When buying furniture for this home I ordered a red couch, solid red. It's a nice deep red color, not tomato red. My Aunt kept telling me to get a beige couch and add red pillows. Everything in her house was beige. I hate the color beige, LOL. It's been 15 years and I still love my red couch. I have 3 throw pillows on it and I like to change the pillow covers with the season. Right now the pillows have sunflowers on them but will soon migrate to more fallish colors and patterns when the weather cools down.
I actually LOVE the floor lamp. It has a cool sculptural mid century vibe. I went to the website immediately and it's not made of paper but a stretch fabric. I wouldn't do a paper lamp either so I do agree on that but for me lamps are a great way of bringing something more artistic into your home and I found this one quite interesting. Unfortunately it's not available but I have my eye on it.
I wish I knew how to add a photo of how amazing the blue SPÖKSÄCKMAL cushion looks on the white boucle chair in front of the dark blue Sanela curtains in my monochromatic blue and white bedroom. The feel is also gorgeous. I must say I found Valentina's retching noises over something I chose and love a little much. I realize that the increasingly intense mugging and hysterical laughter is a bid for more UA-cam attention, but honestly, I am tending to watch other designers who don't come across as so desperate that they feel the need to disparage anyone who enjoys things they don't, like, say, the colors red and blue, and "small books."
South african over here!🙋♀️ fun fact: the Protea flower is our national flower😃. It is actually a very beautiful flower. But I have to agree with you Valentina, dried flower just do not give a sense of "life" in the house. But the protea flower dries a bit differently than the way IKEA portray it. Thank you for your content! Love and blessings from South Africa❤
I also wanted to tell her. In USA , they are grown in California and are a gorgeous flower. I have actually placed them in wedding bouquets which were a huge hit. The way IKEA has them I wouldn’t buy those if you paid me. She needs to see these in person.
Hi Valentina, Happy Sunday! We have a very long living room in our Cape Cod style house, and with an asymmetrically laid out footprint and a fireplace on the left end of the room, we have a custom loomed very large oval rug and matching a large round rug on the end of the room with the fire place. Both rugs are braided beige and pale gray tweedy braid, and works perfectly in our odd space, since another feature of our room is oak pegged flooring, that we do not want to completely cover, because it is beautiful. The rest of the room is not matchy-poo, but the rugs work in our space. I disagree that all round rugs should be avoided. Braided round and oval rugs work well in Colonial or Cape Cod homes.
The Spoksacmal reminds me of the fuzzy toilet lid covers with matching rugs that fitted around the toilet base that was popular in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
😂 We have had the Niels Gammelgaard chair in chroom for about 30 years very comfy. I can imagine could be difficult for small people to sit on it 😂😂😂😂hahaha
It depends if you are into traditional furniture. I like to mix, but with us all living mostly in smaller spaces big arms take up a lot of space, slim ones don’t.
I picked the hydrangea flowers yesterday, and I only had 2 flowers, but it still worked out pretty well. I'm in love with how it came out. What I love about hydrangea is that the leaves are so vibrant ❤
Valentina always assumes it’s a primary home. I have vacation homes. I rent them for various months during the year. No one is going to water and change flowers. Faux flowers create color and texture. They need to be washed for dust occasionally. She has wonderful ideas. They work for her. Different places and different home have a vibe. Go with your vibe. In Kauai beautiful blue hydrangeas grew in the mountains. Embrace your memories. Your mom’s garden. Whatever it is that the hydrangeas evoke.
Your chair story from your chair in Denmark reminded me of my 2 Wassily Chairs I bought to go with my leather sofa. No one would sit in them, said they were hard on the back of the knees and so uncomfortable and hard to get out of. I eventually sold them to a person for their office reception. Never again.
I couldn't agree more . I don't like dried flowers. I'm not a fan of blue and yellow either, especially that shade of blue . those drapes were hideous.😮
Valentina, you're being harsh tonight! I do colorful rugs, but they are all Persian or kelim. Guess those strong rugs would look good in a kids bedroom. 🙂 With a lot of legos on them! I actually had that chair in my childhood bedroom, back in 1982! 😂 I dont remember if it was comfortable or not.. Liked the red sofa too, but it is not for me.. I like my offwhite sofa..
I like to try to envision the red couches in your living room with your black velvet pillows on them. Two of the uncomfortable chairs with small furs on them where the ottomans are. The corner paper lamp where your plant is…haha…I just know you would make it work and look elegant 😃!!
Hygge...ja! Valley Girl...nein! But do appreciate sharing your Trial/Error/Evolution over the years. Changing perspectives over time always interesting.
Don’t worry everyone. We are celebrating our 80th anniversary at IKEA by bringing back some oldies but goodies in some bright colors. We still have to classic colors. 😎
You are so talented Valentina! The problem with your videos is that you are focusing so much to praise the black and white that when I hear your comments on videos I feel you are calling all the rest of us tasteless just because we like colour and you dont. This is such a pity you are reducing your audience so much by hating colours.
I think it’s sad because everyone has different likes I rather her just show us her likes only and not her dislikes because everyone’s can’t afford expensive things
The whole point of designers is that they have an opinion and vision. They are not meant to like everything. It’s just her opinion. You shouldn’t need her or anyone else to validate your taste. Buy what you like. Take anything you find useful and leave the rest. I’d hate if she didn’t give her full opinion and I respect that she gives her full opinion good and bad.
@@misa5941completely agree. Maybe this isn't the channel for those who don't like her content. Not everything is for everybody. And saying this with kindness, not to be snarky. Valentina's info on color has actually helped me understand some of the decorating decisions I've made that I haven't liked. My style is more rustic and I don't always care for some of the more modern pieces shown, however, it helps me to get the vision of the general idea or tip she's giving.
Aw Valentina thanks for voicing your opinion. I guess people want to express theirs too lol. I do love black n white but I love a little bit of colour too 😂 agree about the dried flowers too
We have an Ektorp (precursor to Uppland), and I’m still a little bitter ikea discontinued it because the whole point is being able to wash and swap out covers. Now I can’t find an affordable cover for it. I had to spend extra on Etsy for lower quality fabric. We’ve always used a solid color for the covers… a light oatmeal color, never dark. I do like the rolled arms, but I’ve always been more cottage-y and traditional in style.
TLDR: dont buy anything that's not white, cream, tan or black? Dont buy things that are patterened; don't buy floral patterns or paper flowers or lamps made of paper. I'm sure this stuff is perfect for someone's aesthetic even if its not yours.
Love straight-arm sofas... BUT you'll have to pull my leather Chesterfields out of my cold, dead hands. LOL. THAT's how you do the rolled-arm look. Not that appalling patterned piece you justly put on this list. LOL
The Skalboda is actually ergonomic than most chairs. Ive been sitting for hours on this and it just cradles your body. It of course might be different for you. Must be too small for your size.
Guess I'm committing a Valentina sin by having a Vonsbäk dark navy blue rug in my livingroom :) But all my furniture is white or light gray and my floors are an orange/gold wood. I needed some contrast and I love navy blue! (In fact my bedroom has a lot of navy blue, too.) I think it looks great, but I guess context helps too. If I had a choice in my flooring (which I don't as I live in an apartment), I would have a more subtle wood, or even a darker wood; then I would go with a light colored rug.
Such a fun video!!!! I have to ask, where did you find the black table lamp with the round white shade on the sofa table behind you? I love it sooooooo much!!
Just a little history on the Uppland Sofa... The Uppland is a replacement for Ikea's most beloved Extorp Sofa. The Uppland is a bit larger than the Extorp and I suspect the upgrade was created as a result of customer's requests. We have a bonus room just outside our bedroom and we have chosen the Uppland Sectional because we wanted a costal retreat. A sophisticated room to remind us of our time spent in Long Island. We took our inspiration from the movie Something's Got to Give. So a rolled arm sofa was exactly what we were looking. The Uppland line at Ikea is a dupe of the Pottery Barn sofa but way more affordable. The pattern that was featured in this video is absolutely hideous. However, we would have purchased it because we wanted the sofa knowing that we could purchase a white slipcover at a later date. This sofa along with it's various slipcovers are in high demand at Ikea and is often out of stock. We love❤❤ Valentina's style, however, our color pallet falls in the warm earth tone area. So a costal/beach inspired room is a refreshing change for us. We are lucky to live between two Ikeas and was able to get our sectional in their as-is section for a much lower price. It was a light grey color which did not match our color pallet, but we purchased a white slipcover at a later date. Oh, and the slipcovers are machine washable!❤❤
I really wish they had also kept the Ektorp. It was plenty big for our family, and the Uppland is too big for our living room. I’m short, and the Ektorp is perfect height, too. But the worst betrayal was that they stopped selling the covers… right when we were ready for a new cover, we couldn’t get one - and the covers were our main reason for buying in the first place!! Anyway, all that aside, we do love the style and comfort factor as well as washability. We’ve always stuck with solid, lighter colors. It’s a nice couch.
Our Ektorp (same as Uppland, just smaller) has great foam cushions. It looks and feels brand new 7 years later and the cover is washable, adding to the newness factor.
I love Black in clothing and cars but not on my walls. It’s a scary and very depressing color. Black on the walls needs to stay down in the dungeons. 😂😅😂
I'm sorry but there is nothing that says fall about your living room except the fire, I guess. It's OK to stray from your beige and black once in a while. There really isn't much decorating involved when you simply pick everything off-white and black IMO.
I’m in the Reno/Tahoe area. The nearest Ikea is in Sacramento, CA. It will be easy for me to avoid these things. Oh. I tried a dark rug once in my 14 foot tall ceiling room. It immediately made the room look shorter. It was weird! It was on the floor for about 30 seconds before I rolled it up!

Joyce is smart! Make your home a place you love, not what others think. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love my deep rich red sofa and loveseat after about 18 years! Yes, switching out pillows or pillow covers keeps it fun and fresh.
We get your point. Overdramatic!
And that f ing laugh! I think this is my last try , it’s getting worst and worst . Have fun with black and white everything people!
Oh Valentina your decor style are black and white simple and easy to find.I love your style ,but I also love other neutral colors.
I actually LOVE the floor lamp. It has a cool sculptural mid century vibe. I went to the website immediately and it's not made of paper but a stretch fabric. Miss V, your chair commentary gave me a much needed laugh. With all the chaos in the world you are a delightful diversion. Thank you.
What happened to your new coffee table that you put in your living room?
Maybe the videos are out of order?
Exactly what I thought!!!
She’s not going to keep that in there. Probably use it on a job.
Hi Valentina, Happy Sunday! I appreciate your personal choices. We Totally have a dark rug in our ski home. Cozy, warm and prefect.

😂 We have had the Niels Gammelgaard chair in chroom for about 30 years very comfy. I can imagine could be difficult for small people to sit on it 😂😂😂😂hahaha
I think round arm sofa’s are timeless. Not everyone likes contemporary furniture or decorating. 😊
It depends if you are into traditional furniture. I like to mix, but with us all living mostly in smaller spaces big arms take up a lot of space, slim ones don’t.
Valentina! 😍 Your hair is beautiful! 🤩 I loved this video! You had me cracking up! 😂
The first few things were fine items that i could definitely place in a home. Dark blue curtains and rug, you just need the right space for them
I picked the hydrangea flowers yesterday, and I only had 2 flowers, but it still worked out pretty well. I'm in love with how it came out. What I love about hydrangea is that the leaves are so vibrant ❤

The issue with all of the IKEA sofa's are that they are so low to the ground, you may as well be sitting on the floor 😬
I love my Kivik sofa😄
Completely agree
We love our Uppland Sectional and it sit up at regular sofa height.❤❤❤
I have the Farlov sofa and it is not low to the ground. Unfortunately no longer available.
That red sofa! Horrors! That picture can also be called a WARNING SHOT! 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😁❤️
I couldn't agree more .
I don't like dried flowers.

To fix the sofa height all you have to do is change the legs😊
You didn't keep the wood coffee table
I prefer it over the marble
Cookie Monster, Rainbow Brite and Holly Hobby, haha! Thank you for the trip down Gen X/Millennial childhood lane 😆
Love the hair! So current:-).
Thank you!!
I was surprised about the comments on faux flowers since in another video you were promoting some faux flowers. That felt a little deceiving.
That had me scratching my head as well.
Please tell me about your couch. I love it.
I like to try to envision the red couches in your living room with your black velvet pillows on them. Two of the uncomfortable chairs with small furs on them where the ottomans are. The corner paper lamp where your plant is…haha…I just know you would make it work and look elegant 😃!!
The chair. 😂

You would HATE my house 😂 I still enjoy your videos though

Why isn’t it ok not to agree ! She wants the input. Right?
Would you get the Finnala as a sleep sofa? Honestly, is there a good sleep sofa on this planet? I actually need one. Happy Sunday!
Fun video! You look amazing and i love your new hairstyle! May i ask where your sweater is from? It's beautiful!
Aw Valentina thanks for voicing your opinion. I guess people want to express theirs too lol. I do love black n white but I love a little bit of colour too 😂 agree about the dried flowers too

Good one. Had fun,.
Thanks.
Where is your sweater from? Love it! 🖤
I have some foliage from IKEA the Eucalyptus 😅
You are so funny. Love your comments😂
Yep, there isn't anything on this list that I would think, "well now, wait a minute!" Ikea offers so many better products than these! Good call...
😮Omgeee you are such a bad girlie. I am dying!
😂😂😂

That was brilliant! Had such a good laugh. Thanks V 😘
It's 88°f today, I don't want anything to make it feel warm and cozy, because it's still like summer 🌞😎🌞😎🌞
She would just buy everything black and white. Discard any other color.
I’ve always associated Red as an angry color for me
Valentina’! You Make Me Laugh! Thank You for your Brutal Honesty and Fun In Design!
You always look fantastic, but I really liked your hair today. It looked a bit different to me, longer, styled differently? Very pretty!
Love all your videos, so funny but very interesting 😊Could you tell me where your sweatshirt is from please
Are the Sanela curtains heavy?
Where its the link to the carpet steam cleaner?
Love your hair and ideas.
I would (only) get the round rug in a bright cheerful color for a kid's room/nursery. And yes, it's rather expensive.
Your hair! ❤

That sounds stunning!! The navy, light gray, white and golden times are a beautiful combination. I love a dark rug also
What’s even worse on the dried flowers Id when u add some dust to them.. eewwwee really bad
Love your hair Valentina. Thanks for the upload 💕
If I brought clippings in I’d have a little bouquet of Cacti. 🌵 😂
I’d have rabbit brush and we would be sneezing non stop!
I live in the California desert. I pruned the palms and added chrysanthemums.
I haven't watched the video yet, but I like your new haircut 😁👍❤
Such a fun video!!!! I have to ask, where did you find the black table lamp with the round white shade on the sofa table behind you? I love it sooooooo much!!
Which Sanela curtain colour do you recommend? Do you like the white?
Don’t like that dark rug either. Saw it advertised and though Ugh😜

I like your new Hair.
I always get concerned that the sofa cushions won't stay firm?
Our Ektorp (same as Uppland, just smaller) has great foam cushions. It looks and feels brand new 7 years later and the cover is washable, adding to the newness factor.
I love Black in clothing and cars but not on my walls. It’s a scary and very depressing color. Black on the walls needs to stay down in the dungeons. 😂😅😂
The sanela is cotton the amazon ones are polyester.
The paper lamps, nooo they attract so many insects and many get stuck, they fall asleep or die on the paper and you end up with a very dirty lamp
Did u get a haircut looks great!
Great video!!!
Thank you.
I'm sorry but there is nothing that says fall about your living room except the fire, I guess. It's OK to stray from your beige and black once in a while. There really isn't much decorating involved when you simply pick everything off-white and black IMO.
I love black and white so I don’t see the problem. I’m all about textures, like velvet bouclé or fur for colder seasons
Isn’t retro fabric kind of in trend?
I still have my Holly Hobbie doll, missing an arm 🤣
You look younger. Could be the hair. Like your sense of humor, greetings from Serbia.
They’re not crazy names, they’re Swedish names…..so american…..valentina!
Great content minus the extra drama
Looks like IKEA have now replaced the Finnala with the Vimle.
This is so true for me and so funny
It looks like what you really don’t like is these items in blue 😂
Thank you I needed such a good laugh!
I love your hair and I hated everything you showed
Those curtains look like someone threw up all over them! 🙊😅
No don’t add orange faux flowers, with all your black it would scream Halloween!😱
What has happened to IKEA’s colors & patterns 😲?
Hell to the no for the red plaid sofa 🤮
I went through a red phase as well. All the red is gone 😂
And the winner is......... the Red Sofa for sure. Uggliest ever! 😂😂😂😂
I'm not even vegetarian, but the thought of having the actual covering of a sheep --the skin, all of it--kind of makes me queasy 🤢
Haven't shopped at Ikea in over 15+ years, however, i agree with all of your "AVOiD" lol, they are not my taste.
It’s a Christmas sofa 🤣🤣🤣 how horrible
Color is on trend right now. The same people that are wanting color now were screaming for neutrals a few years back. So stop coming on to a neutral lovers channel crying about everything black and white with a pop of cream in the comments 😂 not everything is for everybody.
