It’s going to take 2024 for me to get mine done. It’s not just the sewing room, it’s the entire house. Today I finished packing three sacks of charity shop donations.

I'm doing the same in my house, but only one room here and there. I work at a religious retreat center and that's how we handle the buildings (the deep cleaning not the regular cleaning)

Agreed! My house is the same way. But a lot of my other house clutter is actually my sewing room clutter spilling out of my teeny tiny sewing room

Lol. Mine is my entire house, we have lived here for 31 years, took in some of my mothers stuff when we broke up her house, and at since I’m in my 70s, I need to be honest about some of my stuff

Organized my notions. It is coming along nicely. I can’t believe that I still have things to Declutter since doing this last year. Had a great afternoon cutting all the fabric for a FPP valentine’s heart wall quilt. With this catch up day, I’ll get to sew it up. Thanks so much for helping us do this each year. It really keeps us organized. Appreciate all you do Karen!

It took me this long just to excavate my machines. But, we did manage to do everything else as per the declutter days.
Just a couple of hours ago, I was finally able to clean and oil my machines. And, I hemmed the ruffle of my new house dress, and the bottom of a matching shirt.😅

Today I finished some quilted placemats that I started a week ago, put the pouches for some recent projects in my craft (brag book) binder, then washed and ironed the quilting cottons for the quilt I will be making for my newest granddaughter.
I was going to pull out and daydream about a few other projects but I stopped myself just IN TIME!
On thing this series has done for me this year is convince me to join our local community quilt guild. I want other quilters to talk to live and in person. And I may find some quilters who would be interested in my surplus supplies 😉.

I am still at the point of putting all the same items in the same area. Totally, out of control room. But I know where things are.
I came across 10+binders with some patterns. The binder are taking up a great deal of space. I will dump what I no longer need another day.
However, today I am going to close the studio door. Clean up the rest of the house.
Then have my friends come over for dinner; and relaxing with them.
Plus, I won’t feel overwhelmed that the rest of the is a mess. Because it will be clean. Tomorrow is another day to work and create.

    Free day!
Yes.... I will meet with my children, they live about an hour ago (for Germany that is quite a drive!) and we are going to a virtual art exhibition. Afterwards we will be enjoying a Thai meal together.
The drive will be something since the weather forecast predicted icy roads, so I am hoping for the best!
I hope you all will have a great day! 🙋

I love your Tim Holtz bag. Did you make it? I’ve been watching you for a very long time and have declutterred along side you for several years. A few years back you declutterred pins and needles and I didn’t think it was a big deal UNTIL I started. Boy did I go down a rabbit hole! I encouraged my fellow quilters but they thought it silly. Their bent and not sharp pins are a pain. When I did go down that rabbit hole, I realized I had a lot of vintage, some antique sewing things, lots of wood spools and put them all in a big antique wood bowl to look at and touch. Then I’ll change it out and put other things in the bowl. What to do with all the scissors? I have my grandmothers, a couple aunts and many from our church quilt group. I don’t think I can display those in a wooden bowl. Ha Ha! I just hate to let them go. Each year I say maybe this will be the year. Not this year…

Afterward, as far as sewing goes, I will spend time looking at magazines, books or watching videos such as yours and others and just thinking/dreaming. It's important to have that day of rest.

Today a friend’s DIL was in town and I took the opportunity to gift yarn and school supplies. She is teaching art in a school and her husband is a pastor. I hate to admit that even though I gave her three bags of yarn, one tote full of supplies and three smaller boxes of scrapbooking items, it still looks like I have not made a dent in my closet of yarn but I know it is less full. I also cleaned up my mess so I can sew after I complete day 15 challenge. I will add that I declutter, packed my car, and did clean up in 1.5 hours.

Well let's see. I did a little sewing. Cleaned stuff that the cats use. Watching a couple UA-cam quilt favorites. Ate some nuts. It's 20 degrees here, up from 10 yesterday. Ate a few crackers. Watching Karen's UA-cam about today. Thinking about finishing the top of a potato chip block quilt for my quilt guild. Having a hankering for actual potato chips. Watched interesting UA-cam yesterday about thread weights. Do the thread people actually walk all those kilometers to see how long thread is to weigh a kilogram? 30 weight is 30 kilometers to weigh a kilogram.

Good for you! I think you will love being in a guild. We moved back to our home state of FL (but sadly not our home town of Key West) in 2004. The next year I joined my first guild. Not having friends here, I have made sew many new friends most of whom we’ve been together since 2005. I also belong to the American Sewing Guild because I love all sewing facets. Both guilds have community projects that enables us to give back. Enjoy your new year of sewing.

Hello Karen. This may seem like it has nothing to do with decluttering, but for me it does. I wondered if you might do a brief video on how to go about finding a worthwhile charity to donate quilts -- baby and/or larger? I would love to donate, and would also love to make a *habit of donating. However, with all the time, care, and money it takes to create a quilt, I want to be sure that I'm donating to a *truly needy charity. Thanks in advance for any direction you may be able to provide.

I have a suggestion. There is an organization called "Sleep In Heavenly Peace/Quilts Across America". There are chapters all over. The Sleep part, builds beds for children that don't have them. The quilt part donates quilts to put on those beds. A group of us got together at our local quilt shop yesterday and were able to complete one quilt top and made all the blocks for a second top. There are some fabric, size, and quilting rules to follow. It was fun to do knowing what a great cause it was for and we are planning on getting together once a month to do more.

@@laurahook7509 Thank you so much, Laura :) I'm so happy for you that you have a group with which you can create comfort for those in need. I live in the middle of nowhere in upstate NY. Sadly, there are no quilt shops or guilds where I live. When I saw your post, I immediately looked into the organization you suggested. The nearest chapter is 1 1/2 hrs from me, which is not at all a problem as it is about 20 min from my son and his wife. Again, thank you!
