    I’m a mechanic and Snap On tools are 100% the best. It’s wild how Japanese and European car companies really hold large chunks of the market and for good reason, but we in the US are still the top of the heap when it comes to tools.

    • @bradleypease2492

      Tbh there were many tool brands that were on par or maybe even above snap on at one time. I’m in the uk and brands such as record, kind dick and Bristol were excellently made tools but sadly like the British car industry just went under due to poor management. Japanese brands like tone also make incredible tools but you just simply don’t get them in the us as no offence the us has a massive thing about tools being from the USA. Separately I have to agree snap on do make amazing tools but sadly even snap on quality has dipped in recent years and they charge crazy prices for tools that in a lot of cases are just rebranded. The history of snap on is second to none though and definitely needs to be recognised. Other European tool brands like facom from France sadly moved production to overseas but brands like wera and such are still but beautifully made. Sorry for the long response I’m just a bit bored

      I think with a lot more tool company’s offering lifetime warranties and snap on losing patents left right and centre they have to compete so much more to succeed. Not to mention now the company has been around 100 years There are plenty of second hand snap on and other tool brands that it’s hard for any company but especially snap on to move mass amounts of products. I think snap on has done well buying over company’s and will succeed as that but if snap on had not done this and just stayed as a single company it would defiantly have seen a massive decrease in buyers.

    • @bradleypease2492
      @bradleypease2492 Рік тому

      And again the rest of the world makes plenty of tools snap on tier or above just sadly you don’t get to see them or they have since disbanded - even snap on is known for buying other brands and moving production overseas - forcing their product onto people

    • @matthewgallant3622
      @matthewgallant3622 Рік тому

      @@bradleypease2492 No, we really don’t. Everything here is American-made. A lot of other tool brands have gone down hill too like Stanley and Craftsman, which is owned by Stanley. I have some old Stanley tools and they’re pretty decent compared to the newer stuff, which has become cheap Walmart quality tools. Harbor Freight also has come up with great tool brands that are also lifetime warrantied, including Icon which really rival Snap On with certain things at a fraction of the price. Their ratchets for one can hold more torque than Snap On ratchets. But I doubt the shape is as ideal as Snap On’s. And yes you have to be selective about what you buy from any tool company cuz lots of things are just rebranded. Mac Tools sells their own branded impact wrenches, they’re the exact same as DeWalt, even use the same batteries but they’re at a premium cuz they say Mac on them.

      @jacob2483 3 роки тому

      @@Lee-lb9qh I would agree that snap on is over priced, however you can’t say they don’t have some of the best tools. If you have used them you know. Once you use nice tools it’s hard to go back to some of the cheap ones. Not every tool has to be snap on but they make quality tools. Cheap tools get the job done but they aren’t always the easiest and get the job done the fastest. When you are working on stuff for work faster is key. The faster you are the more the company makes, the more the company makes the more you make. Simple as that. I rarely even use hand tools anymore because power tools are way faster.

      @@Lee-lb9qh yeah they have been in business for a long time and most of their hand tools not all is still made in the USA. Doesn’t totally justice the price but I’m okay with paying for it, usually I get a discount either on eBay, pawn shops, or a slight discount on the truck. Don’t get me wrong most of my tools are harbor freight, Milwaukee, and others, but a have a fair amount of snap on and matco now. I’m a young guy though and I’m really a trucker but also work on trucks/trailers for work and work on my dirt bike at home. So for me I figured I’d just buy some nice hand tools and have them for life. The only tool truck tool I can’t live without is the matco 15” locking flex head. I work on refrigerated trailers and working on those reefers it is like gold. I even have a friend that is helping out at work wanting to buy one after he used it some. It's not entirely about the warranty. Sometimes you can't get in with the box end and the open end is your only option. And if you can't afford to allow the fastener to become rounded out then you need a top shelf tool like snap on because they won't spread out like the cheaper wrenches do. Rounding off an aluminum bolt for example turns a quick extraction into a nightmare and if you wrench for a living like I do the higher expense for pro level wrenches becomes entirely justified.

    • @YoungChristopher1
      @YoungChristopher1 9 років тому

      Joe Muenkel I totally agree with you. However snap-on man will never see my money on wrenches. I feel they are very over priced even at their level of workmanship. Lowes and others are starting to make better wrenches and quite honestly I prefer kobolt's line of sockets and wrenches. Air tools and the like however... he has see a-lot and come pay day he will again (granted some sockets I can only get from snap-on like a 8 point 5/8. I need it for one job, but it needs to be very well made so cheaping out was/is no option.)

    • @Toolaholic7
      @Toolaholic7 9 років тому

      Joe Muenkel Depends on the dealer now,some won't warranty broken tools with the not purchased from me excuse and want to see a receipt.This is BS,a tool warranty should not be this way.Plus anything wore out,Snap On does not cover and you break the tool first.

    • @joemunk
      @joemunk 9 років тому +1

      if you have a snap on, mac or matco branded tool they will warantee it anywhere, they have the legal obligation to do so. Not sure what your talking about that sounds like something home depot would pull.

    • @Toolaholic7
      @Toolaholic7 9 років тому +2

      One dealer in my area questions asks how the tool was broke and tells the customer tool he will not warranty it.There was another dealer in my area now deceased that would not warranty tools not purchased from him.Snap On's warranty only covers the original owner only and says in the policy

    • @ScorpionRegent
      @ScorpionRegent 9 років тому

      wafrederick It maybe part of the warranty to not cover tools that were abused or modified, but any good tool rep knows it's good business to warranty tools no questions asked as long as it isn't obvious that tool was messed with. My tool rep. told me that he loses no money on tool warranties. He just turns in the old tool or parts and he gets credit for them. The only problem I see is that he loses a tool out of inventory till he can get another. If a tool rep is so as tight to worry about losing sales to second handers like pawn shops and E-bay then they will put themselves out of business.

    • @MrAnonymousRandom
      @MrAnonymousRandom 8 років тому

      Depends on what you are buying from Snap-on and whether or not you are using your tools day in and day out. Mid level quality specialty tools that aren't used daily work just fine. A lot of Snap-on tools are rebranded items from other manufacturers. An example would be that Kastar/Lang 48 pc rethreading kit that both Mac and Snap-on rebrand. There are also situations where the same basic exact tool is made by a Snap-on subsidiary and cost less. There are Bahco rachets that share the same internals with the Snap on dual 80. Frankly, Snap-on has been cutting corners lately and there are other tool makers you can go to for quality tools such as Armstrong, SK, Proto, and Wright. Blue point is mostly made in China garbage if you check their catalog. At least with their Williams industrial line you can choose between Taiwan and US made product lines. And there's non-USA made items creeping their way into the Snap-on catalog as well.

    • @forge52100
      @forge52100 7 років тому +1

      Uh, no. Depends on the alloy used, from what I've seen crapman tools are pretty soft. It might help if they were properly heat treated, but I suspect the alloy used is a lower grade than Snapon uses. Even if it's the same alloy, and if you were to grind the extra meat off the crapman tools you'd still have looser tolerances on the wrench teeth, snapon just fits nuts and bolt heads better. Unless you've got a set of 40 year old craftsman tools the new ones are junk. It's to the point that I normally buy harbor freight tools in place of over over the counter tools like husky and crapman, there cheaper and generally better. I still love snapon tools, but I'm not working as a mechanic anymore and don't use hand tools all day, every day anymore. Nor do I work on aircraft where I need to get into tight areas, so as much as I love snapon I can't justify buying new ones.

You say do some research, how about close to 40 years experience working with hand tools? The only way I can possibly imagine what you describe happening is if there was a bad production run and the reps didn't want to deal with it. Once again I don't buy it. This is all just talk. You say this and that. I could say the world flat. If you really can't get any satisfaction from your local rep here's your answer:

      snap on is very high quality... every component is made from the highest quality material you can find... they also put ALOT of thought into designing their tools to make a working man's life easier... and they make sure the hand tools will last a lifetime at the very least ... other wrenches and sockets and ratchets are made from lower quality steel and the fit and finish of other tools aren't near as precise as snap on....I don't own allot of snap on simply cuz I can't afford it...I think their stuff is ridiculously over priced... but I'm positive that most of what they make IS the best quality in the world and most of what they make will be the last one you'll ever need to buy for the length of your career or life even... you can use a set of snap on wrenches your whole career then hand them down to your grandson to start his career with and they'll do him great his whole career too.... as for the Chinese comment... that's just racist as hell and you need to expand your thought process immensely... the other guys right, it's the AMERICAN ceo's that shut down their plants and factories and move em over seas for cheaper labor and allot of times use cheaper materials and also over seas they have little to no environmental protection laws so they save money there too by just polluting instead of doing the right thing....GREED is what it boils down to. but with all that said I DO believe snap on could lower their prices a substantial amount without having to cut back on labor or quality...
