The movie was based on the 1979 novel The Better Angels by CharlesMcCarry, which was more serious and without this scene. The 1984 Best Defense with Dudley Moore and Eddie Murphy had the U.S. fight a war in Kuwait against Iraq called Operation Sandstorm.
I just watched this movie because I'm a fan of Jennifer Jason Leigh. she's only in it for a minute near the beginning but like a lot of the films she's in it turned out to be surprisingly INTERESTING, Director Richard Brooks also directed "Blackboard Jungle" (1955) which starred JJL's dad Vic Morrow…maybe she got a little part because of this connection Anyway I didn't expect this to be a good movie but it really was odd and strangely prophetic. Thanks JJL!! I was looking for you but found a really good movie!!!
that film is titled right is wrong. it came out in 1981. it got very bad reviews and was a box office failure... the critics were very hostile to it, as if it was the worst film ever made. it played a couple of weeks in a few markets and then vanished. it was shown on tv a few times and only got released on dvd years later.... there are 2 other films that came out around that time worth watching again- Rollover and Winter Kills. those were also box office failures.

They also noted that the molten steel witnessed by hundreds of people was irrelevant in the investigation and therefore wasn't considered a reason in why/how the buildings were brought down.
