I have been a fan since I was a little girl watching them beat Arkansas in '69 with my mom --- graduated years later --- and proud of my school --- win or lose --- the best in Texas !
We have a common experience. My father was a huge Longhorn fan all his life & was watching that game afternoon on a cold December 6th, 1969. I was ten and being born the third daughter in a very Texas born/Texas raised family, my oldest sister had been a cheerleader in both Jr High & High School. My middle sister had just gotten cheerleader in Jr. High & I was still three years away from trying out for the spot in 7th grade. If we’d been born boys, we’d be jocks. It’s just Texas, baby! In ‘69, I’d heard of the Longhorns; I knew they were Texas’ team, but after watching that game, I was hooked. It changed the whole trajectory of my life. In fifth grade, I was determined that I would study Journalism at the University of Texas. I did & although I graduated from another university, I’m still a devoted Longhorn fan. We lived close enough to go to several home games in Austin each season. During the 70’s Texas rarely lost at home but if they did & we were there, my father would rush us all out of the stadium. If we were traveling & the game was on the radio & the Horns were losing, he’d turn it off or change it to another station. If the game was televised & the team was losing, he’d switch stations. So, as an homage to my burnt Orange blooded father, I might know the Longhorns lost, but not since 1969, have I ever watched them or heard them do so. Hook ‘em 🤘🏼

I hope he does, because he has some pretty big shoes to fill. Darrell Royal (1957-1976) was the first of the best head coaches and then it was Mack Brown (1998-2013). We just can't keep losing to teams like TCU who had not won a game this year till they beat us. That was sloppy and we should of won.
