YUMMY ! In California, I add a stalk of sliced celery & a stalk of sliced leek to the dal while boiling along with a little salt and a little turmeric & some butter or Desi Ghee ! The dal comes out soft & aromatic !! Hing is a must for dal & sambhar. Also, a table spoon of juice of Tamarind extract Without hing powder, a Madrasi chef will go nuts !

its always nice to learn new ways of cooking a simple dish. some dishes like this use mustard seed and no cinnamon and clove . ...you use it.. Hmm must try this way. My indian friend taught me to make this dish. But i st ill cant get it right. I dont use asofoetida because of its strong flavour and i hardly use it at all . such a waste to buy.. Thanks anyway. Learnt something new

i love your recipe from the other videos i watch on youtube, your presentation is good. some of the videos i watch is utter horrendous. when i put the dal into the pressure cooker water started to ooze out from the whistle, why did that happen. i have never used a pressure cooker before, i just purchase one so i could cook like you do lol...my wife loves the dal fry... i ball the dal fry with a three types of dals just to pep up the taste. its nice to experiment. i just saw a video where i can cook shrimp biryani with the help of the cooker. gonna try it out. thanks for making me buy a cooker. save a lot of time. its quick and fast. take care have a nice day. happy teaching us to cook.. i told my wife, the way to a man's heart is his stomach, its the other way round i cook for her...lol..
One of the best Dal I've ever had! Just to stay on the healthier side I used olive oil instead of butter and used butter for Tadka only. Tasted very good. My 2017 resolution of learning to cook has started off pretty well now. Thanks

Water oozes out do not worry about it. Soaking the dal a little longer helps to cook faster
