Great edit and fish! Hopefully Lucy made it. Your efforts gained you a sub. That scene will serve as an educational PSA for the anglers that watch your channel. Good job on the edit and all the fish!
Hello, I plan on making an 8 hour trip to the dream stream later this month. Would you suggest fly fishing the section closer to spinny or 11 mile for chunky browns. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Well, that can vary. I've had years where it's fished consistent throughout the entire three mile stretch and I've had years where it's fished better on one end than the other. In my opinion, it all depends on the river flows leading up to the fall. If the flows are up throughout September, 200cfs plus, than it will fish well throughout the entire stretch of river. If the flows are skinny, lets say less than 100cfs, than the brown fishing will struggle near the dam side. Short answer, if you're driving all that way then you should try to cover as much water as you can. That stretch of the South Platte is something to experience. Plan on fishing at least two days. Split the difference and fish each half during your stay. Of course I have my "go to" spots but each year I discover something new about that river. -Tim
MrXtopher1 believe it or not, a Flashback Pheasant Tail size 18-22 will get you into more Kokanee than you bargained for. The Brown Trout are a little trickier, but using a egg pattern at an attractor and trailing a Juju Baetis, Red Copper John, or Rainbow Warrior is a good start.
Thank you for showing proper fish handling. I really appreciate it.
Man you weren't kidding, that brown was a monster! Well done dude!
Delvehound yes she was!
Dude, as someone who fishes the Dream often, I appreciate your efforts with that fish, stewardship at its best. Thank you.
Jack, thanks for the kind words. I’m glad we’re like minded anglers.
