- loch long in Scotland like many lochs in the area have strong navy ties
from the first world war till 1986 the navy tested out their torpedo's and secret new weapons with around 50 torpedoes a day getting fired and tested the site is just a derelict now,

Fantastic again. I seem to recall (probably about 50 years ago...) reading in the Sunday Post probably about a dummy torpedo soaring up the loch and grounding itself on the Arrochar shoreline! Oops! 🙂
Thanks, Terry, and you're not wrong. A few came shooting out the water, lol. I remember at a young age it was warned not to eat shellfish from the area as you could be poisoned. I still avoid shellfish from the area

Just for those that don't know, the village in the background is Arrochar, a short hop from Tarbet on the shores of Loch Lomond. The testing station really has gone downhill in the last 10-15 years, and is completely unsafe to visit, so drone footage is an excellent way to see history. Loch Long, and this spot, is also a very popular (if a bit dangerous) scuba diving spot.
It's certainly went downhill was always an amazement as a kid seeing it as we passed by almost 50 years ago
@@jimthorleydronefootage Yeah, I was same, have lived and worked down Campbeltown and on Islay so it was passed often. So many didn't know what it was.
