Yeah, they're ridiculous, and they ruined their taste with the "new improved" flavors which are kaka. I make popcorn on the stove now when I need a salty snack. Not buying chips anymore.
Pepsi touts their use of EV trucks in Commiefornia and most Woke have no idea they haul shrinkflation chips. Newsom included. Most assume these greenwashed trucks haul sugar water, which is over 8 lb a gallon.
LOLOLOL. The "unaffordable food" hasn't even made a dent to the rising obesity rates in America. Yeah, big doubt that you addicts are going to stop buying lol.
The only reason why people kept buying it is because they do it very sneakily by not announcing it and just let it happen. When you don’t announce it and the amount they took out is very small, like a few grams here and there, people generally won’t notice unless if its the amount OR its happened enough people noticed it’s a lot less heavier than before.
Love this story and information. All we have to do as consumers is BOYCOTT the products and the companies will get the message. You did sort of mentioned that in the video. Thanks
I only buy one-ingredient staple foods and cook from scratch. Also, we grow a lot of food, indoors and out, and keep free-range chickens. If I want potato chips I make them from scratch. I make the catsup from scratch, too. But I've been boycotting the American manufactured faux-food industry for a long time. Our food budget, including vegetable seeds and foods we can't grow, is no more than $1 a day per person. Also, zero-waste, and a 90/10% plant/animal product diet helps get to that point. This week we're planting a year's supply of garlic in a 5x3 foot space, for next July's harvest. You can plant that in an out-of-the way place on an empty lot if you don't have space. Stealth gardening is a thing.
It will need to become more mainstream. Take the video views, for example- 1 month and only about 25k people are aware of this story. Needs to get much, much bigger for a change
You can't even boycott a product anymore either. The big corporations own most of the grocery store now, leaving the consumer with few different options. All we can do is use as little of the things we don't need and are just wants. Its not much, but not buying something is about all the power we have left.
It's not unheard of for one singular parent company to own many "competing" properties of the same product. _Sunchips are way too expensive this week, I'll get Funyuns instead_ *Same company*
Canned goods is where I notice it most. Coffee used to come in 1 pound cans, they're now down to 12 ounces. Tuna used to be 8 ounces and now it's down to 5.25. And things that include liquid in the can, like canned tomatoes, give you more liquid than tomato now. The cans are still the same size, you just get less of what you're paying for. And oh yeah, then there is frozen pizza. The round pizza used to fit snuggly in the square box but now it rattles around in there. I estimate the diameter of the product is about an inch smaller than it used to be.
That’s why at times I tend to shop for store brands. The prices are much less, and they taste pretty much the same as their name brand counterparts. In other words, you’re only paying more for the name, not the quality.
Shrinkflation has been going on for decades .Back in the 1960's and early 70's a large bag of potatoe chips was one large bag with 2 individual bags inside inside for 70 cents or less . By the mid 70's that large bag of chips was only one bag . By the 80's the bags started to increase to a $ 1 a bag and had air pumped in them which they claimed was to protect the chips from being crushed . Ever since the 70"s quantity stared to go down and the prices started to go up.on chips , cookies , crackers , coffee , cerial ..... and people still buy
Not only is shrinkflation deceptive and more expensive, it's also: a bigger waster of packaging, more difficult to meal plan (when you're used to a bag feeding your whole family, now you need one and a half), and takes up more room in your pantry/fridge/freezer.
I don't have any loyalty to brands anymore. I look for the most amount of food by oz and cheapest price per that oz. I am tired of companies thinking that we don't notice. At the end of the day we have to eat so I am going to do my best to not buy the brands that are taking advantage of the consumer the most, hard but at least I am trying. People are barely eating due to such high prices and they ALSO want to reduce the amount you get per bag?! These companies should be punished somehow. 😡
There are some frugal and thrifty food channels that go into cooking budget ingredients on a challenging budget. I like the $1 a day challenges and made that my goal for our own food budget. I learned to make flour tortillas, bread, pizza dough, and simple hand cut pastas. I already was baking cookies, cakes, coffee cakes, pies, dumplings, and naan from scratch. That's just baking. There are so many tips for careful budget shopping and practicing zero-waste in the kitchen.
Get as much as you can off your list at places like Aldi, Grocery Outlet, and WinCo. These are reasonably-priced stores and you can find really good prices on meat, bread, cheese, and frozen foods there. Last week got a pack of organic, free-range chicken drumsticks at my local Grocery Outlet for $4/lb instead of $8/lb at Safeway. Made a very hearty pot of homemade chicken noodle soup for less than $1 a serving.
The same companies that whined about having to update packaging for nutritional info somehow were able to resize and remark packaging to pump up their profits to an obscene amount
I've never once bought iced tea. I've purchased tea bags and make my own. My dad's comic books were 64 pages for a dime. When I was a child they were 32 pages for a dime. Now they are dollars each with many pages of ads. Everything shrinks, costs more. If you want to keep up invest in yourself so you can earn more.
There is no reason for us to be getting goods shipped to our country, and there is no reason for us not to be completely autonomous in production and manufacturing. This is what happens when other countries own you, this is what happens when you let so called American companies get their goods and products from other countries and do their manufacturing in other countries. We are reliant on shipping, we become hostages to other countries, footing the bill for tariffs, taxes, shipping, and all the lovely special things that come with it.
I paid 2.17 for a single cheeseburger this week and it looked way smaller than they used to be. Remember when McDoubles were only 1.06 with tax? Crazy.
Ya, I’ve also stopped buying some of my favorite foods such as cookies and ice cream after seeing them shrink with prices keep going up. I guess I should thank these producers of these products since my health is a lot better because of this 😂
Exactly right. When I see ice cream for $10 a tub, no way. We can eat 2 tubs a week at my house. That would be $80 monthly on ice cream. 😱 They sell Italian ice $6 for 6 little cups. It's just sugar, water and a little lemon juice. I can make it for $1 and get 12 servings. Crazy
The problem is also that wages don't rise to keep up with inflation. Inflation doesn't always rise with wage increases. That is a big scary story that politicians and wall street wants push. Hey people like to listen to billionaires.
The other annoying thing due to this is the totally arbitrary amounts they’re using now, like in the Frosted Flakes example where they went from 24oz (i.e., ¾ lbs.) to 21.7oz. Like why 21.7? Seems like a totally random number. The per unit price inflation on Frosted Flakes is insane BTW. Works out to up 40% over 5 years.
Last time i buy a bag of chips last month when i opened a half full bag. I forgot to throw a bag out from 2 years ago and saw that it had over 30% more chips. Better for my health to quit anyways.
Dryers ice cream used to be a half gallon. It just keeps shrinking smaller and smaller. I'd rather pay more money for a half gallon than keep getting less and less.
And Breyer's, and Haagen Dazs. What used to be a half-gallon is now a little over a quart. What used to be a pint is 14 oz. Other thing about Breyer's is that some of the best flavors that I ate as a kid, the formulas have changed to the point some of them can't even legally be called "ice cream" anymore, because they have insufficient real dairy content. They've replaced some of the dairy with HFCS and fillers. Look at their Rocky Road and Coffee flavors next time you see them. They legally must be called "Frozen dairy dessert" instead of "Ice cream" because of insufficient milk.
Most all ice cream containers are now 1.5 quarts instead of a half gallon.Once one company does it and people continue to buy the product, the remaining companies follow suit.
The prices have absolutely not stayed the same. They risen while packaging has gotten smaller. If companies think consumers won’t notice they’re crazy.
How exactly do global supply chain issues affect the price of potato chips, of which the potatoes are grown in America??? The last I checked Ruffles aren't grown outside of Beijing , China.

I do think straight inflation is preferable to shrinkflation. If you take into account the amount of time it takes to go pick up these items and how often you need to- that is also an added cost.
The jar of jam was 22oz for $3.80 and is now 14oz for $5! My solution is make my own jam for pennies. I'm not buying manufactured food. Homemade is 20 - 50% less. We also quit all paper products. We got a toilet sprayer, cloth handkerchief, etc
Lays chips are some of the worst offenders. In 2020 you could get a 10 oz package for about $3. Now you can get a 7 oz package for $5. My response is to leave them on the shelf, buy a big jar of popcorn kernels instead, and make popcorn on the stove if I need a salty snack. Delicious and cheap.
Be careful of discount stores products being made in foreign countries. I noticed Dollar Tree has lots of items like pickles, condiments, spices and sauces made in India. They can ship them halfway round the world using petroleum but we can't have reasonably priced products produced here. 😵💫
To all the companies doing this: You are despicable, conniving and greedy. Take note of this that I am no longer buying your products because of this and I will keep spreading the word to my friends and encourage them to do the same. At some point your company is going to start losing money. I can't wait for that day!
Also keep in mind that at the same time they’re reducing the sizes and increasing the prices of their products. Most of these companies in the past several years have been posting record quarterly profits. They are not doing this because they have to. They are doing it because it benefits them and people won’t stop buying these products.
Look at the weights of canned products. 10oz? Used to be 12. 15oz? Used to be 16. It's pretty obvious if you look and it is very sneaky. Glad you're calling it out! Check out mayonnaise. 30oz? Really?
$9 for a 12 pack of soda, the minimum per item cost at the grocery store went from $2 to over $5 per item. Hell butter used to be 2-$5 and now they’re 5.49 for the store brand. The cheapest eggs in my market I live in are $3.99, pre Covid- $0.39 This is an economic hit job
I believe the reason why companies are doing this is too save money and prevent waste.the don’t want to over make or spend money so they make less and charge a high price for it.
I just mainly experienced shrinkflation with chips and Candy bags but I don’t regularly buy those items. Chips is always more air than chips regardless of year. I only bought candy bags once this year and that’s for trick or treators. I can easily avoid the name brands known for shrinkflation around me. I still pay early 2000s prices for selection items. I can get loaves of bread for less than $1 per loaf without any dollar store and a box of generic brand cereal that is the same in oz as Cinnamon Toast Crunch is just $1.25 at dollar tree.
The Happy Meal kids fry is a disgrace. Back in the 90's when my son was young it was a lot of fries. I don't eat McD's anymore but wanted the BOO bucket this year. Got one and there was literally 5 fries inside this tiny carton. I'm like if my son was young now he could have never eaten that kids meal and be full.
I'm glad I came across this video because I thought it was only me noticing that we are getting less and still paying much more YES WE ARE GETTING RIPPED OFF I've just stopped by a lot of things.
I think the makers of all the food products in this story figure if certain shoppers are determined to buy "foods" that have no nutritional value, loaded with calories, carbs and sugars, why not short them on the contents and charge them more while they're at it. Shoppers need to do what our moms used to do and make the family treats homemade. My mom used to make sugar daddy's on a spoon with just Caro syrup and sugar. Remember, Bisquick muffins with raisins, warm out the oven? Yes, not too much nutritional value then either, but at least it was cheap to make. Mom's sure knew how to stretch a dollar for sure!
We stopped buying cereal, candy, cookies, snack cakes, pop tarts and most other junk foods and guess what happened?,,,,,We lost a BUNCH of weight and gained some $$$.Most if the items featured in this report are not needed and only serve to make people heavier and sicker.
Yes my son gave up store processed food almost 2 years ago. He lost a lot of weight. I only make homemade breads, cookies, cupcakes for special occasions now. Even then he doesn't eat as much of the sweets. I only allow 1 soda can once a week too for him.
Oatmeal was 10 packs a box for $1.78 and is now 8 packs/box for $1.88. Deodorant was 3.0 oz. for $3 now sells 2.6 oz. for $7. Barilla spaghetti was a 16 oz. box is now a 12 oz. box.... Shrinkflation sucks.
Has anyone seen Whoppers lately??? 😧 Remember when they came in 1/2G milk cartons? Now the cartons look exactly the same only shrunken down to about quart!
We gave up most fast food April 2023. The only place I go to once in awhile when I'm tired is Taco Bell-we don't have many restaurants in our town to choose from anyway. It's $30 for 2 people for lunch. So stupid.
Toilet paper is easy to manipulate. Just look at the paper core. You can get tricked into thinking you're getting the same amount but in reality they just increase the diameter of the paper core. Eventually it becomes obvious that your roll of toilet paper resembles 70's style earring hoops dangling on the dispenser with very little paper.
Try taking a look at subway, their flatbread is just a thin long rectangle wrap, its no longer actual flat BREAD. They raised prices during a pandemic and have not lowered them, does no one see a problem with a company being that obsessed with profits.... They are technically an essential service, we have no choice but to buy, there needs to be something done. Just talking about it and repeating what everyone already knows, how do we deal with this issue?
I boycott every item that does this. My family has been spending significantly less on snacks, and we’re starting to lose weight. Suck it, Nabisco/Heinz/P&G/General Mills, I can make my own snacks.
Yes my son is allergic to eggs so I have found some really great recipes for sweet treats online. Even then I only bake every few months for a holiday or special occasion.
LOL chip shortage you really can't make this up anymore I didn't see the name of the channel when I first clicked on it but the second they started talking I could tell it was a newscast.
Powerade used to be 64 cents for a 32 oz bottle, then the bottle shrunk by 4 oz to 28 oz bottles, then the price increased to 89 cents, then to 1.20$, so i no longer buy powerade
Which we are currently buying from Venezuela and Saudi Arabia ....not to mention transporting it across the ocean USING DIESEL at great environmental chance of a spill.
@ so what do you wanna do when the Earth opens up and decides to release more oil and you could have imagined on its own do you have a solution for that or we just gonna deal with it?
they have been doing this for a while but alot more recently. with smaller amounts & bigger prices, it is a double whammy. M & Ms were 8.99 2 yrs ago, now it is almost 17$ at Costco. chocolate is in smaller packs too & has gone up at least 6 or more dollars. sodas are more than double in So Cal. meat is too high to even buy.
If toilet paper went up 4 cents per piece then why shrink? That's a "basic" item the majority of people buy. They're definitely not going to appreciate that.
@@_B.C_ Sorry. You are totally incorrect. 1) Boycotting can only affect the price of goods in the short term based on the laws of supply and demand. 2) Inflation has nothing to do with supply and demand. Governments always want you thinking the companies are the real bad guys, so they can continue their wild spending deflating the value of our currency. Only the federal government has the power to print currency. Period.
It's called cheapflation for a high price of greed out of a post pandemic and hopefully small is better for your health than to eat a lot. Yes a big rip off to all sorts of people as they can careless about any body. So why pay more for less is just straight sorry.
The value of the dollar is shrinking! All prices are soaring. The federal government should print dollar bills the size of a postage stamp. The dollar is worth 💩 Maybe the federal government could do something to strengthen the dollar? 😎
Lays chips are insane. 6-7 bucks for a bag of air. I may as well start frying up my own chips.
Frito-Lay is bigger than all of their competitors combined, there are plenty of other choices out there.

you’re right i noticed that classico brand sauves got watery over the pandemic, i still find myself taking them off the shelf just out of habit ffs
These same people will continue complaining while having high blood pressure, diabetes or cancer
If a package says something like "NEW LOOK!!!, SAME GREAT TASTE!!! on it, that's a tip-off that they've probably shrunk the package size.
Rebranding = _resizing_

Be careful of discount stores products being made in foreign countries. I noticed Dollar Tree has lots of items like pickles, condiments, spices and sauces made in India. They can ship them halfway round the world using petroleum but we can't have reasonably priced products produced here. 😵💫
@@macharrington7733 i hear u man, waste breeds more waste
Props for the Lay's bag 🤣
Rolls of toilet paper are 1/4-inch shorter now, too.
this is highway robbery
To all the companies doing this: You are despicable, conniving and greedy. Take note of this that I am no longer buying your products because of this and I will keep spreading the word to my friends and encourage them to do the same. At some point your company is going to start losing money. I can't wait for that day!
I don’t buy any of these brands anymore.
Also keep in mind that at the same time they’re reducing the sizes and increasing the prices of their products. Most of these companies in the past several years have been posting record quarterly profits. They are not doing this because they have to. They are doing it because it benefits them and people won’t stop buying these products.
Another reason to make products in America!!!!!
The cheapest eggs in my market I live in are $3.99, pre Covid- $0.39
This is an economic hit job
The cheapest I can get butter is $3.49 when on sale. Used to be $2.49 last year but the sale price has gone up a dollar this year.
Orange Juice has really shrunk sizes
I believe the reason why companies are doing this is too save money and prevent waste.the don’t want to over make or spend money so they make less and charge a high price for it.
If you’re gonna shrink them then reduce the price to what I’m getting. That’s disgusting to do.
Lay's chips on the anchor desk was a surprise
Mc Donald’s doesn’t fill up fry box either
Well, if Caklin' Kam was back on the job, that problem would be FIXED !
Oh, wait.
They never have
The Happy Meal kids fry is a disgrace. Back in the 90's when my son was young it was a lot of fries. I don't eat McD's anymore but wanted the BOO bucket this year. Got one and there was literally 5 fries inside this tiny carton. I'm like if my son was young now he could have never eaten that kids meal and be full.
I have a picture I took of cereal that the bag inside was 3/4 the size of the actual box it was in
I see them complain a lot about snacks and processed foods but never about fresh vegetables or fruits
I'm glad I came across this video because I thought it was only me noticing that we are getting less and still paying much more
YES WE ARE GETTING RIPPED OFF I've just stopped by a lot of things.
She's keeping an eye on that potato chip bag lol!! 😅
Teach & Preach 🙏
It is mostly processed junk. The prices for produce and eggs have definitely risen, and you can not "shrinkflate" those.
Consumers are watching for price gouging tactics and we won't forget.
I want a law where they have to put on the box “new smaller size” or 20% less
Has anyone seen Whoppers lately??? 😧 Remember when they came in 1/2G milk cartons? Now the cartons look exactly the same only shrunken down to about quart!
I don’t buy those junk foods ,bad for your body anyways😢
I know this is just sad it’s not even real food.
We gave up most fast food April 2023. The only place I go to once in awhile when I'm tired is Taco Bell-we don't have many restaurants in our town to choose from anyway. It's $30 for 2 people for lunch. So stupid.
Use dry bulk sections of stores. You weigh it so you get exactly how much you need. Plus cheaper by not paying for all that packaging.
I switched to Utz chips. They're more affordable now than Ruffles and Lays and taste 100 times better. Never going back
This should be illegal
LOL chip shortage you really can't make this up anymore I didn't see the name of the channel when I first clicked on it but the second they started talking I could tell it was a newscast.
nature's bakery fig bar is another one. They have kept the package the same size but have shrunk the individual fig bars. Plus the price has gone up.
Well it has to stop eventually. They can’t sell laundry detergent by the dram.
Powerade used to be 64 cents for a 32 oz bottle, then the bottle shrunk by 4 oz to 28 oz bottles, then the price increased to 89 cents, then to 1.20$, so i no longer buy powerade
You can’t drive a tractor without energy
Which we are currently buying from Venezuela and Saudi Arabia ....not to mention transporting it across the ocean USING DIESEL at great environmental chance of a spill.
@ so what do you wanna do when the Earth opens up and decides to release more oil and you could have imagined on its own do you have a solution for that or we just gonna deal with it?
Chips is the worst one. Now a bag is 8 oz for $6. There's like 5 uncrushed chips inside. Ridiculous!
they have been doing this for a while but alot more recently. with smaller amounts & bigger prices, it is a double whammy. M & Ms were 8.99 2 yrs ago, now it is almost 17$ at Costco. chocolate is in smaller packs too & has gone up at least 6 or more dollars. sodas are more than double in So Cal. meat is too high to even buy.
Well whoever’s cart that is must be doing okay, because every item in their cart is brand name rather than off brand. IYKYK.
There are ways around this form of corporate greed. 😉🤔😎
We have to move towards making our own food more. Relying on all this overpriced over-processed over-packaged crap is killing us and the planet.
Printing endless money backed by nothing???
If toilet paper went up 4 cents per piece then why shrink? That's a "basic" item the majority of people buy. They're definitely not going to appreciate that.
People act like they will die of starvation if they cant eat processed foods.
I just stopped buying things that shrank .
Inflation can only be managed by reducing government spending. Period. Anyone telling you different is a liar and/or incompetent.
Inflation can be managed by boycotting too. They need the consumer. We don’t need them, just want.
Period.
We're only $35 Trillion in Debt.
😊 use a bidet, make your own chips & dips, eat generic cereals, make sun tea...
*Remember when a regular bag of hot Cheetos was 1$ in almost all stores?*
It's called cheapflation for a high price of greed out of a post pandemic and hopefully small is better for your health than to eat a lot. Yes a big rip off to all sorts of people as they can careless about any body. So why pay more for less is just straight sorry.
So basically processed food. Want to stick it to’em give up sugar and processed food.
The value of the dollar is shrinking!
All prices are soaring.
The federal government should print dollar bills the size of a postage stamp.
The dollar is worth 💩
Maybe the federal government could do something to strengthen the dollar? 😎
At least meat at the butcher doesn't have this problem. A pound of meat is a pound of meat. Only the cost will change.
