This is a brilliant find! Ries thought of chamber music in symphonic terms just like his friend and influence Beethoven. Thanks to UA-cam and Brilliant Classics this composer has been rescued from the undeserved footnote bin!
Dans la lignée de Beethoven, Ries nous offre de bien belles sonates cello/piano aux mélodies si délicates et romantiques. Belle interprétation de ces deux artistes italiens sur instruments d’époque qui sortent des sentiers battus.😀🎵
the op. 125 is great, robust and dramatic, quite fun to listen interesting listening to unknown composers, and I love beethoven's third piano concerto, so now I know his first interpreter
The intonation of the pianoforte and the cello in these recordings really reminds me of the Schubert Arpeggione sonata recording by Alfred Lessing and Jozef De Beenhouwer. It is really neat how wide of a range of timbre stringed instruments of the period could have. No two period celli sound the same to me. I disagree with the comments below on the intonation - what I hear sounds like the intonation of parlor musicians, an intimate and 'real' manner which is how many of these sonatas would've been enjoyed when they were freshly written. I really enjoy Ries' works.
The influence is obvious, but these are not CC. Ries has a music of his own, like all the composers of the "écriture brillante" epoch. And as you say, when a complete edition of his works on period instrument.
The duo sonatas for Pianoforte with an obligato instrument like the violin or violoncello would fit within the category of the accompanied piano sonata or the piano sonata in general. The stubborn relabeling of these compositions as cello sonatas is very misleading and continues to this day. Scoring this piece for Pianoforte and violoncello does not make it a cello sonata. You can hear for yourself that all the virtuoso passage work is in the piano part. The Piano is clearly the featured instrument, not the cello.
Sonatas for Pianoforte with the accompaniment of a violoncello. Why do modern musicologists and performers mistakenly today stubbornly continue to call these pieces cello sonatas. The title of these duo sonatas does call them cello sonatas. You can hear for yourself that the piano part dominates the piece with the cello playing an Obligatory subsidiary role.

Thank you all for allowing public access to this beautiful music collection!
Wonderful playing and beautiful music
I found this while browsing, enjoyed it immensely, even if it is like Beethoven
Brilliant music from Brilliant Classics! I never really appreciated chamber music until I heard this album!

Ries is student as well as best friend of Beethoven.Beethoven often teased him for copying his works !

I love the crisp sound of that piano. It provides such a unique, clear, and playful tone to its recordings. Where did Commelato get it?
bellissimo disco! grazie
So good

Ries is consistently enjoyable. Who is this Beethoven guy who keeps copying off of him?
5:56 Que belo pizzicato!
Beethoven influence is in the air.
Ries is a student , best friend , and admirer of Beethoven.
Just like Beethoven’s cello sonatas, the cello is in the background and the piano is up front.

Sorry, but horrible sound of those instruments.

Bonjour, connaissez-vous un bon enregistrement de ces sonates? Merci de votre aide!
