Well I'm American, and moved to Australia. Then I moved back. I gotta say, Australia is only good for vacation. It's expensive as hell to live as an immigrant there. My dad was on a visa the whole 6 years we were there, none of his jobs kept their word to support residency for him. The new 2014 laws for immigrants are stupid as hell.

Why do people think she puts on a fake accent when she raps? Have you heard Adele? Adele is from the UK and she sounds like she is from America when she sings, but when she talks she sounds TOTALLY different. Same can be said for Lorde, except she is from New Zealand. Iggy has an accent and apparently doesn't show up when she raps

I'm born and bred in Australia. For those of you talking about her accent, it's still there but it's also been influenced by her time in the US. Unfortunately Australian Accents can be "overruled" quite easily as we tend to see with our actors who live overseas for long periods of time. As well as that, the area in which she is from is rural and you can hear elements of that in her accent.

I'm Australian and I wouldn't actually pronounce it sounding with an R at the end...AzaleA. I think she is trying to over-pronounce her (fake) accent and it's come out that way. Though, she has been in the states for a long time so her speech seems to be pretty messed up lol

I don't know why there are so many haters!Iggy Azalea is very talented, thoughtful, humble and she deserves to be famous, she worked very hard to get where she is! Her accent is Australian..but she slightly curls the Rs..but the pronunciation is definitely Australian(You can hear it from the songs and from the interviews)...I don't understand why you do care about the accent though,it's sexy! For example I was born and bred in Italy and I moved to London...and I got an American/Austrlian accent I've been told even though I've never lived in neither of them,so...stop hating her...she's a girl who showed guts following her dream, thing that you should try to do instead of being here to criticize her life, accent etc..get a life and follow your dreams!Stop hating her

the reason why some singers and most professional singers lose their accent when they sing or rap is because music is a different part of the brain than the speech part. thats also why people who stutter don't stutter when they sing.

I don't know what y'all are talking about. Let me break down a few things:
Her accent is actually very americanised. It's not like a normal Aussie accent. She's too American.
No rapper talks the way they rap. Nicki & Eminem don't talk the way they rap. All rappers rap with an exaggerated accent. Iggy raps in an exaggerated tone as well, which is an exaggerated version of her Americanised Aussie accent.
You can hear many aussie tones in her raps & it's clear she writes her own stuff 'cause she literally raps about her life & no one can write emotionally expressing all the things you've been through.
She writes under her birthname Amethyst Amelia Kelly. (She uses Iggy Azalea as a stage name because she wanted to start a new life when she moved from Australia).
She moved because things felt so hopeless where she lived & she felt depressed & isolated as she lived in a small village where not many people understood her or related to the things she liked.
She moved to America 'cause she needed a change in environment & also 'cause she knew there would be people who understood her.
Also, when she was younger, the street she grew up on would have lots of kids & they would all hang out together, and these two brothers (called Noah & Karim) played her a song by Tupac, so ever since she was in her early/pre-teens, she was obsessed with Hip Hop & read every magazine and ordered them from the local shop & memorised lyrics and deciphered them & basically spent her life since emersing herself in Hip Hop culture. She grew up in it. Hip Hop is universal now. Y'all need to stop being arrogant about it. People from all over the world are growing up listening to Hip Hop & bring a part of the culture through osmosis.
All the alleged racist tweets she posted are not real, they have been photoshopped & a lot are actually over the character limit for Twitter. You can't find them on Topsy & genuine Twitter data has proved they never existed.
The slave master verse was very old & Iggy said she did it for shock value when she was younger & the black producers in the company "D.R.U.G.S" told her it would be cool, but she apologised soon afterwards in 2011 & said that you should always follow your gut instinct & never rely on friends for decisions like that. She knows now how serious people took that & deeply apologised for it STRAIGHT AWAY.
In Iggy's videos she has never depicted black people as bad guys (like in the trouble music video).
Iggy was never in an upper class family. They grew up in a mud brick house that her father built by hand & she grew up cleaning houses with her mother to pay for their living. Her father was an artist. She had to drop out of high school & took over her mom's cleaning business. She saved money for a long time to get a ticket to America on a plane & had jobs since she was very young (cash underhand small jobs at local stores, like CD shops, etc).
Iggy's apartment was destroyed when she was in America during Hurricane Ike & she had to set up her whole life again & move city.
Her rap skills developed in the South & she has lived in America since she was 16.
Also in her family, they are all pear-shaped (have big butts, but small chests) so when she used to model in America for help to pay rent, the companies used to tell her to lose weight (even though she was skinny, her hips were very large) so she started losing weight. Now she has her weight back, but that's the only reason that there are pictures of her with less of a butt. She's really insecure about her weight though, so why on Earth would people assume she has butt shots. So basically it's due to the modelling she had to go through that.
Please search on UA-cam "Iggy Azalea HardknockTV" for the four interview videos they did with her. It really explains a lot.
Also read her lyrics from Work & Walk The Line & Don't Need Y'all & Runaway.
Just please be more understanding before you stereotype.
    Thanks.

Time to speak up. All of you worldwide haters and self haters, need to take a look in the mirror and just stare at yourself see if you can spend any time alone with YOU.
    1. Many singers change their accent when singing. I've seen many Asian, Latin, European singers use an American accent because that sounds hot and fresh.
    2. Stop being racist. You are.
    3. Music, sports and entertainment has done more to bridge social groups and classes than anything else. I used to feel out of place with white Italians who were clearly bigots. Now! We have young people who like the same type of music and y'know hangout.
    4. If I have to sound "white" or professional at my workplace then why can't someone sound black or Latin or whatever they want. Get a productive life.
    Rock on Iggy.

she's fascinating. I'm not a fan and I think she stole black culture. but it is amazing to see how she rose to such musical power. she's controversial as anything. some people think she's an awesome rapper and that she deserves her success. some people think she's complete shit and can't believe she went #1. some people think she's a sweet heart. some people think she's a massive bitch. some people think she's exotic looking and sexy. some people think she's extremely ugly and looks like miranda sings I like how there's such a divide between opinions on someone while most singers are boring and nobody has strong opinions about them.

Goddess Ally Brooke Iggy didn't steal a thing. Rap is everywhere. If you travelled outside your own country you might know that .Check out the HillTop Hoods. I don't think most Americans realize how far flung the rap culture really has gone since the early days and people need to get over it. And for your information the computer you are typing on right now was invented by Charles Babbage the British mathematician so pull your ignorant head out of your ass and stop talking such utter crap.

    • @MikesGamingNtw
      @MikesGamingNtw 10 років тому

Well if we are talking about RAPPING. Everyone has their countries accent when RAPPING unless that person if faking the accent.
Rapping and singing are 2 completely different things. Yes you sound different when you sing because you have notes and keeping pitches etc. While rapping is talking to a beat (like poetry). So of course you would keep your accent if you are rapping.
This bitch is just as fake as all the other mainstream "pop stars" in America.

Are people seriously resorting to insulting her accent? I pick up accents really easily so the way I talk is a mash up of quite a few regional accents, does that make me a shitty person? I don't think so.

Here's the thing: rappers are entertainers. They preform, and entertain. Its a gimmick, like wrestling, "iggy" simply just copied what she see's other entertainers do (be a "bad bitch", talk with an "american" accent, be the tough girl; etc), And made her own gimmick. Practically every rapper does this (unless you belive every rapper is from the hood, and slings guns daily). Is she "fake"? In hindsight perhaps, but then that would make 90% of rappers today fake.........which isn't exactly a false statement

i think shes still an inspiration for those who never identified with their actual `home` .. taking the risk to leave and following the path no matter how hard it is and how long it takes ... you see, she worked 8 years to get the deal ... most people just say .. ok i want to settle as soon as possible and be able to afford a rather nice car, so ill do an apprenticeship somewhere ... like my friends who could afford a car and all sorts of stuff when they where 18 .. now 3 years later i still cant afford anything but i am working hard for the person that i want to become .. and one day i will be payed off big while my friends do the same thing that they did since they were 17 or so

Can we just take a moment to actually listen to her story here. Can you imagine being her at 16 just lying there in your bed terrified of what your about to do? Wow. I can't imagine going somewhere else in the world all by myself at such a young age to chase after my dream. What she said about when she landed and it had just rained and there were fireworks in the sky, that must have been an immense comfort for her, it definitely was meant to be. It sucks so hard that she fell off from letting the fame get to her, she used to be amazing before 2014.
