There's only one born every century. I discovered this unique person only fifteen minutes ago on our French classical radio station (France Musiques). I pounced on my computer , and here i discover her yet again. Marvellous. Wonderful, and SO unique. She was deaf until the age of twelve, and retrieved her hearing through percussion. Another Angel of Music- our greatest and most beautiful goddess.
I just want you to know that you're beyond an inspiration to me. Your being such a talented artist as you are, while having to overcome what would probably put down many others, you don't understand what hope that gives me. Thank you so much for being who you are Dame Evelyn Glennie.
What a really well composed piece of music. Insanely good! Evelyn must've had a ball playing this piece. Reminds me of Varese or maybe even Frank Zappa (who worshipped Varese).
Hi Scottiedog, to answer your question..... all the instruments except the waterphone were provided locally from Switzerland and I can't remember what the make was. Sorry I can't be of more help!
Richard Adolphus Waters, artist, musician, and inventor of the Waterphone, b. 9/19/35, died July 4, 2013. His personal website, and, in another site, his obit, can be found Wiki on Waterphone and composers for it.
Can anyone tell me what grip she uses on the mallet percussion? And ms. Glennie if you see this id like to say your truly an inspiration to me and i love watching your performances.
Harley - it is somewhere amongst burton and rosauro's interpretation of cross grip. Very very strong/powerful strokes. Challenging for interval switches while learning
Thank you for all your very kind comments :) Enjoy an exciting 2013!!

Safe and sound
I can't imagine what the sheet music looked like for percussion O.O
2 words: Sub-scribed!
Looks like a Kolberg to me, but I might be wrong. With a pedal, right?
