As one of the earliest characters created by Vivziepop, it makes sense that Alastor has risen in popularity among Hazbin Hotel fans. Always fully dressed with a smile, the Overlord appears three steps ahead of every situation, willing to go the extra mile to influence a situation or put himself in a position of power. He has a reputation for cutting down his fellow Overlords for personal gain, which begs the question: Why did Alastor want Husk’s soul, and why did he allow the other demon to live when so many others suffered before him? Alastor’s random act of kindness must have an ulterior motive. In today’s video, we’ll try to determine the nature of Alastor and Husk’s relationship, including why Husk was kept around in the first place.

I think Alastor offered all the former Overlords a chance to survive if they became his. And when they refused, he killed them, trapping them in his radiowaves.
I feel like Husk and Nifty are some of the few that took him up on his offer.

It would explain while he has a much more friendly dynamic with them than for instance Valentino and Angel, just taking out the competition in a slightly more humane way instead of owning flat out slaves. Husk and Niffty seem to have way more freedom, pushback and power than a regular soul owned by an overlord.
I don't think he likes women better, I just think he knows how to handle different people.
Husk challenges his authority, and is snarky and disrespectful, so he puts him in his place, reminding him who's stronger.
Nifty is insane, but also entertaining and harmless to him, so he entertains her weirdness.
Charlie is a dreamer, has empathy and believes in people, so he makes her a deal that won't compromise her ideals.
Rosie is a competent leader, and has an army of literal cannibals at her disposal. She's also smart enough to not make gullible deals, so he treats her with respect and genuinely helps her, to earn her loyalty and respect.
And Vox is driven by hatred and jealousy, and makes bad decisions because of it, so he sparks that fire with provocation and indignation.
He IS a sociopath after all.

Point two feels very likely. Husk is a very empathetic person underneath his gruff demeanor. Alastor seems to surround himself with good people despite his own grey moral compass (this doesn’t really include Mimzy whom he keeps as a friend for more nostalgic reasons since they knew each other in life). This is what sets him apart from Vox who has no standards as to who he keeps around him as long as they help him maintain his status.

except carmilla stated during the meeting over the early extermination that she invited the overlords who owned the wast majority of souls in hell, why would she invite alastor if he only had a few exceptionally powerfull souls on his docket
He wouldn't have asked for Charlie's soul for two reasons. One, he's a grey character, not a fully bad one, and two, if it became known to Lucifer that Alastor had his daughter's soul, he would rip him apart.

I don't think that would work given he could then hold her soul hostage.
Rather I think it's because he knows what he needs from her and asking for the smallest possible way to get it offers more chance of her agreeing.
@@shadenox8164 while far from a pushover, Alastor CAN be beaten and outplayed. If Lucifer knew he'd done that, Alastor wouldn't have time to beg. Remember, to him, Charlie is the only thing worth fighting for
My money is on her getting him free as it requires her to not hurt anyone and is the ultimate ace up his sleeve given he is more than likely owned by Lilith thus regardless if things go well he has an out at some level as Charlie is possibly the only one who could free him directly from her mother and it’s probably a bonus it might make her hesitate or be the straw that brakes whatever bonds the two may have or have had.like it or not his most dangerous aspects are the inability to read him and his long term cunning as he knows the pecking order as well as shown when he’s with the overlords and although he plays by no rules but his own he knows likely from past experiences when to keep his head down and when to make a move.

My favorite scene with Al and nifty was when she asked who the vees were and like climbed on his shoulders and he just set her down, she did it again and he just left her. He’s kind to her and I actually love their friendship
Nice theory. Also about his moral code is since his dad was not nice to him so thats why hes hostile to men and Alastor is a mamas boy so that's why he's nice to women

@@amied7361 Zestial has been around for ages and probably has a large amount of contracts/souls under his belt. He also seems to act in a far more cultivated manner then a brute so Alastor gives him a small bit of respect. Vaggie is constantly suspicious of him and throws doubt onto his existance in the hotel which while pesky Alastor is able to simply brush off, but he finds her annoying and unlady like. I would assume if Carmilla was able to deduce easily that Vaggie was an angel then Alastor probably also knew from the begining and had no problem showing his resentment. And having lived in Cannibal Town for a short while with Rosie she says that all of the town sticks together and if Susan is native hellborn like Rosie then she might have been around longer then Rosie and the town respects her as elderly even if they don't like her. Alastor not being allowed to kill Susan even if he thinks it would be better for everyone means he has to take her numerous complaints on the chin and listen to her bitch the whole time. Alastor loves Rosie and puts up with Susan for Rosie. Thats why he dresses Vaggie like Susan in the pilot. He equates them as both annoyances he has to put up with.
It's funny how the few times he cussed it tends be around people he HEAVILY dislikes

From someone who studies psychology I'll tell you- Alister is the definition of a sociopath. This and many other channels put Alister in a good light and that's exactly how a sociopath wins. (Very well written characters in Hazbin Hotel)
First of all Husk died half a century after Alastor, so he clearly knew what he's gotten into when Alastor took ownership of his soul. I don't think Husk initiated the deal to avoid a second death. My suspicion is:
1. The "moral codes" reason has some weight - Alastor is shown to have lines he wouldn't cross in the comic "a day in the afterlife". Likewise, Husk always left things to chance, meaning his dealings were inherently fair. "Welcome to Heaven" suggests Husk is a possible Redemption candidate, as he played the angel on Angel Dust's shoulders, helping him stay sober and enabling his attempt at consoling Nifty.
2. Husk is more useful "alive" than fully dead - this also plays into the last 2 theories, but let's not forget Husk is a former Overlord and, as we saw in "Masquerade", a formidable fighter. Alastor allowing him near-total freedom when not under orders might have been a deliberate power move on Alastor's part. In "Loser, Baby" we see the difference in Angel's and Husk's entanglements - Valentino couldn't take full ownership of Angel's soul, likely because Angel had thirty years of experience as a Sinner by the time Val joined the scene, but he does everything he can to keep him enslaved. In contrast, Husk's entanglements are concentrated, precise and deliberate - Alastor has no involvement with Husk's life unless he's actively using him. This might also be why Al referred to him as a pet - he keeps him, among other things, as an attack dog.
As I underastand it, having a deal through which a soul belongs to you gives you magical power. Having those souls bound into servitude is a big bonus. Alister destroys souls only when it is needed as a warning. The overlords that he killed were reputation builders "Don't mess with the Radio Demon". He keeps the rest around since destroyed souls don't add to his power.
It is entirely possible, the reason why Alister treats the souls he owns so well is because intact souls provide more power than broken souls.
My personal headcanon with Alastor and Niffty is that Alastor never made any deal with her. She does what he wants entirely of her own will. Alastor finds her various 'eccentricities' amusing, and her obsession with 'bad boys' makes her attachment to Alastor pretty self-explanatory.
That's my headcannon too. Like he doesn't actually have any ownership or power over her, he just keeps her around because he thinks she's neat

I'm pretty certain Lucifer is well aware of who Alastor is/was. Lucifer would be very quick to know what would get under Alastor's skin and his tones in the initial conversation show that his mockery pissed Alastor off. Given the nature of hell exposed so far, Lucifer likely knows everything that's happening everywhere. But his depression has made him generate an active blindspot for what Charlie is doing, until he's invited directly back into her life and they begin to reconcile; making sense why he showed up to fight Adam but it took him time. He can portal anywhere near instantly, and it's doubtful Alastor's shield could block him. He still wants to not push Charlie, until it was obvious he had to.
Lucifer has shown himself to be extremely detached from what's going on in hell actually.
Maybe a weird theory, but despite being an addict, Husk seems very profiecent at gambling and playing the odds. What if, as an overlord, he just didn't want to be offed by Alastor who was taking control, thus loosing to him or making a deal on purpose to be spared the slaughter or games. Since it seems to work out and as long as Husk doesn't trigger Alastor, they even seem to have sort of a friendship (Husk can complain, push back, comment, just not flat out insult Alastor with specific things).
“I sold my soul to save my power” the deal was that Husker gets to keep his power, meaning he couldn’t broadcast husk like others he simply overpowered
Clearly not since Alastor threatened him with that if he stepped out of line again.
@@shadenox8164 Alastor is capable of making empty threats to keep someone in line. But also if husker defies Alastor like that it could count as a violation of contract.
His kindness to women is also a weakness as his soul is most likely owned by one either by Lilith or The Root of Evil Roo.

Charlie wasn’t the only deal we saw. He also did a smaller deal with Vaggie to help create the hotel’s commercial under the condition that Vaggie would never ask him to do anything involving television ever again
Tbf, it might have just been a whim on Al's part. Letting one 'slip' through the cracks for one reason or another. Also, I'm not sure Lucifer had enough wherewithal to know about Al even when he was 'relevent'.

One possiblility for it is Husk was a gambler and thought his very existence was up for grabs and even if Alastair got his soul he would take what he could then end him.

It's just a theory if a overlord defeat another overlord they'll gain their soul and power and maybe Husker power is luck or maybe Husker was Alaster old friend when they were alive.

Man, Alastor The Radio Demon is not as evil and heartless as he pretends to be. We do see parts where his armor is broken through and we see him being a semi good guy.

Interesting interpretation. I see one major flaw with it though. He was a serial killer when he was alive. That by definition makes him have Psychopathic Personality Disorder (Sociopathic Type). As such, anything he does is solely for his own gain as he's unable to have empathy or even sympathy with others, he can only pretend to have them to get closer to people.
So, I doubt there's anything else him doing anything other than he expects to benefit from it in the long run.
His never hurting women can easily be something where he exploits the tendency for some women to be attracted to someone simply because they see them as pretty or nice. This has happened several times throughout history where women will advocate endlessly for a guy no matter how big a monster he is because they think they can fix him. After all, that's what Conservative ideology teaches women, that they should fix men and if they fail it's their fault.
His moral code is only the things he holds himself back from doing because getting caught doing those things would have a far greater punishment than what he does. This is also common in both history and mythology where a person or a character has held themselves back from acting on their instincts simply because the punishment would be a lot harsher. An example of this is The Joker who thinks that going against the IRS is utter insanity. If he's caught by Batman the justice system will throw him into Arkham, a prison for the criminally insane. If he's caught by the IRS it would throw him into a prison for the criminal rather than a prison for the criminally insane.
Etc, etc.

Alastor has made me realise how so many people end up on news stories saying "It's out of character he'd never do that, he was such a good person." Apparently 75% of people are just dumb lambs to the slaughter, his only charm is edgyness and people are attracted to it or want to relate to it and be it but to anyone else he's an irredeemable asshole that will get knocked down again in the future, he's just another Val, most are just willing to let things slide because it's Alastor.
I know that it's an entirely different universe/continuity...but after learning Lucifer Morningstar, the Sins AND Goetia are all stronger than the Overlords; Alastor feels like a playground bully to me. Sure, he may be a PSYCHOTIC playground bully but all he seems to do is act like he owns all of Hell. But even HE must know that someone like Stolas, Paimon, Asmodeus, Satan or even Charlie's dad could wipe him out with just a snap of their fingers.
So, not only does Al not seem like THAT big of a threat to me but I would NEVER make such a dumb mistake as to make a deal with him. There's virtually nothing that ANY of the Overlords could offer me that I don't already have
