Latest on Casement Park is that a decision on funding will need to be taken by the UK government very soon after the general election on 4 July. They'll need to commit at least £150 million and pretty much provide a blank cheque for over-runs. The stadium would need to be open in a little over three years and that's tight, so extra money is probably required because of the delay. A lot of observers don't think it will happen and the three Euro 2028 games will go elsewhere. If that happens, the GAA will likely rebuild it much cheaper, with standing terraces and less facilities, at lower cost. It would be the sensible option.
Let us not forget the opposition to this by the dyed-in-the-wool unionists who resent rebuilding anything to do with the GAA. It's being extremely petty yet still
Sensible to miss the euros games? It has been a projection that 200 million will be injected into Belfast (and surrounding areas) during the Euros. Then an annual income through concerts, sporting events, and even boxing. It seems silly that initial costs will stop Belfast holding such a prestige event. Especially now that Croke Park now looks like taking the games that were supposed to be played in Belfast. Dublin once again benefits from Northern Ireland failures.
Rialtas na hÈireann (Government of Ireland) has pledged 40M GBP towards the stadium, the GAA has set aside 15M GBP while Stormont Executive has committed 62.5M GBP towards it so if the estimated cost was 300M GBP then Westminster would need to secure 182.5M GBP towards the venue cost.
@@heliumtrophy That's not really the issue. All of the original delays to the rebuild of Casement Park were caused by objections and legal cases brought by the local community, who are nationalist.
Got a little tear in my eye when I saw the Ice Rink with our Panthers in South Florida one win away from winning the Stanley cup... Yet another great video my friend.. Greetings to all from HOT and Humid Miami!!!
I'll tell you one thing about The Oval. I actually chose to go on the uncovered terracing rather than in the stand. The reason is because it is a relic of the past, an original stadium where you can watch football as our grandfathers would have (even for the home fans switching ends at half time!). Yes, it may not pass Premier League health and safety checks (and some of the crush barriers are broken), but it is a fantastic experience and worth doing while you still can.
This is mental! I drove past Ravenhill yesterday and was wondering whether there would be enough in Belfast for you to make a video then this pops up!! 😮
As far as I can remember, Soccer/Football is the only sport not operated and represented on an all-island Ireland basis. Cricket, Rugby, Boxing, GAA, Racing, Rowing, Olympic Games pretty much all sports apart from Soccer/Football 😅
The recent history of stadiums in Belfast is interesting and typically complex. After the Good Friday Agreement brought peace (of sorts) in 1998 there was talk for a long time of building a combined national stadium for all the sports at the site of the Maze prison, where during the Troubles convicted and suspected paramilitaries were imprisoned and interned. Plans were drawn up and work progressed for years, but the unionist community opposed it because it's more associated with the republican cause. Eventually, a deal was reached: there would be money for rebuilds of Windsor Park for football (which is almost exclusively a unionist stadium for Linfield and the "national" team"), Ravenhill for rugby union (which is mostly unionist but more mixed and welcoming) and Casement Park for Gaelic sports (which are almost exclusively republican). For Casement Park, the owners (GAA), the UK government and the Irish government agreed how much each would pay. Work on the first two stadiums went to plan, but a botched planning process and opposition from local residents (also republican) led to work at Casement Park not getting underway. Then the Northern Ireland Assembly collapsed and NI had no government for many years. Costs obviously spiralled and the agreed amounts each was to kick in would no longer get it done. Only the Euro 2008 bid and the resumption of the NI Assembly after fresh election has revived the project. It looked like the UK government would foot the bill but they kicked it down the line, and now we're all waiting to see what the general election will bring. Labour haven't said what they'll do.
i didn't realise this when i watched this first but actually what you said about rugby supporters being to big for the seats has something to it.Pairc Ui Chaoimh which is a GAA stadium in cork city has about half its capacity terraces, rugby is played there occasionally and when its there the capacity goes down by about a thousand because rugby supporters are supposed to be bigger on average than GAA supporters which in cork is mostly Hurling supporters
Windsor can't be used due to low capacity, so if Casement isn't built, the games will likely moved to either Croke Park or another English stadium. Unionists know this but they'd rather shoot themselves in the foot than have NI play in a GAA stadium.
@@Stevenbfg Yes 100%,but its more than being a GAA stadium its the name of the stadium. Its not conjecture either there has been atleast one poll to back that assertion up
@@Joseph13163 Being a GAA stadium is enough. Lets not pretend otherwise. Roger Casement died in 1916 and is hardly the most controversial of Republicans.
Why is it strange to have a Jesus sign? Northern Ireland and this club prides itself on believing in and promoting Jesus. The sign is iconic and to be protected
Its the wrong way to think of it,the division is more in Northern Ireland than the two parts of the Island. There can only be tension between two regions if both are on the pitch at one time, not with one side fighting it out in the dressing room and thats northern ireland.
There are a lot of stadium channels out there however this is the only one I watch.
Thanks!
Thanks for watching.
@@TheWideWorldofStadiums The biggest stadium in Northern Ireland is Pairc esler in Newry 20 000 capacity

For once (outside of Canada, Finland, or Russia, anyway), the hockey arena is better than the football or rugby stadiums.

I know some people who broke into the stadium and painted an exclamation mark at the end of the word "jesus".
