I have a 2020 Dime Slime made in China. It has excellent fit and finish and plays great! My wife bought it for me at a pawn shop for $500 without a single ding or scratch.
Got an ocean blue ML select from 2021. I was so lucky. In that music store they said, that this will probably the only Dean ML Select that you can still find in Europe. And that is probably true, I never have seen one after I got mine. It is a very, very well build guitar, quite heavy with a unique finish and beautiful top. Like being said, this guitar is simply great. I also have a 2007 Korean ML79 tobacco sunburst, which has a quite different tonal character and is considerably less heavy. Body is a tiny little bit more slim, but it is probably made of a lighter sort of mahogany. The Select has more bass and treble, and maybe a little more sustain from the heavier wood, and it feels like a handmade real high end guitar. The Korean ML is lighter and has therefore a more percussive, mid focussed tone, sounding closer to Dimes tone on the Pantera recordings. I afraid that I have to say buy one of these, no matter which one. But that might not be so easy.
Dean Custom Shop is unmatched . I had every custom shop axe from every big manufacturer , Deans are above and beyond any of them in my experience playing all .
I have this model as well and I absolutely love it. It looks gorgeous, the matte finish, subtle V-neck is fantastic and super stable in tuning. But I do plan to change the bridge pickup to a white SD TB-6, and put in full size CTS pots, better capacitor and a new switch.
You said it! The v shape neck is so comfy here, and feels amazing with the satin finish. I would say hold off from changing the pots to CTS unless the existing ones fail. If it ain't broke then don't fix it!
@@EricMorettin my indian ML79 came with 250k pots (and no solder joint on the neck pickup!), so be careful you can't expect dean to do things the proper way.

You should've tried swapping the neck pickup for the bridge pickup you removed so it'd be more like the setup Dime used. Don't exactly know what the difference was but I do recall Wes Hauch mentioning that.
i have this guitar and i love looking at it but i dont really like playing it. MINE started falling apart after about a year of constant use. its definitely the heaviest guitar ive ever played lol your review of this guitar is very different than my thoughts about mine. maybe i got the short end of the stick and pulled one of the crappier ones off the line.
There's only so much you can do with a set neck and low action, other than adjust the trem post height. And beware, the lower the action, the more likely you won't be able to do pull ups on the bar without the string bottoming out on the intonation adjustment screw. You gotta find the balance.
Bought this guitar in December. On Sunday I ripped out the pups and put a b&b l500xl (flipped) and ‘59 neck in the bridge. Plays amazing. When did you buy this? It’s out of stock everywhere
8n the 2000s, the only V necks on were on USAs. Imports meant big fat C neck, and in fact period correct for 1979. Maybe an exception here or there. The Korean guitars have fantastic fretwork, and compared to Indonesian guitars today, better quality overall. I wish my Korean MLs had the V neck.
I have 3 or 4 Korean Dean guitars from 2004 -2019 she they are good, especially the most modern Korean ones but the Indonesia guitars are just better today.
I owned a 333 bolt and slime at one point and they were cool. They both had pretty thin necks. The shadow had a bit of a thicker neck by comparison, but not like a 50s Les Paul. Both great guitars.
It's pretty low. Honestly I don't measure string height, since I adjust by feel. If I can bend a note more than 1 or 1.5 steps and it doesn't fret out, then I'm happy. Same with if I don't have to press down super hard to fret the note.
@@troyskinnard1393 not really if I'm being honest. The trem can only move so far as it is, and I find myself only using it within a certain range, especially to hit those high squeals. You don't need to pull up like crazy to hit them either.

That clean part was heaven. Everyone should do such cleans in their reviews even if the guitar is mostly made for heavier music.
Thanks! I try to be as versatile as possible for the styles and tones I use
That low action and matte neck finish is perfection!
Matte finished necks should be standard across all "metal" and modern style guitars IMO.
It plays much more smoothly when it’s matte
