It's awesome that even at that time, Surya was aware of the political implication of that anti-Reservation dialogue.
But it's also good to see that Udhay is honest about his own ignorance in public, while also praising Surya and elevating him without worrying about his own image.

At 22:00 Hats off to Suriya's understanding on Reservation. He too is from a privileged background but still learned about Social Justice. That one scene was so odd in 7lam arivu. Kudos to Suriya. In Tamil Nadu, political parties never bothered to educate. This is precisely the reason why most of the dominant castes, OBCs (BCs and MBCs) of TN, who enjoy a higher percentage (50%) of reservations spew venom on the 18% SC reservation here!
There is a very large gap to fill in understanding the theories of reservations and casteism, even in a state like #TN is the REAL TRUTH! That again is the reason for Tamil Nadu to still remain such a Casteist state, despite of all the Dravidian politics.
Even in this interview Udhay says reading Periyar will help you understand about தாழ்த்தப்பட்ட மக்கள், ஒட்டுக்கபட்ட மக்கள் ... Ignoring பிற்படுத்தப்பட்ட மக்கள். Gives an understanding that Periyar only worked for Dalits and not OBCs. It the BCs and MBCs who got empowered by Periyar and dravidian parties. They got their due representation in govt jobs and political representation but oppose 18% reservation for SC without knowing they getting 50% of reservation quota.
A recent incident showcased that Vanniyar community who protested against dalits entry into the temple says that they need reservation like SCs without knowing that they already are in 20% MBC reservation.
