    I used to love this show when I was young! So cool to see behind the scenes like this! They all worked so hard. Donny and Marie were so young!

    I worked with high school productions and a musical took us the whole school year. Hard to imagine doing that every week, and adding the extra pressure of being professional, polished, and perfect in front of cameras. My hat goes off to Donny and Marie who did this as teenagers (They still do and have large families/remain active, and look amazing). I was shocked when Donny went back to Vegas after it seemed that they were going to retire after an 11 yr stint in Vegas as a team. Such strong, resilient, and talented people. I have followed them since I was 5, when the brothers were on Andy Williams.

    OH MY! What an illusion . . . I always thought all this was done in front of an audience. It wasn't. Except for maybe the Little Bit Country and Rock n Roll part. They really gave the impression they were in front of an audience the whole time. By the way, poor Donny & Marie. They worked hard.

      The whole family was working so very hard. They've never had the huge respect for such perfection. It's sad that only now are they starting to receive some real respect by most (September 2020). Thank you for your comment.

    After all these years until today I really thought too I was filmed before a real audience. Loved behind the scenes. Matching customes very detail. I miss watching the shows. I want to say they aired on Fridays at 8 on ABC in los angeles. Wouldn't miss it , there I was glued to the Zenith TV. The remote had 4 buttons. And the posters of Donny and Marie 😁 I had of them in my bedroom plastered on my walls tastefully. Ahh what a memory lane. Dave , thanks to you we can revive great memories. Keep it up.😁👌💝💝💝

    I can see why there are no more. Variety shows. There is so much time and expense involved I don’t see how a show like that could make a profit today

    I wonder why they did the show mostly without an audience. They did the Andy Williams Show in front of an audience. I watched the Donny & Marie show every Friday night. It kept me entertained.

      If you watch any of the shows, when they do their opening number, and then they say "Take it" they do a far shot and the Ice Angels come on . . . in the far shot, you see an audience clapping . . . never noticed it before, but in looking at it, it's obvious it's superimposed on the screen and there really isn't an audience there. The only time you see an audience for real is during the concert spot with A Little Bit Country and Rock n Roll.

    Jack DeLeon told me that Paul Lynde would go out and get drunk at a bar and challenge tough guys to a fight and get beat-up. They would have to get him fixed up with lots of make-up to do the taping.

      I can believe that. I've seen several documentaries that talked about how mean he was when he was drinking. He got arrested for fighting with a cop and was gone from the D&M show for a while.

    They were kids. They worked VERY HARD. Only to have it all go bankrupt. Not sure what to think of their dad. Not sure he was a good man.

    • @dawnblasingame3340

      Their dad didn't spend all their money. He trusted the wrong people. That's how the $$ disappeared.

    • @rhymeandreasoning
      @rhymeandreasoning 2 роки тому +1

      @@dawnblasingame3340 To add. Yes, you are correct. But Donny, and Marie also never got paid. They were expected to put all of their monies back into the show, the company, the studio. Donny said, they never paid, if ever they wanted, or needed anything, they usually got it, but they never got paid. They trusted their dad to make the rules, the decisions, even if they thought otherwise, in the end, their loyalty to their dad won out. Their story to me is sad. Their past story. There was a time all of the kids were scarred from their dad. But as they got older, even though the wounds might still have been there, their dad got older, and they seen an older more gentle man, than the tough rule maker dad they grew up with.
