    The bike in the thumbnail is very interesting but doesn't appear in the video. Can you elaborate on just what that machine is or if it's a fantasy image?

    The 450cc Honda from a few years earlier had a DOHC and was fast and the later model had the looks too.

    M K 3? Mk is short for Mark, so it's a LM Mark 3 (i.e. the third version).

    The Silverwing fairing offered less wind protection than some other fairings? Could be because the example shown didn’t have one.

    3:57 It was actually called "Isolastic" and occasionally nicknamed "knicker-elastic" because as the rubber bushes deteriorated, the bike became prone to fishtailing in high-speed turns. That would also happen if the bushes weren't kept properly shimmed.

    • @OzzieDeWitt
      @OzzieDeWitt 3 місяці тому +3

      To be ultra technical here it's a 1980 "American Export" Bonnie. The handlebars give it away. The indigenous models had "straights". The high-rise "seagull" handlebars ( as on this model) were Triumphs nod to the American Harley "cruiser" look which was much more popular over there. Personally, I think the "home market" version was the better looking bike but, that's just my opinion. The Bonnie, whether 650 or 750 was a classy bike that handled like a little 250. Held the road well and was really nimble. It also had a decent turn of speed when required. I loved my Bonnie's ( had 4 over the years 650 and 750) . For me, the only Brit Bike that came close, regarding ride and agility was The Norton Commando ( 850 preferably). That was always the hard choice for me. The Commando was quicker but, apart from that, you couldn't put a cigarette paper between them.
      There were some really good British Bikes. This was just a couple of them. Ah, but Bonnie's were the beautiful ones.

    • @robertwhite2032
      @robertwhite2032 3 місяці тому

      @OzzieDeWitt the problem with the Commando was that you had to set up the isolastics at .010" to make it handle good. It was a wobbly mess when looser than that. When you did that, they vibrated so much that you couldn't hang on to the bars because of the vibration. The T140V/E bonneville was a vastly superior machine. When I was road racing my bonneville, Nortons were nowhere...not even close.

    • @OzzieDeWitt
      @OzzieDeWitt 3 місяці тому +1

      @@robertwhite2032 I would agree in part about the vibration. Somewhat tedious on a long run.
      I found 012" to 015" to be my optimum. But, I would also agree that it's a really subjective point and really depended on whether you were racing around or cruising around. I, personally, liked to have a " blatt" now and again but, preferred cruising around 70/ 75 mph.
      What I found with Bonnie's were at that speed you got some irritating vibration . Up to 70 they were fine. Over 80 they were brilliant but 70 to 80 you'd get vibration through the handlebars. For some peculiar reason it wasn't so prominent on my T140v's but on my '65 and '68 650's it was really noticeable. Tried all sorts to minimize it. I found riding TT100 tyres helped a bit but, they wore out so quick. One of the bikes I even paid out to have the crank speed balanced. All that did was shift the vibration up to 80/85 mph.
      Again, this is a subjective " quibble" more than anything else.
      I liked my Commando she was a very " attractive" and reliable machine that could shift along impressively when needed but, I loved my Bonnie's more. With all of the "quibbling" aside, the Bonnie's just had more "character" and we're a lot more "forgiving".
      I guess, given the choice these days, I would probably go for a '65 650. That was probably the one I loved most. She was just awesome.
