This has been going on for the past 20 years. I remember when 25 cent bags of chips was available. A lot of shrinking took place right after 9/11, then again a huge wave happened during the recession around 2008, it’s been downhill ever since
Agreed. The current $2 bag of store brand chips has only about twice the amount of actual product that an old 25-cent packet of brand name chips contained in my old school days. I always tried to save up to get the 25-cent one because the 15-cet packet was essentially just five chips and some broken bits of crumbs. Mind you this was in a Mom & Pop type corner shop not a mega grocery place but those old 15- and 25-cent printed price packs were kinda universal lunchbox items at the time for kids.
That's something they've done before. They think you don't notice but it's hard not to. Kellogg's has decided to make their Nutri Grain bars narrower. I guess it's their effort to save money.
Now they're narrower AND shorter but the wrappers and outer cartons are pretty much just as big as before. So they'd rather pay more to waste fuel and truck around more empty air space during distribution than be honest about a price increase.
Yes, I remember when most brands of ice cream was 1/2 gallon, which was 64 ounces. Then they reduced the carton to 56 ounces, now most brands have been reduced again to 48 ounces. This is a total loss of 16 ounces. Not only have they made the carton of ice cream much smaller, they have greatly increased the price!!! 😢😢
For us the standard 2-litre ice cream tub gradually became 1.8L then 1.66L then 1.4L and now I've seen a 1.34L one. Only the generic and budget stuff sells in 4L pails which may be approximately a U.S. gallon so that just goes up in price directly.
These company's are SOOOO GREEDY THEY RATHER SHRINK OUR PRODUCT THAN EAT THE INFLATION AND TAKE 1/20 OUT OF THERE BUDGET BC OF INFLATION THEY ARE THAT GREEDY PEOPLE
I bought a bottle of Gold bond medicated powder. I held it up to the light and the container was only half full. The meat portion of frozen dinners has been lowered by a third but they cost.75 cents more now.
It is ironic that they have Angel Soft toilet paper in this shrinkflation video. I had been buying Angel Soft for about 30 years. Not only have they reduced the number of sheets per roll many times, the size of each sheet has been reduced several times. At one time, the size of each sheet was 4.5 x 4.5 inches. Now each sheet is only 4 x 3.8 inches. I stopped buying Angel Soft in March of 2020 when Covid19 hit, and found the toilet paper section empty in all of the grocery stores. The only toilet paper I could find was "Strong and Soft" at Dollar Tree. Not only was it only a dollar for four rolls, each sheet was 4x4 inches, and each roll had 240 sheets. Not only is "Strong and Soft" much cheaper in price than Angel Soft , it also compares in quality. Now most items are $1.25 at Dollar Tree.

Don’t be fooled! The only reason the CPI has gone down!!! The downsizing of product causes inventory to increase meaning there’s more on the shelf thus relieving some price pressure. And prices go down.
A bogus theory. People who can't afford higher grocery prices tend to buy cheaper and MORE fattening less healthy items in place of their standard items. Sugary and fatty junk food ends up being the cheap meal of last resort for lots of poor families. Meanwhile the working middle class also gets even fatter and fatter because sugar remains a cheap processed food ingredient that gets used in places that you may not even realize. There aren't many Whole Foods outlets in poor parts of town selling organic bananas and carrots as snack options. Cheezie Puffs, pop and chips can be found in any corner store and will still be the readiest consumables purchase regardless of anything else.
I watched it happen and I'm not even that old (only 32). ~20 years ago at McDonald's you could get a double cheeseburger for $1, then it became a mcdouble for $1, then it became a cheesebuger for $1, then it became a hamburger for $1 25 years ago at Taco Bell a a taco cost $0.69. Now it costs $1.79. Oh, and back in 2018 those Nacho fries that cost $1? Yeah they're $3 now. So even the zoomers have seen this happening for way longer than a year
Im about sick of the toilet paper prices. I buy dollar store toilet paper because the Charmin and all the name brands are ridiculously priced with their 6 and 9 rolls. Buy supermarket brand or dollar store brand it all serves the same purpose.

Absurd. 3 nachos at 24 dollars.
