    I never ever thought a glass could rust. Let alone defeating the rust in a glass with MC-51. Lol!!! Seriously, this is magical.

      You never know...I'm sure you could find a good use for one. Got any rusty yard tools that you want to fix up? I want one now too, but I have no idea how much those things cost.

    The Fresnel lenses are so cool. What a find, absolutely intact, with all the impossible-to-replace parts there!

      well, the lenses were covered with rust. So yeah. Rust remover to clean the lenses

    I thought the glass was going to be permanently stained but that rust remover was amazing. Glad to see you hand paint the pop rivets. Really beautiful restoration!!!

    Fun fact! Traveling railroad workers would use these "red lights" when walking into town, and they would hang them outside the brothels. Thus the term, "Red Light District."

    These videos are so relaxing. My grandfather was a huge railroad buff and would have loved this lamp. A big Canadian thumbs up! 🇨🇦 👍

    Sand/Media blasting seems to be hands down the most effective way to remove old paint & material with the least surface damage. Great restoration as always!

    A little "hammer & dolly" action. These restores are so pleasing to watch.... I don't usually offer any advice because there so many others that do, BUT, a trick is to always trim the wick with a convex "curve". Burns more evenly. It's worked for my lanterns..

    It's a silly thing, but I'm always glad when restorers actually use a heat-proof paint with these sort of projects. Like... it's era for electronics, you probably will never use that lamp in your life anyway, so who cares?
    I care. It's a nice touch. Thank you.

    Very nice restoration indeed. Personally, I didn't mind the metallic look of the unpainted rivets but it looks great anyway. Thanks for taking the time to show us the restoring of your Rail Road Lamp. Cheers.

    I like restaurations...but I like even more to see old objects so beautiful. Even when they have so simple shapes and volumes!
    All the plastic stuff we have today don't have so much elegance.

    Showed the importance of keying and etching metal before paint haha. You took a mass produced disposable/non reparable thing and made it better than new. Fine job sir

      Alex yo not sure if you’re joking but this was not meant to be disposable, not too sure about the “mass production” either. Many yeah, but not masses. My husband has spent his life on the railroad and collects such things but he hasn’t seen one of these.

      Seriously I fall asleep every single time. My eyes shut for who knows how long, and I have to back up to see what happened. It's more the sound, I think than anything. The bead blaster is my favorite, and now I want to get one, for who knows why, I have nothing to clean.

      Hi, that's what I thought at first, but since these lights were for signalization and not to be used as a flashlight, maybe it was better for the lenses to look red instead of white.

    I would never have thought of using rust remover on the 3 lenses, since they are not metal. It really got them clean.

    Man, i love your job, for me the coolest thig of it, is to bring back in shape the old artifacts used by our grandparents, in other time, and is important for the society to remember them, and the work they did, and keep their legacy alive.
    Edit; change the starter capacitor of the bench grinder!

    Such great videos. I do think you need to get a powder coat system. It would help with hard to reach spots like this lamps inside because it uses a charge to stick. Also rough up your rivets so the paint can grab on and powder coating them they will have a stronger finish.
