if Muhammad alayhi salatu wa sallam forbade killing female combatants in battlefield what makes you think he would allow killing children? sahabi killed female combatant in self defense when female combatant swing at him with sword. when Muhammad alayhi salatu wa sallam heard of it he confronted him asked him did you kill her? he said and he alayhi salatu wa sallam got angry and asked 2-3 times same question. when affirmed Muhammad alayhi salatu wa sallam forbade it and said that you suppose to take her as war prisoner. the hadith you bring has a context when you engage in battle at night if you kill children not intentionally then there is no sin on you thats all what it means. and dont compare Quran nor authentic Sunnah with your gossips. first of all we believe Quran is direct words/ speech of Allah if you doing internal critique then you have to work in our paradigm thats how internal criticism works. if you doing external critique then first you have established why your position is truth to say our position is false thats how external criticism works. best you can do compare like for like your gossips are supposedly what Isa alayhi salatu wa sallam said and did, basically about him, his biography. and authentic Sunnah is same only difference is you dont have science to check who said what and how to authenticate your gossips. secondly our daif/weak hadithes/ reports are more reliable than your gossips. and we reject those daif hadithes. the reason they are more reliable because there is chain and biography of people on the chain until it was compiled in hadith collections as books. even daif hadith have chain of transmission maybe not connected or some one on the chain is not reliable or have some defects. in other hand your gossips dont have any chain of transmission prior to canonization nor we know any men in that transmission nor we know their biography nor we know how to check if they were reliable nor we know their moral character. its no more than a gossips. now let me ask you why do you believe it’s reliable source of information? because there is no way you cant authenticate it. to do textual criticism you have to do higher criticism then you can do internal criticism and external criticism. then come to conclusion is there sufficient evidence which justifies your beliefs. la adri wa Allahu alam
