Rebecca and I just watched your vlog and it's literally perfect for our rainy day-mood! You're such a lovely person ❤ happy that we met you, all the best xx
You have the sweetest, calming voice ever. Lol. I think the world is telling me to go Manchester University, instead of London 😅 Life seems so chill here😍
Awww thank you Silvia, I think I'm a bit all over the place to be honest 😅. Manchester and London definitely have different vibes. London being much bigger and busier, but also it's got all the museums, musicals and just a lot of things happening all the time. Manchester is much smaller, but I definitely think you do feel like you're much more part of a student community as the universities make up a big part of central Manchester. It is also just more chill and less busy.
Oh boy all that free food. its really frustrating to come home after struggling with UK rainy cold weather and then cook your own dinner. i love your vlogging style btw. So natural !!
I'm so glad you found my videos helpful ❤️ Moving can definitely be scary, but you're going to grow so much from the experience and once you settle in, things will start to become normal for you. Feel free to reach out at any time if you feel overwhelmed ❤️
it's been a year now, i've got an offer for cognitive neuroscience and psychology so i'd like to ask abt your experience :D how are the lecturers and do you like the city?
The accomodation looks amazing! I am planning to stay at St Anselm Hall next year, but I wonder if it's quiet at night or not? Cuz I will be in my final year of studies next year, so I want to find a place to stay where I can focus on my studies :) Btw, I like your videos! Nice video edits and music!
I'd say in general that it is a quiet hall at night, obviously depending on who's living in it. But yes, it is very quiet compared to fallowfield, for example.
That is a genius way to appoint toilet cleaners I love it, what I do not love however, is that you passed up the ice cream maker. also, COOKING SEGMENT!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, there definitely is! I actually stayed in a catered hall. However, with all the catered halls, they don't usually provide lunch and some weekend meals. So with my hall (St Anselm Hall), they provided breakfast and dinner on weekdays and Sunday, and then on Saturday they only provided one meal- brunch.
hey mel, great video as usual!! i'm curious... how are you finding the experience of living in student halls? i'm planning on going on a semester exchange to UoM as well and i was wondering if living alone in uni halls made it more difficult to make friends/socialise than, say, sharing a flat with a group of people. as i can tell from your videos you're having no difficulty in finding friends lol but the prospect of being lonely for 5 months in a strange country makes me anxious af gkfjgfkjgfkk thankss
For context, I'm from Sydney, and usually live with my parents back at home. I'm really enjoying living in student halls and I actually think that it's one of the best ways to make friends, although it does take a bit of time. Sharing a flat would be cheaper, but you're more limited as to who you will meet. I think especially my accommodation, Saint Anselm Hall, is really great for making friends because of the formal dinners where you're basically forced to talk to the people around you for an hour everyday hahaha. I will say though that you'll make friends wherever you live, through societies, classes, and if you just put yourself out there and say hello to people. Also, living in halls you will likely be surrounded by first years and other exchange students so that's something to consider, and sometimes I do feel a bit old, but most of the time it's great :)
Hi! I would appreciate some advice: I'm applying to universities shortly for a Bsc in Economics and debating between Manchester and Southampton. How are the industry connections in Manchester and what is your opinion on the prestige between the two?
Not sure about the industry connections to be honest as I was there for exchange and didn't really utilise those sort of resources. In terms of prestige, Manchester I reckon is definitely more prestigious. I haven't heard much about Southampton.
Plz answer this if you see this. 1. Im very interested in joining Manchester University Im in year 12 and so far my grades are a bit awful. If I improve significant in year 13 can I still get accepted. 2. Can you explain your applications process because I'm very confused on where to start. 3. What are some of the engineering courses there? Is mechatronics engineering offered?. Thanks in advance
Congratulations, that's AMAZING!! I'm not sure about accom for under 18s, but I do know that there were under 18s at my hall - St Anselm Hall. Perhaps you could email them to find out more (accommodation@manchester.ac.uk)?
I'm glad you're enjoying them :) I did 5 subjects: - Economics and Public Policy - Public Economics - Development Economics IIA - The Chinese Economy - Social Change in China
Basically, we had the JCR committee elections (they’re a student committee for the hall) and there was one ‘mystery’ position. The premise of the mystery position is that people have to go up for it without knowing what the position is and to compete for the position they had to be the first to run to the chapel, ring the bell, and come back. We found out the mystery position was to look after all the toilets in the hall (they don’t actually have to do anything though).
I would suggest at having a look at these websites: - www.manchester.ac.uk/study/international/admissions/visa-guidance/# - www.studentsupport.manchester.ac.uk/immigration-and-visas/visas-and-applications/tier-4/ Also make sure that you do need a visa. For example, as an Australian exchange student staying less than 6 months, I only needed a short-term study visa (just a stamp at the airport) and not a Tier 4 visa
Hello, I want to know more about this uni and I am doing research on it. Any chance if you can offer me some more info on the courses side. Or if we can get in contact (no worries if you don’t want to). Thank you .
heyyyy, I'm not sure how much I can help with courses if I'm going to be honest, as I was only an exchange student. However, you can dm me on instagram (_dearoldworld) or email me (dearoldworldmel@gmail.com) if you would like. I would also suggest perhaps messaging course societies on facebook (e.g. Politics, philosophy and economics society) for student perspectives on courses that you're interested in, I'm sure they would be happy to help :)
Apparently the typical A-level entry requirement for LLB is AAA at UoM. This website probably has more helpful info: www.manchester.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/2021/09672/llb-law/
I don't really know about Fashion at UoM, but from looking online here are some of the fashion-related undergraduate degrees that UoM offers: -> BSc Fashion Marketing (www.manchester.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/2020/09663/bsc-fashion-marketing/) -> BSc Fashion Management (www.manchester.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/2020/09662/bsc-fashion-management/) -> Bsc Fashion Buying and Merchandising (www.manchester.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/2020/09665/bsc-fashion-buying-and-merchandising/) -> BSC Fashion Technology (www.manchester.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/2020/12182/bsc-fashion-technology/)
Ahahaha it actually cost £2.60 for one load of washing and then £1.70 for drying, but yeah that's still expensive. I too did consider hand washing, but the convenience :( and also washing bed sheets by hand is not the one :/
Got an offer to study medicine in Manchester and pretty sure I’ll be firming so I’ve been binge watching your videos haha
Yayyyy!! Congratulations, UoM is a fab uni and I'm so excited for you!!
me too!! maybe we'll be friends?

I HAVE TO GET IN.
First of all, love the username! And yesss, good luck for all of your studies, you're going to smash it!! 😉

Oh boy all that free food. its really frustrating to come home after struggling with UK rainy cold weather and then cook your own dinner. i love your vlogging style btw. So natural !!
For sure! I would sometimes make dinner at 9pm, because I would procrastinate doing it for the whole night 😂 And I'm glad you enjoy the vlogs!!
I have to be honest all the people who vlog about their university’s are so damn pretty
I’m praying and doing my best to get accepted next year🙌🏼
Good Luck! I'm sure that wherever you end up you're going to have a great time :)

Ayyy Celina blogs about Manchester Uni too.

Ahahaha cooking segments just for you xx... and me, because I have to eat
Loved the video! ✨Also, apart from the self-catering, are there catering services from the uni?
Yes, there definitely is! I actually stayed in a catered hall. However, with all the catered halls, they don't usually provide lunch and some weekend meals. So with my hall (St Anselm Hall), they provided breakfast and dinner on weekdays and Sunday, and then on Saturday they only provided one meal- brunch.
@@DearOldWorld ohh, okay. Thank a lot!🌸🤗😊
The reason the fire engines were there was because a student had an accident with acetone peroxide and it crystallised making it able to explode
Oh my gosh, how did you find this out?!
Dear Old World the Manchester evening news. It happened twice
cuute looks like a good week!!
Where is your dorm? I am facing the confusing choice of dorms now. Thx
I live in the uni hall ‘Saint Anselm Hall’ it’s in the Victoria Park campus about 25/30mins walk to uni :)

Aren't those lawyer robes? Lol?
Honestly I'm not sure, but they probably don't belong on top of hoodies in a university dining hall hahaha
I just received an offer to study Law!
