I am 44 and going back to school this spring and am taking 13 credit hours. I am taking 2 hard classes and 2 easy classes. Moat STEM majors at my school take 12 to 14 credit hours per semester and I don't blame them because those classes are really hard. 2 of my semesters I am only take like 10 hours because I am taking 2 highly advanced math classes and a computer science class. My other semesters I will have 12 credit hours. I would say around 13 or 14 credit hours is my absolute threshold. If people can do 15 to 18+ credit hours in a semester then more power to them. I know it would be overkill for me.
@@cubby091398 it all depends on the rigor of the course, and STEM courses tend to be harder and therefore take more time. Each individual student needs to do what is right for them, and it sounds like you are
@collegeconversations One semester I have will take Data Structures I, Introduction to Advanced Mathematics, and Discrete Structures I. Another semester I will be taking Introduction to Digital Design, Advanced Calculus I, and Discrete Structures II. Like I said it is only 10 hours for both semesters but I am sure it would be at least equivalent to someone taking 5 easy/normal classes at 14/15 credit hours.
A 2-year masters degree listed as 30 credits assumes you will be taking five 3-credit courses per year (15 credits) for 2 years, for a total of 30 credits.
I don't understand, all students have to study for the same amount of time, 9 hours out of the classroom?? I think it is for the average student. Although research shows that on average students don't learn nearly as much
Nine hours of time spent on work for the class outside of time spent in actual class is the guideline. The 9 hours could be homework, studying for a quiz or test, working on a project, working in a lab, reading chapters in a textbook, or any other activity related to learning the material taught in that class. The 9 hours is a guideline for how long it should take the average student to complete the assignments for that week (3 hours per one hour of class time) so 9 hours for a 3 credit course.
Hours of outside classroom work could also include working with a tutor to understand the material, meeting with a study group to compare answers or work on an assignment, meeting with the instructor or teaching assistant, or regular homework, reading the textbook, or studying for an exam. Students need to make individual decisions about how to best spend their time learning the material. Some students do learn better in a study group while others will learn better seeking individual help from a tutor.
Hey, I'm looking for studying business analytics in UTD, I'm unable to understand the credit system and also how to calculate tuition expenses based on credit hours.
You need to make an appointment with a transfer credit counselor so they can review exactly which courses you need to take, which courses you have already taken that you can get credit for, and the remaining cost of the rest of the courses. Be prepared for that meeting with the degree plan of business analytics and your unofficial transcript
@@fariasharmin1654 you need to check with whoever issued the scholarship because sometimes there is a minimum credit load per semester, for example, the student must be enrolled in at least 12 credits worth of courses to maintain the scholarship opportunity
You should ask your academic advisor at your school because I can't answer that specific of a question. My academic experience is in the US, not the UK, so the definition of credit hour may be slightly different.

6 credit hours means at the end of the semester you will have earned 6 credit hours if you took (and passed) two classes that were both 3-credit courses.
The Course Catalog for your school should have the credit numbers listed next to the name of the course, for example, "Intro to Psychology (3)" so the 3 means the course is worth 3 credits.
Hi how does much 0.5 credit effects on my degree ( my teacher last season gave my 0.5 credit for GLE which i did need it bcz i already had 31 credits and i didn't complete the assignments and my point is 56 doest it effects on my degree? Can i retake it or erase it? Thanks.
You should ask your academic advisor this question. A half credit can still impact your degree technically. You might want to find a way to earn a half credit somehow so that it will total one complete credit. The registrar may or may not round up your total credits when it comes time to calculate your final degree audit.

It would be 12 hours of work for one class a week, so 12 x 5 classes = 60 hours a week x 15 weeks (length of semester) x 8 semesters = 7200 hours of work for a bachelor's degree
So, a 3 credit course means you need to attend this course in class for 3 hours a week for the end of the semester, and you need to study these hours each week for 9 hours, 3 hours each. Do I get it?
Yes, you need to attend a 3-credit course for 3 hours each week (usually a 50 minute class 3 times a week or a 75 minute class 2 times a week) and then complete 9 hours of related course work, i.e. homework, studying for a quiz, practice sets, group work, studying for a test, etc.
No, a bachelor's degree is typically 120 credit hours in TOTAL, which breaks down to enrolling in 15 credits worth of courses per semester, two semesters per academic year, and staying in college for 4 years. 30 credits per year x 4 years = 120 credits in total
If a school charges $1,200 per credit hour, for example, a 3-credit course would cost you $3,600. Two 3-credit courses would cost you $7,200; Three 3-credit courses would cost you $10,800; and Four 3-credit courses would cost you $14,400. Remember there are probably also fees charged each semester for a student activity fee (or similar).

If office workers has 40 hrs job per week how come a student should have 60hrs of workload.
This was developed when students in higher education were ages 18-22; unmarried; no kids, and all they did was college
That’s if you are taking 5 classes like me 😅.
N.B: Single mom of one and have to work over 40hrs per week to make it. 💪🏾
