hands to the cheering crowd. Another long-haired kung-fu expert was spin kicking people into submission. Sadly, these two combatants never met on the field.
Then Metallica took the stage and shit got real. Traversing mosh pits to make it to the front of the crowd gave you a 50/50 chance of emerging blood-free on the other side. One guy nailed me in the back so I knocked him down and watched in horror as a dozen people stomped him into the ground as they danced around the pit. We made it about three rows from the stage where we were finally pinned in by a sea of humanity and swaying with the crowd as you had no control over your physical space. All in all, it was a great fucking time.
Sounds amazing. Wish I was there
I was there but I was up at the stage right in front of Jason. We saw the cups, grass and dirt flying though! They sky look liked a swarm of bees.
I remember that huge guy holding court, challenging and clobbering oncomers during Queensryche! I was on a acid and told my friends "that's not right, I gotta put an end to it" (fortunately, they followed me down😅). When I got down to the floor, I waded thru to where he was and realized he was HUGE, especially 10 feet from him. I said "I've miscalculated, hell no". That, and the flying chunks of turf and garbage flying and landing all over us was kinda sobering, and then Metallica came out and thrashed everybody under that beautiful Oakland night air. Good time to be young.♥️
Holy shit!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing
45:23 Best quick instrument change since Stewart Copeland's 'King of Pain' intro :)
Oooof, yeah. Wow.
Thank you!!!!! You are a God. This is one of their best ever gigs. Bringing the black home to the road!
Seen Metallica 10 times excellent show each time
Thanks for this video. I got to this concert late. I missed Soundgarden and caught half of Faith No More's set. Up to this point I had seen Metallica on every tour but Kill 'Em All, this gig was absolutely crushing. Top notch.
All I have to say is THANK YOU! watching this rn love you man
Jason's voice is insane.
Crazy to think that Enter Sandman, Sad But True & the Unforgiven were all brand new songs at this point. It’s widely accepted that Metallica’s thrash work in the 80s is their finest, but the Black Album is the point where they became globally massive. The tour that supported this album was a behemoth and saw the band arguably at their peak as a live act!
This is great dude, marvelous 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 thank you for uploading this jewel Bro, cheers from Chile 🤘🏻🇨🇱🤘🏻
Thank you for posting this show. It is killer. Metallica 4ever. RN4L 🔥💯🤘🇺🇸👍
back when Mtv was fun to watch
Now it's teen mom...and ridiculousness lmao
one of the best concerts I ever attended
Thank you so much Metfan4l!! All these live shows are pure gold !
Love that Jasons Sabbath riff in his solo !!
wherever i may roam the vocal is identical to the album! james had the perfect vocal here.
One of the nicest things about these concerts right after an album release is how well Kirk's solos are =---)
james voice too
@@josef2861 That would count for that whole era
44:50
Oof, Kirk really butchered the beginning solo in Welcome Home tho 😂
Nice Brother - Appreciate the work and upload on this one - Great show and time for them playing live
I was at this Concert. Brings back old memories.
Dang! I'm Old. 😂
I really like seeing FNM and Sound Garden.
I was there at the ripe age of 16! Will never forget it!
This drum kit was definitely Lars best kit and he played it so well back then, definitely on top of their game at this period. Long live the Metal Titans 🤘🏼❤️
I was there. Wow, more than 32 years ago! Great show.
Lars' snare just hit different.
1.Better Sound Engineers
2.Woodshell Snare
3.He has the Fire back then to hit the Snare proper
4.His Drumsticks (RegalTip) were made of Wood especially the tip makes a big difference in sound, since 1994 he switched over to Ahead Drumsticks wich tips are made of plastic and the stick itself is made from Aluminum encased in Nylon cover
The Black Album was peak snare for Lars lol it was always my favorite
I was in front ,got a pick from James
Awesome show!!
Thanks for the upload 🤘🏼
23:30 raw power
Sad But True has the perfect tempo!🔥
Kirk with a Strat for first time of The Unforgiven fits perfect even though looks big on him but I love that color though I want his guitar even James' acoustic guitar.
Lol Jaymz bail at 1:20:05 ... Jason with the save....
Thank you so much man!!
Jasons bass intro to for whom the bell tolls is amazing stuff..god daym😮
Lars is an absolute legend
People always give him shit and saying he sucks. I get it, he can be a dick and his playing a lackluster these days. But then you go back to shit like this and show them how much of an EXTREMELY legendary drummer he is. The man was a fucking maniac on the kit once upon a time.
Cool to hear some positive towards Lars
@@skwisgaar821 i know i hate that!!! Im thinking to myself then why are you here????
Always And Forever!! The 80’s Originater
@@HeavyRaidenonly come latelys talk 💩 about Lars
Nice thanks for uploading
Great mixing mtfan 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Jason's "firing on all cylinders" comment brought me here
Cuz you're a come lately
@truthhurts79 lol
@@truthhurts79 absolutely not! I was referring to a very recent interview Jason did on Metallicas Spotify channel and he mentioned this gig so I looked it up.
Good god, Harvester of Sorrow... holy shit
Nice One Mate! Cheers!
One of their top 10 gigs for sure
Which do you reckon was their very best one?
@@artyschopy difficult to say.
Seattle 89 of course is the top
I was there, it was an awesome day 🎉
Thank you.
You sound exactly the same now good job
That is so cool a Day On The Green event
Holy Shit Toto's "Dune Main Theme" playing in the background. How sweet.
Kirk's tone here is super soft and smooth, it's nice.
Werewolf transformation on Jaymz Esp is epic!
I was at this show….The field got torn to shit….It turned into a huge grass fight before Metallica came on. It was fucking awesome
Happy this show is included, but it's not the entire show
I was there!! It was great!!
By 1991 they were seasoned musicians on stage they were a well oiled machine compared to the first time I saw them in 1982 in a small club in San Antonio Texas.
FFFFFCK YEAH MAN
MANY PEOPLE
WANTED DAT CONCERT YEARS
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
They were on fire...there to prove a point to the Bay Area that they were the m'fin kings and they proved it and crushed souls! There are tales of this show...them coming back to Day On The Green and other bands, friends witnessing this and it was magical! \m/
So great…remeber this line up. NO CELL PHONES … fantastic🙏
11:02
Nice old memory, it never came back.
i really want to see the year and a half outtakes goddamit!!
I Love Jason, you were the best bass player of Metallica ❤
11:02 -
FFFUUUCCCKKK YYYEEEAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The bass really cuts through the mix in these recordings its insane
Holy crap, that's was savage
I was there. I didn't know this existed
Compared to other live versions of Master of Puppets, this must be one of the slowest, but it sounds great.
The first 91 gigs they were really taking their tempo seriously. Slow, tight and heavy. You can see later into the tour they're rushing much more
Sounds fucking HEAVY!!!
Back when mtv was still MTV
I was there
so back in the 90's The "M" was FOR "MUSIC". Not Money, Melo-dramas, and Mainstream pop-culture. GOT IT.
Boomer
Holy shit I’ve never seen Master played so slow
Epic concert. Remember the sod flying before Metallica took the stage
Jason Newstead makes Creeping Death so much more killer! 🤘🏼🎸
No guitars making creeping death you come lately
Hell yeah 🤘😎🍺
Welll ladies a gentlemen, this is the greatest band ever.❤❤❤
I was in the mosh pits front and center . There where hella pits. They where deadly.
This has to be the most played live version of "Sad But True"....Bob Rock wasn't kidding when he said "This is KASHMIR of this Generation!" Paraphrasing of course! ❤
I'm slow so bare with me here; Sad but true is the only track that was proshot that day?
Man. I miss Jason! Good ol days
1:20:08 James rollin on the Floor😂🤘
It's mad to hear The Black Album be referred to as ''the new one!''
How sweet it must have been to be a teenager in Los Angeles around 1991
They had literally just played Tushino Airfield in Moscow weeks before this. It doesnt even sound as if the settings on their amps were changed from that show and you can hear the same james hetfield in this performance . This is peak metallica
Do you have the David fricke tapes?? Hopefully those are better than the podcast lol
33:07 yeeeeeee eeeee eeeeeaaaaaaah!!!!
@1:23:00 Kirk is WAY up in the mix & man... he sounds like he's using Dimebag's rig for MTV's coverage of Sad But True.
Great show!
I was there.
How sad that the encores where not recorded
Wherever I roam is godly!! I ask no one!! Lol
