"I've suffered for my music, now it's your turn" genius! He did a gig for 60 of us upstairs in a pub after my friend contacted him and asked would he come! His next gig was Las Vegas as the start of a US tour! He was brilliant!
Been listening to Neil for over fifty years ! This man was a REAL GENIUS ! From "DO not adjust your set", " The Brozo's" "The Rutles" and his own compilations such as "How sweet to be an Idiot" and "Imitation Song". Neil was a real "Down to earth" man who shunned fame and money. Thank you Neil for such Beautiful and wonderful songs and memories 💖💖💖💖💖
This is a brilliant outro to Ron. The perfect mix of nice song, nice take on Imagine, and meta parody of the entire concept of the Rutles. I'll miss you Neil, you were one of the best,
I don't know if this is true everywhere, he may be well appreciated in other 'circles' or in Europe or wherever, but it is my experience that he is one of the most underappreciated artists ever. There have been very few people who knew who he was when I've brought his name up. The guy was brilliant.
Innes was one of the rare controllers who not only had a mastery of music, but was a very capable instrumentalist with the looks and charisma to hold an audience's attention. Other Tavistok/Frankfurt School overseers like Theodor Adorno could never get up on stage and perform his own songs, like "Love Me Do" and "Please Please Me." The genius is that they could convince the world that four homely working class lads from Liverpool, who couldn't read or write music and only knew four chords, could come up with that brilliance from thin air!
I fell in love with Ron Nasty/Neil Innes when I first saw "All you need is cash" when I was 15.I'm 49 now and I still think he's great. He just gets better and better.
I'll never forget seeing that on TV. They showed it here in the states when it first came out. I had no idea what it was and my sister and just happened to catch it. I was 18-ish, around 1978. I thought it was one of the best things I'd ever seen. Then I never heard of it again for many years. I was visiting my sister in the late 90's or so and we decided to see if they had it at Blockbuster, and we were amazed to find it there and got to watch it again.
@@NoviJimB I remember when I was doing my apprenticeship , everyone came in and raved about the Rutles the day after it was on TV . Of course it was the trousers . Good old Leggy .🤣
I know Neil wouldn't want to be put on a pedestal, but he was the kind of guy who could have been anyone's neighbor. Down to earth, and just fun to be around. I don't know if I'd have had the nerve to approach him, but I would have been mesmerized!
I love this man. Ever since 'It's Sweet to be an Idiot.' Before that, with Bonzo. My wonderul job in the seventies to host KSAN's, San Francisco, morning show. My only order from the PD was to 'play lots of rock and roll.' What I did w/the rest of my four hours was up to me. No restrictions. I'm not prone to the shock approach. In fact shock hadn't yet raised it snarling face yet in 74. Ichose to be silly and I had a vast supporing cast, chief among them, Monty Python and the Firesign Theater. I became awared of Neil in my two interviews w/Eric Idle. I tuned in. As for the performance ensemble, Neil was, as a musical contributor, on a level w/Terry Gilliam, although seldom given full credit. (MY opinion.) In any event, this is a wonderful bio/doc of a wonderful character who was at the forefront of British comedy. Thank you for this fun look at Mr. Stanshill.
Neil was great, a talented songwriter in his own right and a brilliant parodist. Most if not all of the Beatles got the joke(it took Paul the longest).
I was just thinking that he channels the same muse that fired the fab four. Was it years of parody or drinking from the same wellspring? Fantastic presentation. Thank you.
Yozhk I think it may be on Neil’s Ego Warriors album. A live version is on the live Rutles album that came out a few years ago. It’s not as easy to get hold of as it deserves to be though.
In addition to all the meta~meta-metA-meta, this song has accrued aditional *gravitas* since the Usa's sad Drumph era and the BS around the 2020 election. "sad..."

Quinton Reviews well said! RIP Neil: far more than a legend in your own lunchtime, and an incredibly lovely fella. Your music and work will live on.
This prick
In another world Innes would be a very famous song writer.
@Khamasin In a lot of ways Innes was comparable to Lennon & McCartney.

He sure would
Ah Mr. Innes, so talented, so funny, so sorely missed, especially in these trying imitation times.

Neil is a national treasure and living giant amongst men.
A legend in his own lunchtime!
John would have laughed his head off if he could have heard this riff on his "Imagine."
Brilliant man!
He had me at "empty speech balloons."
RIP Neil Innes thanks for all the great music and the joy brought us all.

Simply pre-Fab!
So brilliant. RIP Neil.
Imagine with just a hint of Love is Real ...
"What are you doing in the shower?"
"We're getting wet for peace."
It definitely was the trousers. God bless you EgoWarrior. See you soon.
Neil was great, a talented songwriter in his own right and a brilliant parodist. Most if not all of the Beatles got the joke(it took Paul the longest).
Nobody can imitate Neil.
Robin, i don't think that is possible !
Never fully appreciated, eh? Forgive our shortsightedness, old sod, and thanks for everything! RIP, 12/30/2019
Kevin M. Williams absolutely... so overlooked with so much talent. Thanks for everything, Mr Innes. RIP
I wasn't smart enough to understand this genius until he was gone!
good job guy
He knew the big secret , we don't really exist in this physical form .
Is this available for download anywhere? Couldn't find it on Amazon ...
iTunes. on the live and raw album
Bloody brill
It's a poppycocked-eyed world, for sure - but I make believe in you, and you make believe in me.
I miss Mr. Innes.
Tea. Lots of tea. And biscuits. ❤
Thank you ❤️
I was just thinking that he channels the same muse that fired the fab four. Was it years of parody or drinking from the same wellspring? Fantastic presentation. Thank you.
Thank you Neil Inns you wonderful HOOMAN BEAN.
This song should have been first on the track list of Lennono first album.
He really should do a reunited tour with digital simulations of his dead bandmates. That would be super-neat.
Rode a bicycle into his pond. Debenham. 1984-ish B)
Did you meet the huge goldfish in there? That house in Debenham was amazing.
Funny and great!! No lie!
rest in peace sweet idiot. this is an imitation quote.
Es una clara parodia o tributo de "Imagine" de John Lennon.
"I guess it takes all kinds..."
Can the 6 unlike voters explain?
Russian hatebots don't explain
❤️
Where can we go buy this song? Not on iTunes. Not on Spotify.

Just download it from youtube
any one else notice the 'Om'?
Did he ever get to buy his panzer tank.
didn't he want a squadron of them?
He sounds like Julian Lennon
Writer of many so called Lennon and McCartney songs
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
where is Chastity?
She’s lecturing about her father to a group that really respect her father.
"Spotty-faced wet weekend as far as he can see"!
😂❤🙏
You love the Beatles! We are not. Them..
:)
Kinda sounds like Procol Harum, lol.
In addition to all the meta~meta-metA-meta, this song has accrued aditional *gravitas* since the Usa's sad Drumph era and the BS around the 2020 election. "sad..."
Almost sounds like it could be an ELO song.
Or John Lennon.
I hear Imagine, Love and probably some others.
@@hansvandermeulen5515 The music video shots remind me of Lennon’s
‘Mind Games’ music video
If you don't think this is a really special piece of music history
...seek medical attention, you're not a standard person.
It was a good joke in the 70s but it's very old, tired and of lesser quality now.
Well, that's John Lennon all over...
:)
