Loved this video - I love how you shared all the prep before you SAIL AWAY (like what I did there?) and start your passage. Sending love & hugs to each of you! ❤🤗
If you want to add more solar, the Tula's sailing channel recently added flexible solar panels called "BougeRV Yuma Series CIGS panels". They are not made of silicon, but produce lots of electricity for their area.
Great video. I could feel the boat moving through the water. Damn I miss those days offshore. Well done crew. Your taking a big bite out of life each day.
Over the years I have noticed that all long distant cruisers practically need a threasher to clean their hulls. Would it be practical to wipe the hull(s) every two weeks or so to eliminate the arduous task of cleaning months of growth.
It really comes down to the anti fouling paint, location and time. Most good paints don’t need any cleaning for at least 4 months when it’s new. And then a light wipe down does the trick every 2-3 months. How long that lasts depends on where you are. After a while a gentle wipe does nothing even after just a few weeks. And even that takes a lot of time and effort so it’s tough to balance it. We’re VERY due for new bottom paint so we’re not a great example right now. But our paint required virtually nothing for the first year.
Thanks! I think they’re technically called adjustable actuators? They’re a bit old and not my favorite part of the system. It’s balanced so they aren’t taking any real weight typically but still. I’m looking to upgrade those soon. A nice pair of DC powered ones might be cool!
Really great to hear that the new solar setup is supplying your power needs and mostly eliminating the need to run generator using $5-6/gal diesel. Leaving St Martin when you did - your luck is still holding as far as storms, and assume you got far enough S to avoid Ernesto.
We went back and watched your videos with you playing the guitar and singing…. Off the cuff! You need to do more of that!!!
Thanks so much! We’ll probably have another stern concert coming up soon.
Hurry up and wait was most of my time spent in the British army
Haha...yeah, I think that's a common military theme!

Thanks Wanda! And yes, we definitely like what you did there! Lol
Love you guys! Safe travels. ❤
Thanks so much!
That’s a dirty scow!
UV damage. Impossible to avoid or clean off. Time to put some dinghy chaps over the whole thing.
Great to see you guys on a passage again! Beautiful scenery! Looking forward to seeing the conclusion and sharing a passage drink with you!
Thank you! Part 2 coming right up!
No…….
You guys can’t change your intro song, it’s you.
Oh , ok. I jumped to soon.
lol🤠
Lol…we wondered if that odd beginning would throw anybody!
@@SailAwayVlog it did….all good luv watching you guys….🤠
Time Lauren made some chaps for your tender, starting to look a little pale. Glad you’re moving though, any longer and you would have grown roots. 😂😂
It is indeed. The UV caught up with us. And we DID grow roots! That’s why it took so long to dig the anchor out!
Great to see you sailing again
Thanks!

Yeah, we’re planning to add 1200 watts of flexible on our bimini. We may be working with Renogy on that but still waiting to find out.

Thanks so much! We’re trying to do better about leaving some long sailing stretches in the videos without me yapping.
A beautiful sunset sail away, and some fun Rivers-cam footage. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Some peoples copper coat bottoms are doing well after several years.
Great video. What are those telescoping rods used to angle the panels?

@@SailAwayVlogGo to a car junk yard and get some off a wreaked SUV!

Indeed. It’s been a really nice change. And yea, we had a good plan for Ernesto. That should come up in a couple videos.
I like the new intro music ~ oops I guess I got ahead of myself !
Lol…you’re not the only the odd start caught off guard!
miss original intro song
It’s still there! Just did an odd beginning this time.
Boat is really coming together. That solar upgrade will pay dividends for years to come. We did something similar. I hate generators. Peace.
Thanks! Yeah, it’s been great. I sure like having the genny when I need it but hate leaning on it.
What happened to the like button?
hmmm...I don't know! Should still be there...
@@SailAwayVlog I think it's a bug with UA-cam, never mind, I'm still watching. 🤣
