I’ve kick started Harleys for 50 years now. Sportsters, panheads, shovelheads. If you have to kick this much, your bike is not tuned correctly. Jet carb correctly, keep in tune, learn your bike. It will start within 2 or 3 kicks guaranteed.
Yoo, my uncle owns a Harley shovelhead and used to start it in a single kick, when i showed him this clip he called the guy a wimp. He also said that back in the days of kick started bikes starting the bike in a single attempt was something to brag about or something along that lines. Plus it also ment that the bike is in good shape.
I'm not sure what's going on there. It only takes me about 2 to 3 kicks to get my dad's 51 pan head primed and 1 kick with the ignition on to start it. Which also requires turning the left grip to retard the spark. Because if you don't, the bike can kick you back. Breaking your leg and throwing you over the handle bars. Cool fact, my dad bought his 1951 74 FL Pan Head Hydra Glide in 1951 when he was 17. He's 86 now, and still has it.
Yeah I have a ‘64 triumph 650 that had a magneto put on back in the 90’s. Thing is that ignition also gets rid of the automatic advance, and without a way to control the timing easily, to get decent power from it it has to be set at full advance all the time. Meaning if you don’t kick it like your life depends on it, you’ll have a bad leg for a week at best.
damn thats so cool. I bought a 2022 motorcycle back in January this year but in march I got rear ended by some idiot on their phone. To this day I'm still waiting for any info from the insurance company but it's going to be a total loss and scrapped. 70 year old bike to a 3 month old bike the difference is insane sometimes.
that killed me hahaha imagine this group of people and you continously kicking that bike with sweat comin all around your face thinking "it took me one kick to start it in the garage and look at it now"
Theres a hilarious video of keanu reeves starting his bike after some lady accidentally backed into it and knocked it over. Everyone is not only staring at him but shouting at him to try various things as he tries to get it started, still only took a minute or so though
This is a beautiful bike. Loads of personality. I was going to go for a ride, but I'm exhausted. I take mine with electric start. Love the Shovelheads.
Nice ride. Dig the kickstart. Most people today need instant gratification. Quick start. Starting a bike like this and riding it is a whole different level very cool.
Glad to know you enjoy! My Father love to custom my Harleys with me before…… I have a 79 FXEF 10 years ago, and both my shovel are having electric starter. You might own a custom Harley with kick only! Last week I had fixed the kick timing and could be start in 3 kick now. What a Kool machine !
I had an ‘84 shovel low-rider, drag pipes, always start 2-3rd kick, loved that bike. Newer Harley’s not so much, too refined, dealers are asshats, the golden days of HD are long gone.
Damn...thats painful to watch. I still got an '81 Harley Lowrider i bought wrecked in 1985. Fixed it ,put an S&S carb on it and solid lifters. Electric starter went out within six months, and i have kicked it ever since. just never fixed the starter....Left knee on the seat, kick with right leg.....starts first kick ever time.
My dad's 81 shovelhead usually starts first kick if not the second for sure. Been parked a couple yearn now for bad head gaskets, ready to get the old girl out and let her sing.
ahh 80 cubes music to my ears. brings back memories of my old lowrider. i ran a 45mm weber and 2 into 1 exhaust with some head work and some tuning. thanks for showing your sweet shovel man.
My shovel was pretty persnickety. It took about five or six kicks with the switch off and then a couple with the choke full on, one or two without and then she would fire every time. Change the procedure or not show the proper respect and you might as well go back in the house and have a cup of coffee. Give the dude some slack, he knows his bike better than the peanut gallery watching.
I had a 74 shovel it was a pain in the ass the 1st start of the day but after that it was good. It was just a finicky bike no matter what you tryed doing to it never help. I'm with you on the peanut gallery lol I always used my left leg I got more on it that way than straddling it that was awkward for me course only weigh 150 pounds
I once had a Triumph Bonneville that was kick start only, man that was hard work until I changed the fuel to 91ron and learnt how to start it.......these days its press that starter button and off I go

I’ve always loved the look of a kick start. And Damn is that a beautiful bike. But what a pain in the ass. It would be worth it though. Part of the experience of riding a 40 year old Harley.
the tune is everything,if its cold, dead cold,it needs a rich mixture to start,if its hot, shut gas off, kick it thru, half throttle it'll light,if not, tune the bitch, one backfire you're over the rainbow,i own three of these and they all are in tune, gotta be that way
+Max Lam hope to ride with u back home one day. i would love to visit Kowloon Tong Yau Yat Chuan area. near the Kowloon Train station to ShengZhen. tats where i used to stay 17yrs ago
I was an owner of an 1974 AMF Harley Davidson Sportster iron head. And usually if you didn't start it up within 3-5 kicks forget it. I only kept this model for 4 1/2 yrs and sold it too much maintenance and hurting my right leg.
I had a 76 xlch a few years ago that was a kick start and I'm not very big so is always a little bit tough to start I wish you would have been around back then.
I loved mine but don't miss those days of kicking! Mine would usually go on the third or fourth but still beat the shit out of my knees. Now over 60 years of riding I like my little black button.
You got that right,I have an 82 rigid, wide glide shovel.2 kicks when cold,1st choked ignition off,2nd,ignition on,almost always fired on 2nd kick after 2 shots of throttle.Rode that bike for 12 years.96" stroker, rigid frame. Was alway"s asked how can your back take it?Ya gotta know how to relax your body, the 1st week after I built it was hard, after that,no problem and I rode far more than most. The other thing that gets me is how hard they make it look to kick start a Harley,I never had to stand off to the side and come down on it with everything I had!(That"s all drama).I'm not a big guy.
Check out new clip : ua-cam.com/video/hxEeQ8xvJw8/v-deo.html
she seems to like that SU carb a little better than the S&S huh? "tickle tickle give her the gas"

Yep, I went to a Harley cv carb, 2 or 3 kicks at the most on my superglide. That’s a super nice looking bike though.
Yep, that.....
Exactly.........
That and catching the front can on the compression stroke.
Poor dude made me knee hurt.
I dont use feet to kick start, i use my hand 😂
Some say he is still kickstarting it
Mark yea, I m still kicking
@@maxlam228 omg lmao
Lamo good one
Dude is gonna hurt himself
You should start a Kickerstarter for a new bike.
Imagine trying to hurry up and get away from the cops 😂
police: harley kickstarter...? No problem, then we have enough time to buy donnuts.
If you know how to kick, and your bike is tuned correctly, theres no reason why it should take more than 2 or 3 kicks.
Bump start at that point
Or from your wife 😂

That's fine. Then you can leave 5 hours earlier.
Wtf, its holiday, dont u have somewhere to go to?? Well i guess u still have 5 more hours to do
The thumbnail made me think that he was literally gonna kick the bike to.start it

lol
Lmao🤣🤣🤣

Should say "Kicking a Harley that won't start" .
I’d pay money to watch this dude try to start this bike every morning 😂😂😂
Send me now !! hahahaha
this is why we are fat now... we need to bring kick starting back...
Agree with you ! Hahahhaha
Alright then, I'm gonna buy one of those kick kits for Evo Sportsters and start working off my excess kilos...
@MILO BROWN 68 is not a panhead

That is awesome! Bought my first Harley, an fxdx at 18 years old. Sounds like you have a cool bike, hope you ride it!
I was broken my right hip bone in a car accident before, that's why i can't use my right leg......
Its how I kick mine.
God bless the dude that came up with electric starters.
he's dead now
no...
I still think kicking a bike is the coolest shit.. Nice bike man..
lol , when there no one looking , imagine u're late for work and that damn bike wont start ...........

Nah, fuck that, I got bad knees. LOL It sounded like a beast one he got it started.
Awesome. I love the flying right leg. Makes me appreciate the simpler things in life. Like a push button start.
to all you kickers after 26 years of kicking on a 76 electraglide without the electra that magic button is sweet.
I'm with you on that. After almost 50 yrs kicki. Didn't have a button till a few years ago. Now my 59/61/65 Frankensteiner is my favorite ride.
76 Electraglide had electric start also just hit the button
Amen brother. 76 FX . I'm guessing my right hip will need to be replaced in a few years. I too added an electric leg.
This is a beautiful bike. Loads of personality. I was going to go for a ride, but I'm exhausted. I take mine with electric start. Love the Shovelheads.
Kick start, the ultimate anti theft device. Beautiful bike man! 👍
i know you don't wanna see a guy jumping so just play it from 1:16
Worth the wait...
It’s good to have a kick start !!!!especially if your battery goes dead !!!!

F48 FILMS you got the main point of enjoyment on bikes!
Thnx, that was hilarious
Just showing the fact
Maybe if he would kick with the correct foot the damn thing would fire
Read the description. His right hip is messed up after an accident
That's fine, but a lot of guys kick with the wrong foot. It's goofy and awkward...

He's overseas somewhere looking at his plate. In Merica the right leg is the right/proper leg.
That ain't got shit to do with it. Not tuned right. Cold start. Choke on ignition off first couple of kicks. Then ignition on.
Worth it, i love kickstarters

Here we have a beautiful motorcycle. Starts 20th time, everytime
Probably still has the stock electronic ignition in it. I know because my 81 was a bear to Kickstart until I put in the dyna s ignition.
