To be a wing back you need to have superb crossing ability and great stamina. There is a wing back in the A-league called Rhyan Grant and all he does is constantly make forward runs when the opportunity arrives and when his team loses the ball he drops straight back into defence and wins the ball back. You also need to have a bit of pace about you as well. Also they mainly get forward as an option or when the winger has cut inside so they can be that wide man to receive the ball from midfielders and create a chance. Hope it helps somewhat.
It depends on whether or not you have the work ethic. I have played with wing backs (i play centre half) who have good dribbling and crossing but are too slow and when they push forward their pace and stamina is always caught out and it puts the whole defence at disarray as we have to cover for him. I'd say you could play at wing back as long as when your teams loses the ball in attack you drop straight back and always be making those forward runs WHEN THE OPPORTUNITY ARRISES NOT JUST WHEN YOU WANT TO JOIN THE ATTACK. You might be more suited to a wide midfielder in a setup where you aren't a winger and you don't have wingers as then you won't really require that pace (like Muller, Milner playing on the wing or even a David Silva) but you will need to be a sublime playmaker who cuts in a lot. Another position you could play is the number 10 role or CAM where you play in the pockets and dribble the ball at the defence whilst having the ability to play that through ball to lead to goals. Many Atacking midfielders (CAM) don't have blistering pace but have the ball glued to their feet, can weave through challenges and are unselfish enough to play the ball through (like before mentioned David Silva, James Rodriguez, Milos Ninkovic... search him up and many more attacking midfielders not blessed with extreme pace. Hope it helps.
1. Make interceptions to stop attacks before they happen 2. Dig in, and make tackles to protect the back 4 3. Recycle possession as quickly as possible to start new attacks
That's Busquets at his peak. He doesn't get the praise that MSN/Xavi/Iniesta get but he's every bit as important and Barca's league standing is partially due to his dip in form
There is no perfect DM because teams have different playing styles. Kante is ideal for Conte´s style but he would fall short at Barcelona or Bayern Munich. Busquets would suffer incredibly in a team that doesn´t prioritize possession, it´s a matter of perspective.
Lamar Williams he is, in Milans 4321 he played in the middle of the three and in Juves 3142 he was the 1. Both those teams had the ball most of the time so his defensive qualities weren't as important
Mario Rod5 Juventus played 352 also at Milan it was more of a 442 diamond with h sitting at the base of the diamond being the deep lying playmaker with gattuso and seedorf at the sides which both are known for their definsive qualities
Toni Kroos is a pretty bad lone CDM as his marking is poor. The reason why he plays well now, is that he plays CM. The main defensive duties are with Casemiro and and to a less extent, Modric.
The day I realised that Pirlo isn't blessed with speed and agility but is still world class, I realised football isn't just about scoring, it's so much more. And this moment made me fall in love with football!💙
+Dembelulu y shouldn't he as soon as he left Leicester they went from 1st to 17th nd Chelsea went from 10th to 1st. Kante is simply sensational and he is the reason y Chelsea r top. He's made the most tackles in the premier league in the last 3 years nd he's only been there for 2. This guy is amazing and is only 24 so he's only gonna get better.
Pirlo = Italy wins World Cup 2006 Busquets = Spain wins WC 2010 Kroos = Germany wins WC 2014 Kante = France wins WC 2018 Seems like a pretty important position to me!
again Busquets loses to another player. No Busquets is better then Kante and Kroos. His composure on the ball, his tackles, and Distribution is greater than the other two. I get it that the people around here LOVE the BPL but come on. Sergio Busquets is the best CDM of the last 8 years
Exactly, his passing is on par with Iniesta's. His marking is amazing. And his tackles aren't forceful leg-or-ball ones. He knows how to tackle to win the ball. And busquets doesn't lack skill either. He rarely finishes a game without pulling off an impressive Cruyff turn, or a roulette. But what's most amazing about him, is his eye for the game. He can read the game like no other. He can play killer passes that look like nothing. He can do anything, except score.
granit bajraktari I agree with you 100% he actually reminds me of Zidane when he's on the ball. He doesn't brutally tackle like a brute defender. Instead he pickpockets the opponent off the ball.
Kante becoming the first player winning back to back with different clubs? get your facts right..he is 2nd..first was Eric Cantona(Leeds United then Manchester United 92,93)
Grzegorz Krychowiak, Augusto Fernandez, Bruno Soriano, and Roque Mesa have done wonders in La Liga. Saúl Ñíguez too but he can play any midfield postion and Vicente Iborra as well.
Surprised at the showing of Dier when saying moving a CB who can pass into DM isn't the way to do things. Dier is a fantastic DM - Spurs game changed at the weekend when he moved forward
The perfect defensive midfielder is some one that can read the game really well . Screen and protect his back four well and most importantly not only to win the ball back or destroy/disrupt the play of the opponent but to also turn that interception/tackle into a good attack for his team .
What a guy to Poet, Vuj & the rest of Copa 90 team for getting a part of the interview with Vieira were they talk about "Wenger in or out" on Danish television before the Arsenal - City game!
great great great videos im a hardcord football fan and you can never learn enough about the game and for younger generation having a simple but yet precise explanation like this video and alot of other video is wonderful please make more videos like this pepole footballing¸knowledge will grow
Micheal Carrick is/was the most underrated CDM in England. He would have been a handy anchor behind Gerrard and Lampard during the late England golden generation
I know I am late and nobody will probaby read this but you failed to mention two players! 1. Xabi Alonso, another playertype like Pirlo who did the job masterfully at Bernabeu before Kroos made the transfer. HE was the heart of Madrids game and more important than any Ronaldo or Bale! And he continued that role in Munich! A true legend! 2. Xavi Martinez! Another wall in front of the defense, he was the one freeing Schweinsteiger in the 2013 CL Win! He was key and today he is, in my opinion, hands down the best DM on the planet! Great anticipation, good passing I see him even as a mix of the wall and deep field playmaker types. The best 40 million Euros Bayern has ever spend (maybe until they buy James in the near future)
Definitely the most underrated position in football but if anyone would come close to being the perfect defensive midfielder for me it would be Xabi Alonso, he has everything - Vision, Technique, tackling, physicality, intelligence; he is simply complete and it's sad to see him retire at the end of the season
Verratti is better in my opinion. I see Ligue1 and EPL. Verratti has the Pirloesque vision and pass and does decent at his defensive duties. He’s agile and carries the transition to attack. Aggressive play style but imo he’s amongst the best 3 Midfielders currently.
Not only that this position will probably be even more important considering all the talent that plays it like Julian Weigl. I can see in the next transfer windows that this position will be very needed. Once Marcos Llorente comes to the scene in Real Madrid my goodness casemiro will need to be ready lol
Kante is the perfect defensive midfielder but not the perfect 'midfielder'. That would be Gerrard, Alonso, Lampard, Vidal, Modric, Dembele to name a few
Every CDM has their own strengths according to their team. Busquets is perfect for the Barcelona and Spanish style of play. Hes not the fastest or the most celebrated player, but he makes up for this by simply being in the right place at the right time and solving the teams problems. He takes the "heat" out of every situation and always provides the correct pass. He provides the balance in a high powered offensive team. All CDM's are unique in their own way...
I didnt know i was engine till now this is exactly my stile of play once i score 2 goals as a cdm kept the possesion did 20 tackles and when i was removed they scored 2 goals and my best friend ivan who is striker scored another 2 long shot goals.like i beat their best skillers intercepts so many passes like i interceptet 10 passes that day and helped the defense. And i would always pass to backs.I absolutley love engine to my thats the most beutiful style of play.

Let's see if he can do it playing European Football...
Well... were i a manager, i want my defensive midfielder become 3rd center back that can cover cb if the cb is lured forward or sideways. And that can pass long balls accurately. And able to shoot from distance
im a cdm but i can play rb because im a cdm and i use strength against and i read the game so it's hard for attackers i have pace to so i also abuse that
Kante has a bit more to his game than Makelele in that he also, at least at Leicester, uses his natural athleticism to add urgency to an attack and support a blistering counter. When he played at Leicester he was in a more central midfield role alongside Danny Drinkwater, who played as, in a sense, a deep lying playmaker in that he was the creative player in midfield with an excellent eye for a pass. For many of Leicesters attacks it wasn't uncommon to see it start with Kante as he drove forward through midfield using his pace, either laying it off to Drinkwater to pick a long ball along the way, or going himself before playing the ball to Mahrez, who was cutting inside for it, or one of the strikers, or Marc Albrighton for a cross. Similar to Makelele's simple distribution, but he employed it after a long run and in a forward area of the pitch far more often.
Kante is only having his second great season and he's already ranked on top among players who have proved their consistency over many years. Then again, Copa90 made a smart move jumping in on the bandwagon, guaranteed views and likes.
toni afoke although he is the perfect holding midfielder I hate him so much because of his rolling around and diving but he’s class. However it’s not like we haven’t seen a perfect holding midfielder in the prem. Carrick is one of the most underrated rate players in recent history.
Ozil can be a good CDM too just look at his passing he can pass the ball anywhere and he is the mastermind of match analysis and he can tackle and act as a CDM put him alongside Xhaka in that CDM role for Arsenal free up Aaron Ramsey and we can use 2 strikers Arsenal must follow a 3 5 2 formation with Holding Mustafi and Kosielny in back Bellerin Ozil Ramsey Xhaka and Klosaniac in midfield And Lacazette and Aubameyang as thier 2 strikers That is a great way to work they can form triangles every where Ozil can built up attacks with his master passes and Ramsey can anchor passes in that Attack
Busquets was made for Barcelona/Spain national team. Put him on any other team and he won't succeed. He's strong enough to be a defensive midfielder for a team that does not have possession as much as Barca does and he's not creative enough to play an attacking role.
can you make a video about the definition of a Skipper? back in the day...I heard Gerrard, Carragher and Terry were labelled as skipper...so, what is a skipper actually?
anybody else wanna see this kind of episode for every position?
I really want to see a video of wing backs, and what does someone need to have to become the best at it :)
To be a wing back you need to have superb crossing ability and great stamina. There is a wing back in the A-league called Rhyan Grant and all he does is constantly make forward runs when the opportunity arrives and when his team loses the ball he drops straight back into defence and wins the ball back. Also they mainly get forward as an option or when the winger has cut inside so they can be that wide man to receive the ball from midfielders and create a chance. Hope it helps somewhat.
Yeah it would be great, perfect fullback would be the combination of Alaba and Lahm
nick ohearn i don't have pace but my crossing is very accurate. My dribbles are also successful. am i a good wing back?
It depends on whether or not you have the work ethic. I have played with wing backs (i play centre half) who have good dribbling and crossing but are too slow and when they push forward their pace and stamina is always caught out and it puts the whole defence at disarray as we have to cover for him. 1. Make interceptions to stop attacks before they happen

3. Recycle possession as quickly as possible to start new attacks
You know what makes a perfect defensive midfielder: Being able to the read the game, having amazing passing vision and being able to defend of course
GlentheChelseafan well u just described busquets
GlentheChelseafan like kante
That's Busquets at his peak. He doesn't get the praise that MSN/Xavi/Iniesta get but he's every bit as important and Barca's league standing is partially due to his dip in form
Carrick
another tip is, that if there's no one to mark, then find the hole in the middle of the field and stay there.
There is no perfect DM because teams have different playing styles. Kante is ideal for Conte´s style but he would fall short at Barcelona or Bayern Munich. Busquets would suffer incredibly in a team that doesn´t prioritize possession, it´s a matter of perspective.
Agree Pirlo would be destroyed playing the Kante role in this current Chelsea team for example
Mario Rod5 Because pirlo isn't a defensive midfielder
Lamar Williams he is, in Milans 4321 he played in the middle of the three and in Juves 3142 he was the 1.
Both those teams had the ball most of the time so his defensive qualities weren't as important
Mario Rod5 Juventus played 352 also at Milan it was more of a 442 diamond with h sitting at the base of the diamond being the deep lying playmaker with gattuso and seedorf at the sides which both are known for their definsive qualities
I agree too, but also gotta point out that an effective possession game doesnt happen without a good DM
Toni Kroos is a pretty bad lone CDM as his marking is poor. The reason why he plays well now, is that he plays CM. The main defensive duties are with Casemiro and and to a less extent, Modric.
Tundra Opta nope, he plays a cm, same position that Xavi, iniesta, modric, etc....casemiro is the real cdm I'm their 4-3-3
I want to know where makelele got a dwarven sword
The day I realised that Pirlo isn't blessed with speed and agility but is still world class, I realised football isn't just about scoring, it's so much more. And this moment made me fall in love with football!💙
Florentino Perez can be bang stupid sometimes.
So people are forgetting William Carvalho. He's amazing as a DM
His passing is not that good
if every young kid watched Busquets we would get a golden generation
'win the ball play it simple' beautiful
Kante should be in the Ballon d'or conversations... too bad FIFA love attacking players too much
no he shouldn't
he should be on this years world XI squad but I am not so sure on him being a contender for Ballon D'or
Not really, Ronaldo and Messi are on different planets
+Dembelulu y shouldn't he as soon as he left Leicester they went from 1st to 17th nd Chelsea went from 10th to 1st. Kante is simply sensational and he is the reason y Chelsea r top. He's made the most tackles in the premier league in the last 3 years nd he's only been there for 2. This guy is amazing and is only 24 so he's only gonna get better.
mahfuz rahman very true honestly watching him is a master piece
Pirlo = Italy wins World Cup 2006
Busquets = Spain wins WC 2010
Kroos = Germany wins WC 2014
Kante = France wins WC 2018
Seems like a pretty important position to me!
Ye Ikr
Enzo = Argentina wins WC 2022
perfect dm:
playmaking (not necessarily assists.
interceptions.
tackling.
Basically Busquets.
what makes the best defensive midfielder is having a Mohawk, a beard and 'stache combo...and being Chilean.
nuff said
Dembele is so underrated.

Ishraque Noor Mark Schwarzer too
He said first 'regular starter'
You talk about the perfect DM and don't mention Xabi Alonso? Realy?
leotinley he is trash 🗑 Kante is the best
ryan ayew in his prime he was legendary, seen as he’s in his mid 30s now.
ryan ayew shows how much you know...
Xabi Alonso - NEXT LEVEL CDM
Grzegorz Krychowiak, Augusto Fernandez, Bruno Soriano, and Roque Mesa have done wonders in La Liga. Saúl Ñíguez too but he can play any midfield postion and Vicente Iborra as well.
Kroos! Such a revelation at real, he really matured to world class there!
Ive been a defensive midfielder for all my career and never got any recognition until three years back when I was named as a captain in uni
Drg Sh nobody cares about you, we’re talking about the best in the world pal.😂
Ro Na fuck off with that negativity man
@@jddunn7676 you fuck off
U don't say.
Surprised at the showing of Dier when saying moving a CB who can pass into DM isn't the way to do things. Dier is a fantastic DM - Spurs game changed at the weekend when he moved forward
Congratulations on a well thought out, well laid out video. Shows you know the game.
Busquets he is a midfielding mastermind he is the sucess behind barca absolute genius
Casemiro. Aggression and good passing and good tackling with good in the air and goalscoring talent makes him perfect
center backs next! I love the way you broke this position and would love to see this for more videos 😁
I think u guys forgot the modern regista Pjanic⚽👌
I love the fact it was someone's specific job role to animate Florentino Perez's mouth.

Never seen such a detailed explanation of this much underrated role. Subscriber +1
Xabi alonso perfect def mid
Kante isn't really a DM, he's a box-to-box destroyer.
Vidal best DMF right now, and I really can't stress that enough.
Thank you Copa 90 for making this video as I play this position and it will help me be a better player
No one gonna mention Wijnaldum? His strength and balance is amazing, barely ever loses the ball and always seems to win it back
Dr Chuffnuts Not that defensive though
Dr Chuffnuts not fucking true nobhead
Dr Chuffnuts more of a cm
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Wijnaldum hahaha
He's not a DM though
I know I am late and nobody will probaby read this but you failed to mention two players!

Vidal is more a box to box than a defensive mid, bit either way he's nowadays the best imo
man was that informatic!
i learnt a lot then forgot everything!
that shows how great u were man!
kante will be a legend when sing to a big club
what makes a perfect defensive mid? being busquets.
if every kid watched kante casemiro Kroos and pirlo schweinsteiger and makelele at their peaks then we would have a golden generation
Casemiro??
i love kante but let's be honest verrati is the best
Definitely the most underrated position in football but if anyone would come close to being the perfect defensive midfielder for me it would be Xabi Alonso, he has everything - Vision, Technique, tackling, physicality, intelligence; he is simply complete and it's sad to see him retire at the end of the season

kante isn't a DM, he's a box-to-box destroyer
Busquets is mean too. The total package.
Moussa Dembele....Never lost when starts...
Great research! Great voice
Busquets is special.
really enjoyed this video

I LOOOOOOOOVE your videos !!!! Subscribed
Makalele is maybe the closest you can get to the perfect defensice midfielder
If Kante stays with Chelsea long term, the will become a major power. The lad's so good he virtually guarantees that.
And i would always pass to backs.I absolutley love engine to my thats the most beutiful style of play.

we want to see thi for every position this actually amazing
Xabi alonso the best defensive midfielder i ever saw.
Pause at 1:49. Look at the leg size difference.
Amazing video 👌🏽
Kante is a box to box player.
the answer is in the thumbnail
Can u do a vid like this but on the art of defending and every other position
Well... were i a manager, i want my defensive midfielder become 3rd center back that can cover cb if the cb is lured forward or sideways. And that can pass long balls accurately. And able to shoot from distance
While Kante runs all over the pitch, busquets reads the game so well he don't have to run or tackle lol
What about a Wanyama or Moussa Dembele sort of player? Also Dier was very good at cdm last season
M DC Yes really. Second place really. The only team in the epl with 3 defensive midfielders that close to rival the talent of kante.
Can you do video on how to become an effective winger n unpredictable at the same time?? Please....
Can you do the video about the Center forward "CF" please 🙏
Maybe this is why pogba is not playing well. Hes trying to be all of them at once.
A video about the perfect DM, mentioning three different types, yet you still managed to forget the perfect DM - Xabi freakin Alonso!
What Makes The Perfect Defensive Midfielder? Sergio Busquets.
BCN Raphi 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lahm when playing a CDM role.
BCN Raphi Casemiro is better
officialñich did you watch Spain vs France Kante and bosquets faced off and only one winner bosquets
officialñich lmao you don't know anything about Busquets then lol he's the best DM since years
I NEED THIS😂thanks.
Kante is stabbing France in the back by not playing well for them, right?
Motilal Motilal of course lol
Claude Makelele and Clarence Seedorf were the ultimate tanks, Kante can't even compare to those two
Combine pirlo kante and busquets for the perfect DM
im a cdm but i can play rb because im a cdm and i use strength against and i read the game so it's hard for attackers i have pace to so i also abuse that
Nurila Anderson nice keep playing like that and try to work on your one touch pass and player marking and you'll be good
Wrya thanks for the suggestion
Nurila Anderson Sure thing, I play as a box to box midfielder and always try improving my tackling and looking for the killer pass 🤗💙
Wrya and if u have a fast or big striker do more over the tops
Nurila Anderson Sure thing👌😉
You forgot Casemiro.. The guy is a beast
Kante has a bit more to his game than Makelele in that he also, at least at Leicester, uses his natural athleticism to add urgency to an attack and support a blistering counter. Make 1 of these for a centre back
Kante is only having his second great season and he's already ranked on top among players who have proved their consistency over many years. Then again, Copa90 made a smart move jumping in on the bandwagon, guaranteed views and likes.
Shout out to Ander Herrera
Why is Kante on the thumbnail and not busquets? Or Verratti or even Vidal ?
Edgar Gonzalez because he’s better than all of them
Ruben Neves will be the best deep lying playmaker in Europe next season watch!!
Millwall Joey so how well did that hold up?
different player. neves does more long balls and has less defensive contribution
I feel like fm17 missed his natural position he is seen as box to box, but i think that bwm is more accuracy
There was a player when you combine all this ingridients you get him and his name is Patrick Viera !
Aerial ability is important as well...
I saw what makes the best defensive midfielder and Busquets wasn't the thumbnail
toni afoke It was disappointing.
toni afoke although he is the perfect holding midfielder I hate him so much because of his rolling around and diving but he’s class. However it’s not like we haven’t seen a perfect holding midfielder in the prem. Carrick is one of the most underrated rate players in recent history.
What makes the perfect diver
I T A L I C S neymar
Ozil can be a good CDM too just look at his passing he can pass the ball anywhere and he is the mastermind of match analysis and he can tackle and act as a CDM put him alongside Xhaka in that CDM role for Arsenal free up Aaron Ramsey and we can use 2 strikers
Arsenal must follow a 3 5 2 formation with Holding Mustafi and Kosielny in back
Bellerin Ozil Ramsey Xhaka and Klosaniac in midfield
And Lacazette and Aubameyang as thier 2 strikers
That is a great way to work they can form triangles every where Ozil can built up attacks with his master passes and Ramsey can anchor passes in that Attack
carrick at his best.
Busquets was made for Barcelona/Spain national team. Put him on any other team and he won't succeed. He's strong enough to be a defensive midfielder for a team that does not have possession as much as Barca does and he's not creative enough to play an attacking role.
