Tens of thousands of Georgians work in the Russian Federation. Hundreds more have business connections there. Because this sector of society and those they are allied to chose, democratically, to pursue a course of non-hostile relations with Russia doesn't mean Georgia is a 'puppet' of Russia currently. The pro-Western, urban group isn't the whole country.

Pretty good video, here are some things I wish you added:
    1. You should have elaborated more on what happened in Adjara
    2. You also should have elaborated more on why Saakashvili lost in 2012, it isn't that black and white.
    3. About the Yanukovich moment, if you ask most Georgians they would say that the "Gavrilov night" would be a more apt moment. The government ditching the EU deal was bad but Saakashvilis party was boycotting it so it wasn't seen as that unsurprising.

As a disclaimer and due to lack of research on my part, this is merely just my educated guess@@papapeethehunks
My guess is that its due to Adjaria merely wanting autonomy which it was granted leading to more friendly initial relations between the central government and Adjara. Also the factor of Russia not being on the border of Adjara also possibly influenced its decision to remain part of Georgia, as it had no direct land based connections with Russia unlike Abkhazia and South Ossetia. There is also the factor (take this with a grain of salt) of the possibility that the Adjarans never had their own state of any kind, where as the Ossetians have ties to the unruly Caucasus which for a long time remained uncontrolled by big empires, while Abkhazia in the past was an independent kingdom that ended up as on part of Georgia.

Georgian troops attacked South Ossetia, 1,500 Tskhinvali civilians and dozens of Russian peacekeepers were killed overnight.

Good balanced report. Russia's provocation of Georgia with its claims of genocide after it irdered ethnic cleansing was cold logic allowing it to prevent Georgia from gaining acces to NATO at a time where both Ukraine and Georgia were real candidates. The fact that over 15 years later neither have gained access to NATO protection and that Russia is in direct control of parts of both nation's sovereign territories is no accident and it is shameful that the West was so "brain dead" for so long. We should have crimped Russia's imperialist ambitions earlier so as to lessen the conflict later. A stitch in time saves nine. But that is hindsight and it would gave required clarity of purpose which Obama almost never displayed.

I've thought from the beginning of this war that we ought to heavily-arm the Georgians and try to get them to open up a second front against Russia; they could drive the occupiers out of their captured lands of South Ossetia as well. This would accelerate the collapse of Putin's Russia and divide its incompetent forces even further. If the time had to come, both Ukraine and Georgia could push into Russia itself, but I don't think that's part of the plan.

The fact that the US did nothing the support the reforming emerging democracy, nothing at all, was a fatal mistake. This has convinced Putin that the US will not do anything to stand in the way of his imperialist ambitions.

Georgia has no importance or financial interest to the west. I'm sure every invasion since the 1990's have showcased this:
      1. Kuwait
      2. Breakup of Yugoslavia (initially stepped away after the killing of civilians was so bad. They had to do something to save face)
      3. Afghanistan to give them a sense of winning the war on terror. Moreover to fund their military complex. To search for resources as much has not been done in the modern era. It turned belly up, then they knew the Ukraine war was coming up.
Iraq. Everybody knows what went on there
Ukraine: There have been geological surveys to support natural gas reserves in the country. Why let the country fall into Russian influence when our corporations can make good in a huge agricultural sector, resource extraction & rebuilding the country in the image of Japan or South Korea.
      Countries ignored
      Rwanda
      Burundi
      Zimbabwe
      DRC
West Africa (Under French influence historically Wagner has infiltrated now)
      Myanmar
      Pakistan
There are maybe a few I missed. My apologies.
The narrative is so extremely nuanced, for example Pakistan is ostensibly during the Cold War & pax Americanus a loyal ally. They trained Taliban fighters to infiltrate Afghanistan to regain control. They have been found to sponsor certain insurgent groups. American weapons supplied to Pakistan were used in terrorist attacks.
I hope you guys can read between the lines.

Not sure if the west ´´Ditched´´ Georgia.
That a´s a simplistic way of looking at it.
The EU is looking at Georgia´s development phases politically and socially and see if Georgia can stabilize towards a fair democracy so they are able to get EU perspective and further EU integration.
The reason why Europe isn´t interfering with Georgian politics and Georgian problems is rather simple.
Should the EU meddle in Georgian affairs then it means that the west gets blamed for sticking its nose other´s business.
But we all know even if the west is reluctant to help foreign countries in need, the EU or the west always gets blamed, you´re damned if you do you´re damned if you dont.
And it seems the problems in Georgia should not be EU´s problems.
If Georgia decides to go with Russia then Georgia is more then welcome to do so, but that also means no more talks with the EU or any relations with the west.
      Its that simple.
People tend to blame the west for everything, but as soon as the west nowhere to be seen, then the west gets more blame heading its way.
However, it seems that Ukraine fairs a hell lot better the Georgia.

As a Georgian, I'd like to express my gratitude for creating this insightful video analysis. I want to emphasize that, despite attempting to present itself as pro-western, the Georgian Dream Party is, in fact, aligned with Kremlin interests, which contrasts with its self-proclaimed stance. in 2019 the government used brute force against its citizens to protect Ruzzian politicians in Tbilisi. Some youngsters lost their sight because of that Gavrilov's night.
Furthermore, a significant majority of Georgians - according to polls, about 85% - hold pro-western views and identify themselves as part of the European community. Staunch pro-European views are very tangible in the people and you can easily notice if you live in this country. Therefore, any political actions that deviate from this trajectory are seen as a betrayal of Georgia's sovereignty and independence. Embracing a pro-European stance entails safeguarding Georgia's chosen path of development. The Georgian people are determined in upholding their nation's territorial integrity and its commitment to a pro-western political direction, which is rooted not only in contemporary politics but also in historical aspirations.

      For three reasons:
      1. Elections are held in an unequal and violent environment (the regime is moving towards autocracy);
      2. The population is so impoverished and the number of civil servants is so inflated that this part of the population is practically on state subsidies. And they vote for the government, regardless of what their real political vision is;
      3. National minorities always support the ruling party. Their number is 10%
And one more thing: the electoral system was arranged in such a way that the official parties always got the majority. You could have received 40% in the proportional part, but still, you would have found yourself in the constitutional majority.

This is not a video about history of Georgia, but I'll just add just as an information that Georgian states existed far earlier than the Romans or Persians even got to the outskirts of the Caucasus.
Adjara was inhabited by Georgians, it wasn't situation of an ethnic minority, it was situation of a religious minority. But truth is that it was the Ottomans' plan, they demanded Adjara to get autonomy in their negotiations, at first glance it was for defense of these Muslim Georgians, but in reality it was just a plan to sooner or later have casus belli to attack and annex Adjara, but after 70 years of USSR this plan was never initiated.
Saakashvili even though I really don't like him, didn't escalate anything. Russians were constantly shooting towards Georgians for months before Georgia even answered. A few hours before Georgia started bombardment, Saakashvili asked for peace talks and it was first accepted by Russia and it was broken within a few hours, Georgia didn't really have any other options, this war would happen regardless of what Saakashvili or Georgia would do, just like in Ukraine 2022.
Ivanishvili is just a Russian Oligarch, while I acknowledge that the West has been spineless in regards to Georgia, was it in 2008 or legitimizitation of Ivanishvili's government again and again. This also comes with a mass propaganda from Russia that is supported by Georgian Dream and its use for their interests, the lack of general education in Georgian society also doesn't help, situation seems devastating, and if Georgian Dream wins again 2024 I don't think Georgia's future will be bright.

The war was totally idiotic and it's good that traitor of Georgia was treated by Georgian people as he was.
He ensured absolute hate of Georgia by people of both separatist regions.
What are Georgian plans, maybe a little genocide to clear "your" land?

The Ossetians and Abkhazians have their own side of the story which is published around their own articles and websites. They don't view themselves as Georgians, but I get it "self-determination for me but not for thee." You can try to blame Russia as much as you want but countless Western sources have already said through investigation like this report from DW, "According to the report." carried out by Swiss diplomat Heidi Tagliavini and presented to the European Union on Wednesday, there is no evidence to support Georgia's claim that Russia had already sent troops to annex South Ossetia before Georgia began its attack on the region's capital Tskhinvali on the night of August 7/8 2008.
"There was no ongoing armed attack by Russia before the start of the Georgian operation," the report said. "There is the question of whether the use of force by Georgia in South Ossetia ... was justifiable under international law. It was not."

hei dude get your facts straight what armenians ? when was Georgia part of armenia? maybe other way around a lot you might have missed on some crucial bit of info regarding the 2008 nato summit and treacherous actions by the germans and french which as it seems was vital for ruzzian aggressions of the few years

Georgia belonged to the Armenian kingdom/Empire back when the Iberian Kingdom (before the first Gerogian Kingdom formed from the union of Iberia and Abkhazia) was a subject of Armenia and as such it was a part of the Armenian empire, like how Afghanistan was part of the British empire between the second British-Afghan war and the Afghan revolution.
It would have been preferable to write this in more detail, though tonkeep the video's focus on the modern day required for this to be summarised as part of explaining how Georgia was at one point under the Armenians.

As Russian I am grateful to our Georgian brothers, who helped us to break thru criminal western sanctions and import many goods and weapons. Together we stand against horrible Western imperialism and we will win for sure. Georgia always got much more from Russia then from EU and they are on the right side of history now.
