The first down line for American football and strike zone grid for baseball have been much better received. Maybe this wasn't such a bad idea if it had only been displayed during replay reviews to determine if a covered up puck crossed the goal line.

+G20 with todays technology they could easily bring this back to where its actually beneficial for viewers not distracting. simply making the red tracer more thin would make a huge difference. it was great being able to see the mph of each hard shot.
To hockey purists like me, this was a travesty that made me throw up in my mouth a little. They did it because the number one complaint from novice and casual viewers was "It's hard to follow the puck". But to lifelong hockey viewers following the puck is second nature and this was an abomination to the sport.
