I can’t tell how relieved I am that you saw my comment about exploding Pyrex pans. I was VERY worried about y’all. I literally stayed up at night thinking about emailing or calling the mill. The Terkel is stunning!!!💗💗💗
Yeah - another wonderful millcast! Oops, as Amanda talked about her W&T - I think I did them the same way and pulled yarn to front before moving stitch - but let’s just call it a design choice.❤
The Instapot brand sells thick trivets for cooking eggs… maybe try searching for that? They are round… Love the colors/variety of the Shetland!! Beautiful 🤩 ❤
Congratulations on FORTY!!!! So happy for all the progress on the beautiful shawls and shop machinery, etc. Amanda....your wrap and turns are just a design element that is a variation. (NOT wrong)😀Love these mill casts and all of the work you two do to bring us a look into your world - it is just so enjoyable. Thank you so much!!!🧶
I can relate to your wrap and turns - I thought I was doing the simple wrap and turn but all I was doing was the turning 🤣- I know Stephen West does this on his garter stitch shawls and it works out fine - there are some holes, but with your nice squishy yarn you can barely see them!
With one skein of making tracks I knit a Tørkle variation B and a Pannebånd (mini-Tørkle/headband pattern from Ona Woldten) for my four-year-old. She's planning on styling the Pannebånd on various stuffed animals.
I slept in a hostel in downtown Victoria, on Vancouver Island, British Colombia 🇨🇦 when I was 59 and hauling RV's from Indiana to Alberta and had to do my 36 hour layover. You are never too old to Hostel it!
Oh, boy, the pressure is on me to complete my Torkle!!! I am Natalie, Amanda's mother-in-law. Wish Amanda was right next door when I get stuck on something and need help. Minnesota is a bit too far to "pop over" to her house. FaceTime is nice but having a "body" next to you is better. So, yes, I found a knitting group at a yarn store and is very helpful for guidance. We all sit around a table and knit. I've already apologized to them if I don't enter in on much conversation as I am concentrating and counting!!!! But when I started knitting about a year ago, Amanda said to search out a knitting group, so I would advise that to any of you, too. I told Amanda it'll probably take me till October to finish, but I'm giving it a try! Always love to listen to Peggy and Amanda's Millcasts!
I took my 91 y.o. mom to stay in a hostel near Grand Tetons- the only affordable option and really nicer than expected. Mom has always been an adventurous person.
Thanks for the smiles this morning. As usual, your commentary was entertaining and fun! I really enjoyed variation B because of its wearability. Looks great on Amanda and I’m thinking it’ll be perfect under a denim jacket this fall. I had an aha moment with the wrap and turn short rows. Why aren’t they ever described (shorthand) as “working yarn on the wrong side, slip, right side, slip back, wrong side, turn”? I asked on Instagram, and sure enough, a friend shared a blog entry that Bristol Ivy wrote for Modern Daily Knitting that included this very question. Anyways…an aside…but interesting and part of what makes KALs so fun. I used 28 grams of Savage Heart for my contrast color and 68 grams of Making Tracks for my main color. So for anyone wanting to make multiples (hello awesome gifts!) you could possibly squeak out three variation B from one skein of CC and two skeins of MC with a little flexibility or on a smaller needle! Best wishes for your upcoming travels, and while I think you’d be popular and fun hostel guests in Italy, I hope you find accommodations that allow you to rest comfortably and enjoy.
regarding needing a specific size and shape / design of silicone mat for your dye pots, all you would need is for someone to design and 3d print a mold and you could find your own silicone mix to pour into the mold and make your own mats for your dye pots. having the mold on your own would mean you could make as many of them as you'd like as long as you had the silicone resources. maybe not as simple as i'm thinking it could be, i can imagine maybe finding the right kind of silicone to put in may be hard? but i don't know much about that side of it. but i know for sure you could make your own mold or get one 3d printed. food for thought!
Your trip to Italy sounds fantastic! Peg, what kind of knitting machine are you looking for? Is it some big piece of equipment that goes in the mill, or a smaller home sized machine. If it’s the second, I have a bulky knitting machine that would love a new home.
You guys are great! Your enthusiasm for all things fiber is the best. After every episode I’m excited for all the knitting 🧶 thanks so much for that! ❤
Ha ha, of course you’ll eat pizza and pasta in Biella but it is not what they are famous for… more rice than pasta up north! Keep up the duo lingo and please l please do not go to the hostel!
Lovely to see the progress on your shawls. 🇬🇧
Best podcast on the net. I hope to get up there someday to visit with ya’s, the sheep, the farm, Maeve, the mill. Lol everyone

Yup I am thinking about a Torkle

I love how all the torkles are coming out. I’m trying to finish up another project so that I can start mine. 🧶 🏃♀️

LOVE IT!
Your shawl is gorgeous. You could needle felt those floats instead of sewing. Love your podcast.
Great idea!
Great Millcast as always. So many Torkle’s. Glad to see yours Liz. I wasn’t going to join the kal but…the colors, the pattern.

You got this, Natalie! Can't wait to see your Torkle! Peg

Peggy is hearing you loud and clear!
🎉🎉 Congrats on 40! Watching while working on my Tørkle. Happy the induction heat is improving.

Can you email me at the with some details? Any chance it has a ribber?
maybe a steam jacketed kettle might solve your dying problems?
