Good video Cody! I think there a bit better as they have a power hitter shortstop and a new starting pitcher that will be there day 1 hopefully. They will be a little better than last yr but in a tough division it will be hard to make the playoffs. They still could use more offense.
I feel this is the where they’re at. I could see them anywhere in the 82-85 win range but really unlikely to make the playoffs unless multiple young players take substantial leaps.
I think the pitching staff is shaping up much better than last year with the younger pitchers having a year of maturity, Robbie Ray coming back, a full year of Birdsong and the addition of Verlander. Adames and Lee are steps up both in the batting order and defensively. A bat or two would significantly improve the team, but overall, I think it is a substantially improved team from last year.
Actually I thinking adding Adamis is a much better defensive team. I also think losing Lee so early hurt them all season. A healthy Robbie Ray improves the staff and so does adding Verlander. Webb is Webb and I would assume Hamilton would be better with one more season experience.
I'm hoping for 85 wins. I'm trying to look at the bigger picture and if their young players like Matos, Birdsong, and Harrison make strides this year, then the Giants' future is looking more optimistic
Yes Adames is lights years ahead of Ahmed and Schmitt production at SS. A full season of Ramos in LF is better than Conforto. Full Season of Lee in CF is an improvement and Yaz and Matos in RF I’ll say remains the same. Full season of Fitz at 2B is better than Estradas last season. If Wade stays healthy his platoon side will be fine. Wilmer I’m so out on. I think Robbie Rays first half will be better than Snells, Verlander will be better than Hicks’ second half. Any comeback from Doval helps. Beck will provide better innings than Teng, Jeffries, and Howard did last year. All the Luke Jackson innings will be an improvement this season too. All the Curt Casali at bats I’d hope would be improved my Huff and even Murphy. Murphy bothers me but he’s a better AB than Casali last year
They aren't building to contend this season. They're building to compete when the Dodgers inevitably fall apart do to injury and age. Teams often win the offseason and fail in the season.
Spot on. Critics just look at the subtraction of Blake Snell and say SF is worse. They don't see how much better the team is everywhere else. Ramos and Fitzgerald are sticks. I believe they both smack 20+ if they stay healthy. Then you add Adames, Jung Ho (essentially missed entire 2024 season), Verlander, get a better year from Wade/Flores, + bullpen is solid and SF has more starting options. 2 starters were injured at start of last season. This team is better everywhere. Snell helped at the end but he hurt the team a lot by missing so much time. Moreover, Posey is running the show now. No more leading off with Jorge Soler. SF will be a competitive club this year
I think they should add another hitter and another SP even if its mid tier types. Would that help them sneak into the playoffs who knows, but why wouldn't you try it and put a good competitive team on the field. I would only do 1-2 year deals so your not overly invested.
The issues with SP is they have a plethora of young arms that they need to continue developing and another SP means likely both Harrison and Birdsong go back to SAC. And I just can’t get behind that. I personally feel better about their young SP than I do any of the remaining guys on the market. That said, if they make a trade for a high ceiling guy like Alcantara that would be a different story. As for hitters in FA they’re essentially down to Alonso. A few guys on the trade market that could really help though. I’m high on Spencer Steer and Ricky is pretty high on Yandy Diaz as well. My main hope this year is we have a few more kids break out since I don’t really have playoff expectations as they stand.
Great video Cody! Love the show, as it is always informative with great views from you, Dan and Ricky. The Giants have a lot of work to compete. I believe this is a .500 team, unless there is a serious uptick in the play of our youngsters like Bailey, Lee, Fitz, Shmitt, Harrison, Beck, Roup, Birdsong, and Ramos. They need to have career years, but continue to improve. We need another one or two impact bats, an impact bullpen arm-maybe Hicks goes to the bullpen? We also need a front of the rotation starter to really compete. Not getting Bunres hurts but I would love Sandy Alcantara if he is healthy and can return to form. This team still needs 4-6 impact players to be a real contender for the playoffs. May be better than last year with no more further moves, but not by much.
Starting with Harrison, I think he still has the value of a top 50ish prospect. A couple tweaks and he could make a big jump this season. Luciano I don’t think is headlining any deals, but would be a nice piece to add to one. As for timeline with him he’s on his last minor league option year, so that means he would have to be on the major league opening day roster in 2026 or they would DFA him. I think he’ll be in SAC for the 1st half and they’ll determine whether to trade him or try to get a look at him in the 2nd half based on how he does. With him learning the OF he’ll need reps down there though.
I don’t know what he’s actually working on, but I feel he needs to strengthen his lower body to last longer and get his velo back to at least 93-95. That, and sharpening his slider and trashing the slurve. It doesn’t tunnel well off of any of his pitches currently. Obviously command needs work too, but just fixing those other 2 things and I think he’d be a mid 3 ERA pitcher. Just my .02
Are we closer to winning a championship? No. 5th most valuable team in MLB behind NY NY, LA, Chi. And somehow we are to be content with better than last year. Come on!
I’m most certainly not saying let’s be content with this current product. But I will be giving Posey the patience he (and any new executive) deserves. I’m definitely not thrilled with this offseason outside of the Adames addition. Still feels like they’re not committing to a direction. Either move some vets and let the kids play while having some support of guys like Chapman and Adames or actually go get really good players to make a playoff push. That said, Flores/Yaz/Wade aren’t the only measuring stick for improvement and personally I completely disagree with your eval of Lee, but to each their own. (From your other comment)
Fuck No. They’re a .500 4th place team again. Shame on the owners for not spending to upgrade the team. Time to Boycott games and send ownership a message 💯
I thought they should have been a WC contender going into last year and, at worst, the '25 team is comparable in terms of talent. Hopefully slightly better luck with injuries and improvements with RISP, defense, and other intangible stuff can help this team outperform expectations by a few wins. By now everyone is probably tired of talking about the guy, but I still think Ha-Seong Kim is a good fit, especially since he's still sitting in FA months later and will probably sign a cheaper/shorter deal.
Yes, they have improved. However, have they improved more than the teams above them in the NL West? Probably not. Have they improved enough to finish above .500? Maybe. Will the make the playoffs? I give them about 10% chance. Murphy as the backup hurts the team. Not upgrading at first base may be a problem. The bullpen is probably not much better.
Definitely areas to still improve for sure. LA is in its own stratosphere so I don’t even really factor them in. AZ definitely improved, at least for 2025. SD however has done zero to improve its roster from last year and may be moving Cease/Arraez. Giants haven’t caught them by any stretch of the imagination but the gap should be at least a tiny bit smaller there. That’s where getting an Alonso type could really close much of the gap between them and AZ/SD, though I’m not holding my breath there.
@ yeah, hopefully SD is catchable, but that still doesn’t mean playoffs. I do think the Giants are headed in the right direction, but if things start off bad and they aren’t competitive approaching the All Star break, they MUST execute some trades to improve the farm system. Leading the division is likely out of reach for at least 2-3 years and maybe even the playoffs if AZ maintains its quality.
That’s why I have them around 82-83 wins right now. Granted, a little development and a much cleaner brand of baseball and maybe that number is closer to 85-86 wins.
Good show but IMO to say they're at least an 83 win team like that's the floor isn't realistic to me. I think the floor is more like 77-78 wins and hope for more.
I’m not saying that’s their floor, the floor would be regression from players and zero development from young guys. I’m saying that assuming natural progression from the young players that are entering their second/third seasons, a full season of Lee, adding Adames and having a healthier rotation I feel they are around an 82-83 win team. Obviously things can/probably will happen that causes them to either win more or less than that total. That’s just the number I see based on the current talent level.
@EYDShow I also see their records against the Dodgers and Dbacks being worse in 2025 than they were in '24 because relative to those teams, the Giants got worse.
@ He was phenomenal….for 15 starts. Fortunately for the Giants it’s a 162 game season and he was a colossal net negative until he started his run July 9th.
@ LA they only went 4-9 anyway. I highly doubt they go 0-13, so realistically they’ll only lose 1-2 games there. AZ is tough, because I don’t personally feel they improved as much as many people are saying. I feel Naylor vs Walker is essentially a wash at best. Similar bats, though Walker has been much better defensively. Not to mention they also lost Joc, who all jokes about him in SF aside put up a .275/.908 OPS slash line with 23 HR and a 151 OPS+ last season. That is a massive loss. So yes, they added Burnes, whose stuff and production have been trending downward, but they also lost a ton of production as well. Now if Carroll goes back to his 2023 self, that could be a bigger add for them than any of their other moves.
The Giants might have a worse record just because of the fact that teams in our division and the national league have improved while we haven't improved much at all. Our record could easily be worse this coming year.
Again, it really comes down to what you’re using as the measuring stick. Are we saying they haven’t improved much at all from the team they were trotting out in Sept? Or the team that played the first 90-100 games of the season? Because objectively speaking this Giants team should be far better than the team we got for over half the season. Also, how many teams have really improved more? PHI/WAS/MIA/MIL/STL/PIT/SD/COL have all done minimal/nothing to improve their rosters. ATLs improvement is getting Acuña/Strider back from injuries, but they also lost Fried. LA was already miles ahead anyway. AZ is likely only marginally better after losing Joc and Walker and replacing them with Burnes and Naylor. CIN replaced India with Singer/Lux, but their big improvements will be getting McLain back and having Tito as their manager. CHC and NYM genuinely improved though. So looking around the entire NL, maybe 5 teams improved more than SF and 3 of those teams (LA, ATL and NYM) were already pretty far ahead of SF.
Dbacks are a big question mark as far as the level of improvement. They essentially swapped Walker for Naylor which we’ll see the impact and then lost Joc, but did add Burnes. All told I think they’re just a tad better over 162, though a tougher out in the playoffs.
We are not better. We still have a 34 year old Flores, a 33 year old Yaz and a 31 year old Wade. Do we think they will be better or worse this year? Oh, and Lee coming off an injury. Lee, worse signing since Zito. 113 million for 6 years for a guy who has an upside of 15 HRs, 15 SB and hits .270. And he will not be in the top half of best defensive CFs. And don't be surprised if he gets sent down to work on his game. The Korean League is the equivalent of Low AAA. WTF. All at a time when the A's are playing in Sacramento and the Giants Org. should be trying to capture these fans. I have a lot of friends who are A's fans. And they are exctied about who? The f%$#%&ing Dodgers! No commitment to winning. This is why players do not want to come to SF.
Overall I’m excited for the season, Farhan being gone should give us atleast 4 more wins back lol Full year of Ramos Lee and hopefully Birdsong/Harrison. No bad first half snell either. And probably the best part, no more heavy platoons and over reliance on analytics.

Padres didn’t improve. Dbacks added Burnes and Naylor but also lost Walker and Pederson (jokes aside, he had a big year last year). I just gave a hard time seeing SF win less games than they did in 24, barring major injuries.
NO WHERE'S THE POWER THERE TO CHEAP TO GO OUT AND GET A POWER BAT FIORES IS A BIG JOKE WADE IS BAD HOW CAN YOU BE BETTER WITH NO POWER ALOT OF STRIKE OUT PLAYERS
Never said they were significantly better, but comparing last years roster and this years roster it’s pretty clear to me they’re at least marginally better. Miles better than what played in the first half of 2024, maybe a tiny bit better than what we saw in September.
@@EYDShow Agree that Flores & Wade should be upgraded at 1B whether that be via Alonso or trade. If they do something about that, then the offseason will be a pass. 2024 had Snell, Ray & Cobb start the season on the IL. 2025 has everyone healthy and ready to play so less bullpen games will improve the side as a whole.
@EYDShow WHERE'S THE POWER FACE IT THERE VERY VERY CHEAP THERE CRY IS 4TH OR 5TH PLACE HERE WE COME TAKE WADE FLORES YAZ AND TRADE THEM FOR A DH AND THROW OTHER'S IN THERE TO GET A DEAL DONE

I was very high on Soler last year, but the fact that nobody could hit in the clutch killed them.
I think the pitching staff is shaping up much better than last year with the younger pitchers having a year of maturity, Robbie Ray coming back, a full year of Birdsong and the addition of Verlander.
