Unironically, seeing a car without a driver home in on you like a landbound cruise missile is *infinitely* scarier than being chased by an eldritch entity or controlled animatronic.
The story, if I understand it, Frank has a wife (Unnamed) and daughter (Andrea). Wife dies to illness. Andrea inherited the illness. Frank kidnaps MC to look after Andrea 24/7 while Frank works to pay for her medication. MC didn't like being kidnapped. MC was likely abused by Frank, given the extremity of the circumstances. To escape, MC waited until Andrea was asleep, then killed her. Frank comes into the basement after hearing Andrea was dead, attacks MC, but MC escaped after getting injured. The game is essentially a fever dream caused by pain and bloodloss. Most likely, the cars are Frank trying to kill you, maybe stab you? The police get involved, causing a shootout. Frank is somehow unharmed or escapes and later kills the police. At the end, you get an opportunity to either kill Frank or escape and get help from the police.
I don't like the idea of the MC just murdering a child suffering from illness. Especially when he said "Andrea... poor girl." it seemed more likely that the MC tried to look out for her but Andrea passed away regardless because her illness was too severe. And Frank could have gone crazy after hearing the news and just looks to blame the MC.
My question is why did the MC HAVE to kill the kid? couldnt have they just skipped the killing kid step or fake that she was dead then did everything else?
@@FZone96yeah but they essentially straight up admit to killing her later in the game (though it seemed it was more out of his own madness from being held captive).
I wish this game had the songs from the vehicles distort with the Doppler Effect. Hearing the pitch get higher as they speed up towards you sounds like a good tension builder.
This game is like if an neurodivergent person's favorite thing was cars, but they were also deathly afraid of being run over, so the only way to express their love and fear was to make a horror game about it
This game is definitely more silly than scary but it's a genuinely good concept. Though I am disappointed you missed the first encounter with the candy van (in the tank museum level), because the way it's initially introduced - where you near it and then it starts blaring rock music before actually moving to chase you - is really funny. I knew Spiff would like it. Also, the dump truck isn't even programmed to attack you in the first level it's introduced in - it targets the police car in the same way the police car targets the other two that chase you, so it's impressive Spiff managed to get killed by it like that. It's a little disappointing that it only shows up twice; I would've liked to see more of it or perhaps a true semi (or even anything with a trailer) since that would be far less controllable for a challenge.
It’s also implied that it’s the dump truck who set the police on fire. It’ll be fun to see the dump truck be treated as an overarching antagonist of some sort, as the big bad of all the cars
I’m pretty sure that they are in fact still working on the game, tbh sentient vehicles would make a better story then what’s currently in game,I think the devs said that they might change it
In new game+ you get to see the truck a few more times I highly recommend playing through ng+ if you have the game a new car gets added and its overall more chaotic
Someone said it in chat and I can't imagine someone hasn't already commented it, but that song was totally Hall of the Mountain King; not Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
That War Museum level, I also noticed something Spigg said wrong, and I hope others did too. That ain't a Sports, that's a damn Muscle, the body is screaming classic American Muscle car.
I used to do this to a friend in gmod with the mad cars addon. I would corner him with 20 high powered sedans, and his stock car couldn't avoid them all. Eventually I figured out that the car mod we had allowed the cars to push off of anything with no reactive force, so I welded 12 of them together into a ball formation. The result was that they could take flight.
I'm surprised that no one mentioned how this game nailed the atmosphere of a nightmare. Everything is on point: graphics, music, level design, darkness, also the fact that you are chased not by some monsters, but by familiar enough cars driven by hidden entities.

It seems like the cars are turning on their drivers and then attacking all humans. I think the police car was another person who hadn't been killed, then once they kill him (or his own car kills him) he turns on you. I think that's why there's screams from some of the cars
according to the comments on a different gameplay video for this game, some of the cars have people screaming that they can't control their vehicle. Also, if the cars slam hard enough into something, the screams stop.
this is a wonderful June cameo There's just the one screaming car, and it does indeed first slam itself into a concrete barrier and then the screaming stops. The police car also does have a burned corpse visible in the driver's seat when it chases you while on fire, visible through its broken windows, but he's driving it normally before getting killed - he even shouts at the cars chasing you to pull over.

This is one game that would've benefitted from destructible environments. Imagine hiding behind a bus stop only for a step van to crash straight through it and kill you. I also like how you can actually see the driver on the police car at 28:58
I love the idea this game comes up with, mostly because trying to avoid cars that are actively trying to run you over is terrifying, but I just wish this game did more with the idea, its way too short I feel, and would benefit greatly if there was a custom level function, or a map pack/playlist feature. As for the story, I always liked the idea that this was some form of purgatory the protag was earning the right to leave, or join the reapers in chasing down other sinners stuck there. (Remember, regardless that the protag was probably justified in what they did, they still killed a child, hence the purgatory thing.) Anyways, good vid Spiff, I thought this game was dope, and glad to see that you played it!
The Purgatory thing also ties in to the theory that you were injured leaving and are suffering from blood loss. So the end choice where you either keep trying to contact the police for help is you passing the vibe check. Or finally being given the option to give in and truly damn yourself to hell by killing Frank (And by getting in the truck)

This game is heavily inspired by a horror movie called "Maximum Overdrive" which is a AWESOME movie about killer cars/truck and such. Its total slop and i love it, and i feel like the game perfectly captures that, its so good. Also to explain the damage a bit, if a car is moving *too slow* then it won't deal any damage when it touches you, when the character raises their arms up to their face thats sorta like the signal of "this is really close to doing damage, but something is stopping it" so like, obviously sliding along with the cars but also being behind physics objects that can stop a car.

Known for this line
Daisy daisy give me your answer dooo I’m half crazy all for the love of you, it won’t be a stylish marriage, I can’t afford a carriage but you’ll look sweet upon a seat of a bicycle built for 2.
Jerma would absolutely lose his mind playing this game

Oh look a new video from my favourite playthrough youtuber!
A horror game where Decepticons hunt you down
Ahh, what a great *playthrough* from such an amazing *playthrough* UA-camr. Gotta love all these *playthroughs* he does for us. He truly knows his side of the internet.
the ice cream truck playing such a nice, calming song (Daisy Bell) really makes this for me.
I wasn’t expecting a video right after the marathon vod
This game really shows who has never seen Maximum Overdrive.
Maybe frank was the friends that ran over us along the way.
