After watching the town board meeting and seeing the complaints about the dump's smell, I understand the frustration. However, I don’t think closing the dump is the right solution. Yes, the dump is causing health issues, but so are the recurring water main breaks that affect our water quality. Closing the dump would result in losing around 160 local jobs, impacting many families, and we’d likely face higher fees for garbage pickup services, adding another burden on residents. Instead of closing the dump, maybe the DEC could run tests or impose fines if necessary.
