I was so pissed to go into the massive back story of Roland, just when I started to get into Susannah, Eddie and Jake, but man Roland's past was so gripping to read. My favourite DT book.
the Mexican standoff with Cuthbert was one of the best parts of any Stephen king book iv read,I have never gotten so into a book as I did when I was reading that part
@@ryanoneal8480 I mean I respect your opinion I guess but I'm surprised anybody would think that, like the OP said it's easily one of King's most well written action scenes

I did enjoy this book but in the beginning I didn’t want it. I was just so interested in moving along with the ka-tet that I didn’t want to hear/read about Susan and his past but in the end I didn’t want to leave the past and Roland, Cuthbert and Alain. Lol
There is something so special about Wizard and Glass. That full taste of the first mission. The boys are far from home, and somethings not right out here. But they Gunslingers true, they proved it like those before them, and their fathers faces would be remembered, say true. And as you said, the young gunslingers mission is hardly a major focus, just a vehicle. Recently got back into reading and writing and I have been binging your book/meme videos, keep it up!
I love the world building and the descriptions of Hambry. It's been years since I read the dark tower, but yo this day I can close my eyes and vividly imagine the fields and forests and the quaint little town.
I love that part when alain, cuthbert and roland are cutting through people with the machine gun and cuthberts like “youre right these are hard calibers” so badass
Some people don’t like prequels, but I really enjoyed seeing this World through the eyes of young Roland, back when something made sense and civilization was still around
Couldn't agree more. I started this series when I was around 12, was 15 when I read this one and it definitely brought the tears at the end. Such a beautiful book and a great series that started my love for fantasy.
Haha I finished this one a week ago. I read through it like nobody's fucking business. I really enjoyed the romance between Roland and Susannah, and I actually cried a little at a specific scene lol.
I quit the dark tower because I got into the flashback section and was a little ticked off because it sidetrack from the beam... but you made me want to pick it back up and this time get through the whole series because I did enjoy The Drawing of the Three and The Wastelands!
@@claytonpaul4259 right now I am reading King’s books in chronological order my next book is Wizard and Glass I will hopefully finish the Tower books within the next year… or two lol 😂

Another fantastic review of this series. Its tragic that only 13k people have seen it. Wizard and glass in and one of my favorites out of the series. Long days and pleasant nights
First time I read Wizard and Glass as a teenager, I hated it. It was a total slog. I had just come off Wastelands with so much shit happening and emotional highs and action and quick pacing and intrigue! And now suddenly we're in this long, boring flashback that doesn't advance the story at all? Who cares about this pointless romance story?? I was so pissed at the time. I felt like I was being robbed of the story I wanted to hear about Roland, Eddie, Jake, and Suze. But on my second readthrough as an adult, I fell in love with the beautiful writing, the incredibly powerful and memorable characters, and the thick atmosphere. And you described the tragedy perfectly. I was able to appreciate the heaviness and inevitability of the what it was building to. To this day I can visualize The Drop, or the ancient oil field, or the Thinny canyon, in vivid detail. I can remember Susan's final moments and her last words as if I were there, and picture the faces of the Big Coffin hunters in their standoffs against Roland, Alain, and Cuthbert. I feel like I once lived in Mejis. It's now my favorite Dark Tower novel, and maybe the best Stephen King story period IMO. What an absolutely perfect novel.
Its not perfect story at all. It gets repetitive as hell, King even wrote the same chapter twice like he fired his editor. I agree on the atmosphere but the effect is lost quickly when the plot starts to meander around and things happens for no reason, like the mandate RHea gives to Susan under hypnosis like WTF??
Cannot agree more on your points. It was super good, but in the beginning I was so taken aback and felt the speed and energy and momentum of the previous books just take a big stop and slow down. But a beautiful story. Think Ill very much enjoy again on a reread of the series in a few years.
This book was my favourite of all but I really need to re-read them, I read The gunslinger about 3 times but then I forgot about them to read the rest again.
I knew it was going to be a long flashback and at first I thought I wasn’t going to like it because I wasn’t really a fan of the flashbacks in the gunslinger but I’ve read the first four chapters of the flash back stuff It’s better that the stuff from the gunslinger but I’m still not really a fan of it and I know it’s going to get better because the story is still being set up and it’s hard for me to enjoy a character being introduced like with the drawing of the three where the slowest parts for me were the introductions of the characters especially at the Susannah stuff which starts like the stand with constantly switching POV’s. There were also a few things that flew over my head in the first chapter of the flashback because I kept questioning who Rhea was and what was the magic orb she had
just finished it a few hours ago. i actually really loved this book! the ending was a bit lacking, but the vast majority of it was superb in my opinion. i'm jumping into insomnia this week. i hope i'm one of those people who love it hahaha
I read this book a month ago. Since then I've read Skeleton Crew, IT, Insomnia, and Low Men in Yellow Coats, Carrie, and am about halfway through The Talisman. I'm still thinking about Wizard and Glass.
When I got to the part where Rhea was so obsessed with the ball that she didn't eat or drink and pissed herself, I put down the book (the obsession) and went to the bathroom to pee, drank a whole glass of water and made myself a nice meal. I really felt called out. It was super eerie. But of course I picked the book up again immediately after I finished eating.
Good gosh what an amazing book review. Just finished this a few minutes ago and I agree with everything you said.. particularly that SK can write.. like really well.
Anyone else found the character of Cordelia even creepier that Rhea of the Cöos? I sure did. Also as soon as I read the name Cordelia I could not stop seeing the image of Cordelia from American Horror Story: Coven in my head. And at first I tried to push the image away, but then it really settled in. I think Sarah Poulson would play the role perfectly if they made a proper adaptation in the future.
The title of this novel should’ve been “The Dark Tower IV: Emotional Damage”. I am SPENT. I came into this one knowing it was going to deal with Roland’s backstory, but I didn’t expect close to 90% of the book to be said backstory. While jarring and momentum-killing at first, the story drew me in with its intrigue and suspense, and as I got deeper, the overarching doom that Reaping Day would bring was palpable. And my f***ing word, the doom was brought! Like Roland in a particularly brutal scene in the end of the book, I wanted to look away but couldn’t. I felt like I was staring into the glass myself…
