    Great video. Thanks Scott. Have just finished with my Adobe subscription in favour of Capture One plus Affinity (which I already have) having settled within the Fujifilm eco-system. I loved LrC but it has become clear to me that you can’t achieve the very best results from Fujifilm RAW files with Adobe (as is well recorded in many UA-cam videos). I was wary of another unwanted learning curve but your videos are making the process painless. 😀

    Excellent explanation, Scott. Nice photo.
    My main use of Capture One and/with Affinity Photo is for real estate (houses, primarily) photos. And this require the use of several shots of each room [Ambient and Flash(es) ... sometimes with several flashes that need to be composited]. As far as I can tell/find out, when multiple layers are sent "Edit with" to Affinity Photo, there is only only layer (background, as it were) that shows in Affinity, and the other layers are not there.
    Where as with Light Room and PhotoShop, all layers that are sent to PhotoShop from Light Room show up as individual layers.
    Sooooo, since that doesn't happen with Capture One and Affinity I have to Export the individual layers from Capture One and then open Affinity and then import them via the "New Stack" option.
    This wastes a lot of time ... especially when one has many, many photos to process from Capture One to Affinity and then back to Capture One.
    So, Scott, do you know of a way to have Capture One and Affinity Photo handshake more efficiently ... as with the Light Room and PhotoShop roundtrips?
    Thanks, Chuck (N.E. Florida) : +)

    Many thanks.

      That is something I would like to do. Though you can't send images to Affinity Photo in this way. They will not be imported as a stack for merging. I would output your required images to a folder and then import them as a stack, HDR merge or focus merge in Affinity Photo.

    Interesting, I use a similar workflow though I usually save as an 8 bit single layer tiff when I'm sure I've finished editing, still recognised by C1 even if you exported as 16 bit, and saves a lot of space. Particularly good shots I'll keep the affinity files for of course.

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  4 роки тому +1

      That would save space. I always keep my work intact without flattening the tiff as I always think I may come back to it some day. Thanks for leaving a constructive comment 😃

    I see the similarities between Lightroom and Capture One....and Affinity Photo and Photoshop! I like the workflow. I now see the advantages! It's wonderful. On a design note: Is there a reason you did not edit the perspective lines? I'm curious.

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  4 роки тому

      The workflow is very useful. You only have to go into an image editor if you need to so it is much quicker when you have a whole bunch of images to edit. For this image there is just no need to edit the perspective.

    Great video Scott, as usual! I have been using .psd files between C1P Sony and Affinity Photo, and the "save" in Affinity overwrites the file in C1P as per the TIFF file you demonstrated. Does .psd or TIFF have any particular advantages over the other please? Thanks Scott.

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  4 роки тому

      The reason I use tiffs is because that when you use "edit with" or "open with" from Capture One using psd and then make an edit. Affinity Photo does not save the psd file back on exit. It tries to save an affinity photo file. To save back as psd you have to manually export the file back into the same location in psd format. With tiff files the process is seamless.

    This was brilliant, I can use this! Thank you! If the original image was imported into C1P using 'inside catalogue' will an 'edit with' tiff modified in Affinity also automatically be stored in C1P 'inside catalogue'?

    Sorry I'm new to this. my simple question for now is Why would I want affinity photo when i have capture one? I assume its because I can make a 2nd save (permanent change) file and offers more edit options? I've skimmed video for now. Ill rewatch full later

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  4 роки тому +4

      Capture one is an image organisation program with basic editing(though quite advanced). You would import, organise and edit composition and colour in capture one. Affinity photo is an advanced image editor where you would do things like image clean up, compositing, adding text, advanced retouching and a whole heap of other advanced operations. Though it has no image organisation tools. For me they complement each other. Though depending on what you do with your images you may not need both.

    Is there a command in Capture ONE that allows multiple selected images to be OPENED AS LAYERS IN PHOTOSHOP OR AFFINITY PHOTO? (like lightroom has?)

  • @rolandrickphotography
    @rolandrickphotography 4 роки тому

    I hope Capture One adds .afphoto support to C1 V20. The native .afphoto has so many advantages. Super fast savings of only differences of an edit instead of saving each time the whole file, 128 GB or TB or so file size, where TIFF is limited to 4 GB and Psd to 2 GB. As soon C1 supports .afphoto, you may get rid of Adobe subscription

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  4 роки тому

      It would be nice to have .afphoto support. Though I have yet to reach the file size limit when using tiff's and it is plenty fast enough for me.

    Good video, thank you! Can you tell why you prefer Tiff to .psd files? Affinity deals with both, doesn’t it? Aren’t Tiff files also much bigger than .psd?

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  4 роки тому +2

If you choose the same bit depth and use compression then both are about the same size.

      Cheers James. I've never seen that problem before. Are you using "edit with" or "open with" and choosing the TIFF file format? Maybe it is your file associations. • @ScottWilliamsPhotography

      Capture one is an image organiser with limited editing. Mainly focused on colour and brightness editing with limited image clean up tools. Affinity photo is a fully featured image editing application with powerful features such and compositing and frequency separation. Though it does not have image organisation tools. They complement each other. If I had to own just one it would be Affinity Photo.

    If I only knew why C1 does not see my Affinity Photo app in the "open with". It does not appear as a choice in the "Open With Plugin" and neither does C1 learn it when I browsed for the .exe. C1 reinstall did not help. 😣 Maybe it has something to do with the file type associations.

      If the problem persists try right clicking on a raw file or a tiff in windows explorer and choosing "open with". Then choose Affinity Photo. If it is not on the list of programs then you may need to browse for it and add it. Make sure to set it as the default program. This has been known to work in the past.
