Wish the environs of the mana were a little more tidied up and given a fresh coat of paint. Still the family should be given credit for not demolishing any structures.
The double pillar in the Poomukham is a good example for the integration of european colonial architectural features into traditional Namboothiri illams. Use of double pillars in the main structure of Namboothiri illams are scarce but very commonly found in Pathayappura. Such double pillars can also be seen in the main structure of Kirangattu mana, Ullannoor mana and Kunnathur mana.

I am simply interested in heritage buildings like this and loves to study their various architectural features. Keezhayoor mana at Pattambi also have double pillars in its Poomukham similar to that of Modapilapilly mana. The style of pillars are actually very helpful to date a building to a particular time period. Double pillars are one of the few architectural styles that was used all over Kerala and irrespective of any castes. As a result double pillars can be seen employed in various palaces, illams and tharavads of Hindus, muslims and christians. Examples for double pillars in palaces would be Indravilasom at Padmanabhapuram palace of Travancore state, Tripunithura hill palace and Chittoor Kottaram of Cochin state, Ayiranazhi kovilakam of Valluvakonathiri’s, Thiruvannoor kovilakam of Kozhikode Zamorin etc.
In Europe, heritage buildings are well maintained mostly because the owners are still rich. No land reforms were implemented in most countries and hence they continues to derive considerable income from the land which they use for the upkeep of the historic houses. In Kerala due to land reforms, most owners of heritage houses doesn’t have any income to maintain their historic houses. It is the government that should intercede to protect and conserve such heritage houses.

@@georgelino281 true,Government does protect heritage /listed buildings here and if similar reforms happen in Kerala/India the coming generations can see how rich our architecture & culture was instead of going with the flow and constructing box like houses which is not in keeping with our climatic conditions...
