and the fact that the god drums end up just being a slowed down baseline from a ZZ Top song is like the cherry on top, it's hilariously morbid that an entire society formed an entire cult around bass speakers and sacrificing people to them
@@anthonyhenriques7654 “Jesus pumpkin-pie Christ, don’t you get it? You’re killing each other over a piece of music that was never even released as a single!
I enjoyed drawing of the three more than waste lands. The suspense, the twists, and variety of characters and development was fantastic. Also the wonder in the doors and worlds was so intriguing. Waste lands has man boring sections in it although still great
"A heap of broken images, where the sun beats, And the dead tree gives no shelter..." (T.S. Elliot, The Wasteland) - also it was used as an epigraph in Book 3 of the series.
I’m glad you loved this so much. I’ve come across very few people that like this book the most or even the most of the first 3. I kinda like your flashback/cliffhanger theory. That might be the case too. He prob didn’t assume there’d be a 6 year gap between books and a 12 year gap before the story picks back up.
It's a joy to see your journey through this incredible series. I read them back when the later ones were coming out new (started with The Drawing of the Three and then went back). Then, I taught The Gunslinger for a few years because it's just incredible. I will go out on a limb and say The Gunslinger is the best written of the series. I dunno, I'll have to reread the others and see.
Love your reviews of the series and am eager to see what you think about the ending. You could probably read A wind through the keyhole between book 4 and 5 since it’s basically book 4.5 but King wrote it years after finishing the main series. It’s a good read and I don’t remember it spoiling anything of the later books, however it’s also pretty much another Flashback story like wizard and glass (which was a plus for me). Also if you really like the world of the Dark tower and want more after finishing the series I can recommend Kings short story sisters of Eluria (I think that’s what it was called) and the comic series which is part adaptation of book 4 and part fleshing out Rolands backstory
Thanks! I'm really excited to read that oh so controversial ending that everyone alludes to. I've been debating whether to read WttKeyhole or Wolves next. Since I'm so eager for the story to go forward, I'll probably save WttKeyhole as a desert at the end of the series, a nice return to mid-world.
I am so grateful that all the books list already by the time I got into the series. I can imagine how terrible it must have been for OG Dark Tower fans 😭
A gripping story from cover to cover, The Waste Lands damn well blew my socks off! The first half of the book, from Shardik to the Drawing, was such an incredible build up and payoff that I was both visibly and audibly stunned by it, multiple times, throughout. Then came the insane second half and from River Crossing to Lud to The Cradle to the bonkers cliffhanger(!!!!!), I was at the edge of my seat with eyes that simply could not read the words on the page fast enough. The ka-tet had tugged at the deepest recesses of my heart - and the story and concepts, of my mind. I’m just so incredibly thankful that I don’t have to wait several YEARS to start Wizard and Glass, I need to know what happens next!
(just finished the waste lands) oy of mid-world is the best. also i just googled what bumblers are supposed to look like and dude. i need one. i need an oy in my life
Just finished this book an hour ago and I started on the next one literally about 30 minutes ago. I thoroughly enjoyed The Wastelands and *SPOILER* BLAINE IS TERRIFYING
After I finish the Dark Tower, I’m going to work my way back through the First Law trilogy, then start the Age of Madness. After that, I suppose I’ll start The Lies of Locke Lamora.
there's so much i forgot about this book. the ONLY thing i could remember was fuckin Blaine, which you mentioned. and i think it's because of what you said early on, which is that it didn't have the Stephen King off-to-the-races feeling.
Steve Reich's Different Trains should be used in the soundtrack to the film adaptation, if the film is ever made. Nice and eerie. Check the lyrics out too. They could easily be adjusted to fit the story. Like 'Blain is pain'. Some screams, idk. Edit: looked deeper into the subject matter of the song and came to the conclusion it would probably be a bit insensitive, or it might undermine it. Still, a similar, inspired suite would be cool.
The best? The whole first act is just backpeddling from the second book. Then the third act is a train that... Yeah, a fricken cliffhanger for no reason. Second act is pretty great though.
After writing the first part of The Waste Land Stephen King lost his magic; I did not like any of the other Tower books. Coincidentally, he also gave up drink and drugs at this time.
WotC will be your fav. Calling it!
Wish the climax was bigger and longer, but then it wouldn't have the zest it does. Still, could be my favourite. Can't decide.
I am both eager and terrified to start it. If it's as crazy as people are saying, then I think I'll love it, lol
@@ManCarryingThing i'm interested to know how you feel about Wizard & Glass, THAT'S my favorite.
also i genuinely cannot believe we have had a crossing of swords (if you will) in this way.
Imagine reading Wastelands in 1991 and having to wait until 1997 for the ending, major cojones from King.
I don't have to imagine. lol (I am old.)
The only advantage of being born when the series was almost finished lol
Imagine you read “The Gunslinger” in 1982 … and it takes 15 years for the 3rd book to come out in 1997 . Been there … did that ! ✍️😳👍
It me. Finished The Waste Lands in '93. But I got to sprint the first 3 novels, so I'm lucky.
The book cover inconsistency bugged me too. Blain the mono...not the steam engine. Also, totally agree that Oy is the best character ever!
My favorite part of the Wastelands was the big speakers in lud where the sound of god drums made hanging corpses vibrate
and the fact that the god drums end up just being a slowed down baseline from a ZZ Top song is like the cherry on top, it's hilariously morbid that an entire society formed an entire cult around bass speakers and sacrificing people to them

The Stand looms ever-present
Me after the opening: “Well... you’re welcome? Also fuck you too.” 😂
I enjoyed drawing of the three more than waste lands. The suspense, the twists, and variety of characters and development was fantastic. Also the wonder in the doors and worlds was so intriguing. Waste lands has man boring sections in it although still great
Awesome summary, and yes...
We all were crying 'show us the train'!
Thanks! Blaine does NOT disappoint.
Roland to me is the best character, never seen him as a "bad guy" more of a traumatized man that is focused on accomplishing a goal
You're doing an amazing job with these reviews. You're making me want to re-do the whole series and review it 😂
Thanks! You totally should -- i'm sure i'll want to reread them in a couple years too

You honestly have the best content!
Haha thank you!
Blaines a pain and that’s the truth
I scrolled 20 times, not one person mentioned Shardik, shame on you all
They have forgotten the face of their fathers.
The scene where Susannah is on Roland’s shoulders aiming the revolver at Shardik…amazing.

Every Wednesday and Saturday are the best due to your content!!
Thank you! That is so nice
W&G is definitely my favourite. They're all fantastic though.
Blain the mono is probably my favorite character in the series. That whole series events was so funny and intense.

BLAINE IS TERRIFYING
Hahaa yes he is. And the build up and anticipation makes it all that more scary
I always imagined Bumblers as groundhogs sorta, but maybe they’re more like Pacaranas. I really enjoy these videos of you in your dark tower journey
Have you read the stand? Strongly considering that after I finish the series
I dont care if Roland ever lets the kid fall again, just let Oy out of the fucking danger zone
Am about 500 pg into wolves of calla and am scared to end the series. What do I read after this? Considering some sci-fi but love the fantasy epic.

Just looked up Different Trains and I have to say thanks for introducing me to it. Really amazing. Reminds me of Philip Glass and I LOVE Philip Glass.
This one's my favorite.
Interesting because the third and fifth are my least favourites 🤷🏻♂️ Love these videos man!

personally hated this book. it just rubbed me the wrong way.
Interesting, seems like a fan favorite. Then again it's also pretty different from the first two books
